Description
T. G. HITT A ril 15, 1930.
METHOD FOR FASTENING PYROTECHNIC ELEMENTS OR FIRECRACKERS TOGETHER Filed April 3, 1929 I gwuemtoz Thamas 5. Hi2? Patented Apr. 15, 193% PATENT QFFICE THOMAS G. HITT, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON METHOD FOR FASTENING PYROTECHNIC ELEMENTS OR FIRECRACKERS TOGETHER Application filed April 3,
' This invention relates to improvements in packages and methods for detachably fastening a plurality of pyrotechnic display members or firecrackers together.
An object of this invention is to provide a means or method by which a plurality of firecrackers or other suitable elements may be detachably linked together, thereby providing a grouping of elements acceptable and convenient for marketing.
A further object of this invention is to provide a bundle or plurality of firecrackers detachably linked together by means of their fuses, in such a manner that each element or firecracker may be separated from the bundle without severing, cutting or breaking the fuses.
Other objects of this invention will appear from the following detailed description and 2 as disclosed in the single sheet of drawings which is herewith made a part of this application.
In the drawings- Figure 1 illustrates a perspective view of a bundle or plurality of firecrackers linked to gether, and disclosing one firecracker or element separated from the bundle.
Figure 2 illustrates a vertical sectional view of a plurality of firecrackers, and the means by which they are detachably connected together, one of the firecrackers being in section for disclosing the explosive substance and chambers therein.
Figure 3 represents the top plan view of Figure 2 disclosing the fuses interlinked to gether. 7
As one modification of this invention it is preferred that numeral 1 designate a plurality of firecrackers detachably linked. or connected together by means of fuses 2, which are made in loop formation, the free ends of the fuses 8 being adapted to extend a suitable distance within the firecracker 1 as clearly disclosed in Figure 2 of the drawings. wherein numeral 1 designates a seal through which the fuse 2 extends into the firecracker, the loose ends of the fuses 2 being preferably twisted as disclosed in Figure 2 in order to form a'more efficient anchoring within the firecracker 1, the inner ends 3 of the fuses 2 1929. Serial No. 352,237.
are adapted to contact with an explosive substance consisting of some suitable explosive such as white powder 5 and brown powder 6.
In order to detachably fasten the plurality of firecrackers or other elements 1 together it is preferred in this invention to assemble each firecracker as clearly disclosed in Figure 1, extending the loop to fuses 2 in series one through the other, in such a manner that the bundle or group of the firecrackers may be easily disassembled by removing the loops one from the other as disclosed in Figure 1, and at the same time making it possible where desired to ignite the fuse at one end of the assembled group, which would automatically function to ignite the fuses in each of the ex plosive elements thereby producing a pyrotechnic or explosive display of a plurality of firecrackers.
This invention provides very efiicient means or method for grouping a plurality of firecrackers or other suitable elements into a bundle, and in such a manner that each element may be separated from the bundle without the cutting or the damaging of any por tion of the connecting means, which in the preferred instance is the looped fuse of each explosive element.
A bundle of firecracker elements may be assembled according tothis invention of any desirable size and is extremely convenient for shipping for either wholesale or retail purposes.
The bundles of pyrotechnic display or firecrackers may be readily separated into their single units for exploding purposes or retained in any plurality of groupings for the purpose of plural explosions.
As actually assembled, the fuse of the firecracker to be attached is inserted through the adjacent firecracker-fuse loop. To do this it is necessary that the firecracker be turned until the fiat portion of the fuse loop will fit into the length of the fuse loop of the adjacent firecracker, after which the firecracker to be attached will be turned approximately forty-five degrees so that the length of the fuse loop will be in line with the adjacent loop, thus securely locking'the same to the adjacent firecracker. The usual procedure is to bend the fuse loops over and flatten the same before interlocking; but the bending over step may be done, With the exception of the first firecracker on the string, after the fuse loop has been inserted through the adj acenttuse loop. The step of adding subsequent firecrackers is repeated until the desired nmnber have been secured together.
This presents a very unique and superior means of the stringing and assembling of crackers together, and at the same time, a
very attractive package is presented.
Having described my invention, What I claim as new and novel is:
l. A method for detachably connecting togetl er aplurality of pyrotechnic display elements having looped fuses, consisting of connecting each pyrotechnic element together in series by linking the loops together.
2; A method for detachably connecting together a plurality of pyrotechnic display eleinents having: looped fuses, consisting of connecting each pyrotechnic element by linking the loops together.
A- method for detacliably connecting a plurality of pyrotechnic display elements having looped fuses, consisting in connecting the elements together in series by passing the loops or" each through the loop of the element preceding it in the series and bending each interlock-ed loop substantially at right angles-to the aXis of each element.
l. A method for detachably connecting a plurality of pyrotechnic display elements having looped fuses, consisting of turning the element to be. attached to another element at substantially right angles to that other element, then inserting the loop-of the i :t named element through the loop of the 89nd cther element and turning the attached element until its loop issubstantiallyin line wi :hato't the other element.
A package for pyrotechnic display elemr ts comprising.firecrackers. having looped fuses, each of said firecrackers connected to the adjacent firecracker by means. of said P- i A package of-pyroteclmic' display elements comprising firecrackersihaving;looped fuses, each; ofsaid looped fuses bent; at suhstantially a right i angle to the axis of thjefire cracker containing said loop, each of said firecrackers connected to the adjacent firecracker hy the interlocking of their loops.
7. A package of pyrotechnic display elements comprising firecrackers having looped fuses, said looped fuses bent at substantially a right angle to the axis of each element, said loops flattened'toreceive the loop of the adjacent firecracker.
8. A package of pyrotechnic display elements comprising firecrackers having looped fuses, each of said'tirecrackers connected to th adjacent firecracker by means of said loop, the length of the loop being greater thanthe width-thereof.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature.
THOMAS Gr. HITT.
