rom o. neuron, or SA TA ARBARA, oamnonnm nLooK-EJncrme MACHINE Application filedpecember 27, 1926; Serial No.157,206.
- This invention relates to the manufacture of bricks or similar blocks and more particularly toi apparatus for their removal from the forms in which they are compacted.
The object ofthe invention is to provide a simply constructed and easily actuable machinewhich willreceive the forms containing the compacted blocks, expel the blocks together with the pallet upon which they rest from the forms, and bring the forms into position for return to the compacting apparatus, with a minimum of attention and practically no eifort on the part of an attendant.
The invention resides in. a track having rollers between the rails thereof for the feeding of the forms and their pallets to a section of movable track having relatively stationary rollers therebetween, means for elevating the movable track section relatively to the rollers and while carrying a form, means for engaging the blocks on the pallet carried upon the rollers during such movement for thereby ejecting the blocks, means for then permitting elevation of the block engaging means to free the form for horizontal movement, and means for receiving the form when moved horizontally from the elevated track section. The invention resides further in the various features and details of construction and combinations thereof set forth herein and in the accompanying drawings and claims.
In the drawings, wherein one embodiment of the invention is disclosed by way of illustration.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of apparatus constructed according to the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a horizontal view taken from the line 2 2 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 3 is chiefly a side elevation showing a form in position ready for ejection of the blocks;
Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing the location of the parts just after ejection of the blocks;
Fig. 5 is a side elevation showing the relation of parts after elevation of the block ejecting means, the blocks and pallet being Figs. 6,7 and 8 are views taken from the lines 66, 7-7, and 8-8 of Figs. 3, 4 and 5 respectively showing at right angles thereto the relation of the parts in the three positions represented thereby and Fig. 9 is a longitudinal section through one of the filled forms about to be fed to the expelling apparatus. 7 i j The apparatus comprises standards 10 which support the spaced rails 12of the track between which the rollers 14 are mounted, return rails'15 being positioned above rails 12. The carriage to be handled comprises the form 16 having side walls provided with Wheels 18 and partitions 20, the blocks B- resting upon a separable pallet 22 running upon the rollers 14, the wheels 18 by reason of their engagement with the tracks 12' serving to guide the movements of the carriage which is adapted to be run onto a section of liftabletraok 24 between which there is disposed a corresponding set of rollers 25 mounted between a pair of fixed bars 26 mounted on a frame Work 28 carried by the standards 10 and also rigidly connected with an upper frame work 30 at the tops of standards 10 by means of rods 32. The rails 24of the liftable track section are mounted on cross bars 34 carried on the lower ends of lifting screws 35 received in bevel gears 36 which mesh with bevel gears 37 driven by a chain 38, gears 39 and shafts 40 from an electric motor -M or the like, whereby said track sections 24 may be raised or lowered through operation of said motor -M-and screws35 as desired, the device thus constituting a screw=hoist.
For the purpose of engaging the blocks --B- and holding them and the pallet 22 upon the rollers 25while the form 16 is being elevated on rail sections 24,.aseries of plungers 44 are provided, these being carried on the under sideofa frame 45 and having block engaging bases 46 of the size andshape of the blocks B.. The frame 45 is supported by a series of cables 48 which pass over pulleys 50 in the top of framework 30 and are connected with counter-weight W working-in guides 52 and adapted to be cushioned by spring 53. If necessary a compensating weight 54 maybe used in conjunction with weight W. In order that the normally stationary plungers 44 may be elevated for freeing the elevated form 16 and allowing the latter to pass to return rails 15, swinging links are employed for engaging the plunger frame 45, the upper ends of said links being pivoted at 56 to framework 30 while their lower ends are pivoted to an actuating arm 58 whereby the links may be moved to the position shown in Figs. 5 and 8 to permit withdrawal ofthe plungers 44 by action of the counterweight W, or may be moved to the position of the other figures to hold said plungers in depressed position. To facilitate these movements, the lower extremities of links 55 are rounded on one corner at 59, a spring is connected with the links to assist return and insure retention thereof in lowered position, and a handle 62 is provided on arm 58. When the parts have been moved to the position shown in Figs. 5 and 8, the form 16 may be moved from track sections 24 onto return track 15, the pallet 22 and blocks --B- carried thereby may be moved to the right onto discharge rollers 114, and the motor M- may be operated to return track sections 24 to lowered position through actuation of the screws 35 in gears 37 In operation, the form 16 and its pallet 22 with blocks -B is moved along track 12 onto the sections 24 with pallet 22 resting on rollers 25 in bars 26 and the bases 46 of plungcrs44 are caused to engage the tops of blocks B-, the links 55 being in the position of Figs. 3 and 6. Motor -M is then operated to cause rotation of gears 37 and screws 35 whereby cross bars 34 and rail sections 24 are elevated carrying with them the form 16 and its partitions 20 while the plungers press upon blocks -B and force them from the form causing said pallet 22 and blocks -B to remain on rollers 25, as indicated in Figs. 4 and 7. Pallet 22 and blocks B may then be moved onto discharge rollers 114, but in order to move from 16 onto return tracks 15 it is first necessary to withdraw plungers 44,
which is accomplished by moving arm 58 to the left to withdraw links 55 and allow counterweight -W to act to lift the plunger frame 45 to the position shown in Figs. 5 and 8 where the plunger bases 46 are above the partitions 20 of the form 16. Reversal of these operations restores the parts to original position.
What I claim is:
1. In a machine for ejecting blocks from a form having a removable block-carrying pallet, a support to receive said pallet during ejection of the blocks, a support for receiving said form during block ejection, a screw hoist for elevating said form-support, plungers adapted to engage blocks on said pallet elevating the plungers from the form after ejection of the blocks.
2. A brick making apparatus comprising a pair of tracks arranged one above the other, said tracks having oppositely disposed openings, a movable track section normally disposed in the opening of the lower track, a form having a separable pallet adapted to be moved along said tracks, means to elevate the movable track section with the form into the opening of the upper track, plungers adapted to engage the blocks in said form as the sectional track is elevated, supporting means for said plungers adapted to be elevated from the form after the ejection of the blocks for freeing the form from said plungers, the empty form being returned over the upper track after an ejectment of the blocks therefrom, and means to lower the sectional track into normal position on the lower track.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have. hereunto subscribed my name this. 30th day of November, 1926.
JOHN C. PELTON.
