My invention relates to the general class of mixing machines, and particularly to machines especially adapted for mixing concrete, in terms of which art I shall, for example, herein describe it.
One object of my invention is to feed the constituents of the concrete intothe mixer member with a desirable evenness and spread, conducive to an intimate mix.
Another object is to. discharge "the completed mix by a mere reversal of the rot-ative direction and deriving "simfiltaneous rotation from the mixing member, said conveyer being adapted, according to the direction of its rotation, to s electively direct the infeeding constituents into the mixing member, pr to direct the mix through the discharge opening to the exterior and a gate to control the discharge opening andthe mix delivered therethrough? In the accompanying drawings I have shown my machine in its preferred form, though it is to be understoodthat changes may be made therein in structure, arrange ment and combination without de arting from the spirit of my invention as de ned by the claims hereunto appended.

The drum in the present case, at one end is a frustum 3, having an open extremity. 4 is a stationary feed hopper carried by the braces 5 from the frame 2. The throat of the hopper is approximately cylindrical with two openings, one in its bottom communicating with the exterior, and another in its side registering withthe open extremity of the frustum 3 of the mixing" drum. The throat is formed by a closed front wall 6, Fig. 1, arcuate side walls 7, Fig. 2, and the open lower end of the rear wall 8. About the opening in the side of the hopper throat i's afiange 9 of angle section. Secured to the open extremity of the drum frustum 3 is a journal fitting 10, of a section adapted to embrace,
and with the addition of a bolted ring 11, to confine the flange 9 of the hopper throat,
thereby forming a journal coupling between the rotating drum and the fixed hopper. 12
is a screw conveyer, lying and operating within the throat of the hopper. The rear end of the screw conveyer isfixed at 13 to the drum frustum and its front end is fixedto a bearing 14 pivotally'mounte d for rotation in the front wall 6 of the hopper throats Thus the screw conveyer rotates with the drum. 15 is a gate mounted in grooved slides 16 at the lower edges of the side walls 7 of. the hopper throat, said gatecontrolling the open bot tom of the throat. 17 is a lever connected by is operated.

When the mixing of the charge is "complete, the rotation of the drum 1 is reversed, whereby the mix passes outwardly into and through the frustum 3 and through \the registering communication of frustum with the throat,

The screw conveyer 12, rotating the reverse of its infeed operation, directs the mix to and through the bottom opening of the throat, the controlling gate of said opening havingbeen opened to permit the discharge of the mix into the chute 19. By properly regulating the gate 15 with respect to the extent of its opening, the discharge of the mix and'its control both in time and a side opening, the latter registering with the open end of the mixing drum; a rotatable screw conveyer within the throat adapted for selectively directing material through the] and a side opening, the latter registering and quantity is thus possible without having.

I claim i 1. A mixing machine comprising .a mixing member; a material-feeding member, having one opening in communicatlon with the mixingmemberaiidanother openingcommunicat ing with the exterior; a conveying member within the feeding member adapted to selectively direct the material through either opening; and means for controlling the opening to the exterior. 2. A mixing machine comprising a mixing drum; a feed hopper having one opening in communication with,the mixing drum and another opening communicating with the exterior; a rotatable screw conveyer within the hopper disposed, in accordance with its direction of rotation, to selectively direct ma= terial through either opening and a gate for controlling the opening to the exterior. v
3. A mixing machine comprising a rotatable mixing drum; a feed hopper having one opening in communication with the mixing drum and another opening communicating with the open end of the drum; a rotatable screw conveyer within the throat adapted for selectively diiecting material through either opening according to its direction of rotation, said conveyer being connected with and deriving its rotation from the mixing drum; i and a gate for controlling the bottom opening of the throat. A mixing machine comprisinga rotatable mixing drum one end of which is a frustum with open extremity; a stationary feed hopper'having athroat with a-bottom opening and a side opening, the latter regis tering with the open extremity of the frustum of the mixing drum; a journal connection between said registering parts; a rotatable screw conveyer within the throat adapfid for with the exterior; a screw conveyer connected .with and deriving rotation from the mixing drum, said conveyer being disposed within the hopper to selectively direct material through either opening according to its direction of rotation; and a gate for controlling the opening to the exterior.
