' Still another andfurther important object of this invention is the provision, in a fold ing bed or the like, of means for a double folding of the bed and its contained springs,

' mattresses and the like with a minimum expenditure of time, trouble, and inconvem ience.

Another and still further importantobject of thisinvention is to provide, in a combination piece of furniture for a living room or the like, a bookcase and a bed which is economical of manufacture, simple of construction, and therefore readily operated.

Other and further important objects of the invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the accompanying drawings and following specification.

Theinvention, ina preferred form, is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.

a A foldable 'spring, as shown at 46, is adapted to be used with this modification of'the bed, this spring being formed in two portions connectedadjacent the center of the bed by means of a series of coiled springs a8,

whereby the same can be readily folded in conjunction with the bed rails 22.

For box springs a slightly different construction is provided as shown in Figure 3, the box spring itself as at 50 being hinged or jointed in the middle as shown at 52, adapted for a folding over uponitself as illustrated in the dotted lines in this figure. When this folding has beenaccomplished-the rails 54 and 56 of the bed are telescoped into each other by simply sliding the "forward rails 56 rearwardly, a pin 58 being provided to pre-v vent any undue forward motion of the rails V 56. The legs 60 are; then foldedunderthe bed rails in the same manner as described in connection with Figure 2, anda suitable lock member inthe form of anadjustabl-e pivoted hook or the like.62 is provided at the rear of the M11354 in order that the mattress may be properly maintained in folded relation. An adjustable strap 64! is also provided for the maintenance of the pillowsjblankets, etc., when the bed is to be folded.

It will be seen that herein is provided a folding bed or the like which constitutesv an ornamental and useful adjunctto anyliving room in additionto comprising an-economical and useful pieceof furniture. The opera-- tion is extremelysimple, andthere is no danger of accidental folding while the-bed is occupied. The device as shown comprises a suitable double bed,'but obviously may be inade in other sizes, as desired. V
