Serial N'o. 307,295.
s An important object of theinvention is to provide in apparatus of this character an arrangement such that the chamber Within the well from which the fluid is withdrawn is positively filled, this chamber being evacu+ ated periodically during operation ofthe pump. V I 3 A further object of the invention isto provide a construction such that the same pumping apparatus will serve both as a meansfor evacuating the container and for supplying air pressure to eject the contents thereof and the flow caused by the discharge is employed to regulate the reversal of operations. I
A further and more specific object of the invention is the provision in apparatus of this character of an arrangement such that a positive regulation may be had to insure a proper correspondence between intake and discharge functions of the casing.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a novel oscillating motor to be used in connection with such pumping apparatus. A still further object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of this character which may be very'readily and cheaply installed, which will be durable and eflicient in service, and a general improvement in theart. These and other objects I attain by the construction shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation showing well pumping apparatus constructed in accord- Figure 4 is a section on the line 4.4 of Figure 2. I I
Referring nowmore particularly to the drawings, the numeral generally designates a well casing, the lower end of which extends into fluid bearing strata 11 and is providedwith the usual screen 12. Within the casing, I dispose a pumping chamber 13 which is in communication with the interior of the screen 12 through a check-valved inlet 14:. Into the upper end of this chamber extend a discharge'pipe 15, which projects to a point adjacent the bottom of the casing and is equipped with a check-valved inlet16,anda control or operating pipe17, which terminates adjacentthe top of the casing and has its end portion reverted, as at 18, so that it is directed toward the top of the casingwall.
In combination with this structure,I provide an airjpum'p '19, the intake "of which is connected through a conduit with one port of a three-way valve 21. A second port of this valve is connected with the exhaust of the air pump by a conduit 22 preferably having arranged therein an accumulator 23. The third port of this valve is connected to the control conduit 17, which is preferably considerably reduced in size.
The numeral 24 generally designates a storage tank for the reception of the discharge from the pumping apparatus, and, preferably supported by this tank, I provide a framework including spaced rectangular frames 25 connected at one end by a pivot shaft 26. Mounted upon this shaft is one end of a lever structure 27, the opposite end of which supports a receptacle 28 having substantially the same capacity as the chamber 13. This receptacle has at its bottom a discharge outlet 29 having an automatic control valve 30 and a manual control valve 31. The automatic control valve 30 has directlyconnected thereto a trip rod 32 having a stop pin 33 coacting with a guide 34 through which the rod passes so that when the receptacle 28 is lowered to a predetermined extent, the automatic" valve is lifted from its seat to permit the contentsof the'receptacle to discharge into thetank'2t by aspeed regulated by the manually controllable valve 31'. Secured to 7 Assuming the chamber-13 to be filled wlth is provided with a counterweight 41 of sufli-w,
cient size to elevate the lever structure and receptacle when the receptacle is emptied.
Theoperation of the apparatus is as folliquid and the receptacle 28 to be empty and in an elevated position, the valve 21 is positioned to connect the discharge of the pump with the chamber, with the result that pres- .sure is generated in the chamber, causing a discharge of the contents through thedischarge line 15 to the receptacle. As the re ceptacle fills, the weight of the counterweight '41 is overcome and the receptacle lowers,
with the result that the position of the, threeway valve is reversed, so that a vacuum is formed in the chamber and the valve 30 of the receptacleis opened to permit discharge of the receptacle into the tank'24. Thus, the
chamber 13 is filling as the receptacle is being emptied and by the various adjustments, these operations, can be synchronized, so that when the receptacle is emptied to a point permittingv its return to an elevated position by the counterweight, the chamber 13 will be again filled, permitting the cycle of operations to continue.
In order to facilitate manipulation of the apparatus, the intake linei20 has arranged .therein a cut-off valve 42 and between this cut-off valve and the pump,'a valved connection 43 is provided for placing the pump in communication with the atmosphere. Beyond this valve, a second connection 44 is provided for breaking the vacuum of the operating line. Similarly, a cut-off valve 45is provided in the discharge line of the pump, preferably beyond the accumulator.
V A counter 46 is preferably supported by the framework 25 and operated by the lever structure 27, so that the number of r'eciprocati'ons of the receptacle can be accurately noted and the dischargefrom the well thus computed.
Since the construction" hereinbefore set forth is capable of a certain range of change comprising a discharge outlet connected to said receptacle, a valve in said outlet, a valve stemsecured to said valve, said stem having slidable engagement with said frame, and a 7 stop on said stem engageable with said frame whereby to open the valve when the receptacle has reached a predetermined point in line of its movement inthe frame, a fluid line discharging into said receptacle-and operating means forsaid discharging means.
2. In combination, a reservoir, a fluid line, a supporting frame mounted on said reservoir, a lever pivotally secured at one end to said reservoir, fluid receiving means carried by said lever at the opposite end thereof,
discharge means for said fluid. receiving means, said discharging means comprising a discharge outlet connectedto said receptacle, a valve in said outlet, a valve stem secured to said valve, said stem having slidableengagement with said frame, and a stop'on said stem engageablewith said frame whereby to open the valve'when the receptacle has reached .a
mined point, and control means connected to said fluid receivingmeans whereby to transmit the power from said receptacle to an op erated member. V i V 3. In combination, a fluid discharging line, a reservoir, a frame upstanding from said'reservoir, a receptacle swingingly carried by said frame, balancing means fulcrumed on said frame and connected to said lever, adjustable discharge means slidably engaging said frame, and'connecting means engaging said receptacle" whereby to actuate an oper ated member coactively with said receptacle.
4. In combination, a fluid discharge line, a fluidreservoir, frame upstanding from'said reservoir, a lever pivotally secured at one end to. said: frame and adapted for swinging movement within] said frame, adjustable balance means carried by said frame and'engaging said lever, stop means mounted on said frame whereby to limit the, movement of sai'd'ba-lance means, a fluid receptacle carried by said' lever, adjustable discharge means for said receptacle, and 'connecting means mounted on said receptacle and engaging an operated member to operate said member coactively with the movement of said receptacle. y
5. In combination, a fluid discharging line, a fluid reservoir arranged beneath said discharge line, a supportingframe upstanding from said'reservoir, a receptacle swingingly mounted in said frame, adjustable balance means mounted on said frame and engaging said receptacle, a plurality ofv stop members carried by said frame whereby to limit the upward and downward movement of saidbal predetermined point in line of its movement] signature.
ance means,adjustab1e discharge means for said receptacle, said adjust-able discharge means slidably engaging said frame, and adjustable connecting means carried by said receptacle and engaging an operated member whereby to actuated said operated member uponmovement of said receptacle,
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflixmy SAMUEL M. PANKEYQ
