The present invention pertains to improvements in adjustable motor bases wherein the base is provided upon which a motor is secured with means associated therewith whereby the base carrying the motor may be moved upon the foundation supporting the same. The present base construction is especially adapted for heavy duty motors, and includes threadable means for moving the 19 base and shifting the motor for the purpose of tightening the belt or similar driving means in connection therewith.
An important object of this invention resides in the provision of novel guide means whereby the base may be shiftedin strict parallel respect to the driven belt.
Another object is to provide means whereby the motor may be adjusted minutely and independently of the base adjusting means.
Other novel objects and advantages of this novel invention will become apparent as it is understood from the following specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawings wherein like numerals indicate corresponding parts:
Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the base and the foundation upon which the base is slidable.
Figure 2 represents a longitudinal sectional View of the slidable base, and
Figure 3 represents a transverse sectional View disclosing the manner in which the base may be secured to the foundation.
Now for a more detailed description of this invention, reference is made to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts.
For the purpose of supporting the adjustable base and motor, a suitable foundation A is provided and which may be of concrete or any suitable composite material. A pair of elongated and spaced plates 11' are secured to the foundation by suitable threaded memhere 2 projecting upwardly from the base and through openings in said plates. It is preferable, that a pair of these threaded members project upwardly through each of the plates 1-1, but if found necessary, a greater number may be employed.

provided with laterally disposed and longitudinally extending flanges 4 at the longitudinal opposed edges of its one side. 7 Each end'of the motor base is provided with a fork 5 through which an elongated set screw 6 is threadable.
The flanges H are each formed with longitudinally alined and spaced slots 7 through which the threaded members 2 project upwardly. Suitable nuts 8 are threadable on said threaded elements for tightly securing the flanges H to the plates'1-1.
The slot 9 is formed at each corner of the top side of the motor base 3, and these slots are arranged in longitudinal disposition in respect to the base. An. elongated opening 10 isformed longitudinally through the intermediate portion of the top side of the base,
while-a flange 11 depends within the base from the opposed longitudinal edges ofsaid opening. f
- A-substantially square block 12 formed with a threaded opening, is provided with a shank portion 13 embeddedat its lower portion within the concrete foundation A.
- An elongated threaded rod 14- is adapted to be threaded through the block 12 in the V manner disclosed in Figure 2. One eudportion 15 of the rod is smooth, and-is adapted l for journaled relation within an opening in the end wall of the base3, while the oppof. site end portion of the threaded rod projects beyond the opposite end wall of the base, while a collar 16 carried on the threaded rod at opposite sides of the end wall prevents any longitudinal movement of the rod in respect to the base. The projecting end portion of the rod is of polygonal shape, being thus adapted for engagement by a suitable socket wrench provided for the purpose of rotating said threaded rod. 7
Obviously, as the threaded rod 14 is rotated, the motor base 3 is moved, and will take up any slack existing in the driving belt associated with the motor.
It is contemplated that the motor will be secured to the base by the use of screws projecting through the slots 9. By loosening these screw members,.and actuating the set screws 6, minute adjustment may be made Without invoking the main adjusting means However, When relatively large adjustments are to be made, the nuts 8 are loosened on the threaded elements 2, and by rotating the threaded rod 14, the box-like base Will be I caused to slide on the parallel plates 11.
It will thusbe seen that a very novel and eflieient :means-has been provided in this instance, whereby heavy duty motors may be quickly and efficiently shifted upon their bases for their propenad iustmentrof theieonnections between the motor. supported thereon and devices driven thereby.
