incloses a substantially rectangular, noncollapsible, steel frame having a limited degree y of flexibility. A foldable Ventilating flap is applied at the Vcurtains front edge and at its rear lower corner an opening covered by a flap is provided, the object of which is to al-V 2o low the chaulfeur t0l extend his hand outside the vehicle.
The curtain is supported at its lower end by brackets mounted in sockets formed `in the door and at its upper margin the topV is .25, equipped with a valance attached in a novel manner to form a joint and allow ready clashing or folding of the top.

Ourl novel curtain is indicated as a whole at 5, is non-collapsible, and comprises a iexible metal frame 6, sewed in the curtain 5 at its border. The frame 6, is of steel but obviously may be of any suitable material. A one-piece transparent sheet?, preferably of Acelluloid, takes up the center portion thereby affording aclear vision, and at its lower border the curtain has aiixed thereto the brackets 8, each having a downwardly eX- tending rounded shank 9, and a flat plate like portion 10 through which they are attached to the curtain border and steel frame .by means of bolts 11 and nuts 12.
The curtain overlaps the door 2 as shown at 13. At the top 4, the valance 14 is constructed integral therewith, so that the curtain and valance will overlap as shown at 15. The valance 14, is fastened to thetop at three points indicated at 16, 17 and 18, of which the fastening 16, is a permanent one and those at 17 and 18. are of the snap type. These fasteners are providedn the valance to allow the top to clash or fold'more readily by unfastenmg the rear end of the valance. At its rear edge, the curtain overlaps the triangular panel 1 9, as shown at 20, and at its fore edge 1t is secured to the windshield stanchion 23, by means of tabs 21, having snap fasteners 22, as shown in Figure 2.
In some instances it may be desirable to fallow increased ventilation and to Vthis end the fore edge of the curtain is equipped with ap 24, havingupper and lower rows of spaced snap fasteners 25. By releasing the tabs 21, from the fasteners 22, and rolling or folding the ap 24 backward and securing it at one of the series of fasteners 25, a space 26, Figure 3, is allowed for the ingress and egress of air. Obviously, thisl space may be as wide r narrow as desired withinthe limits allowed and the controlv of the circulation of the air maybe governed by the 9o.

The upper frame member 32 of the door 2, is provided with an opening 27, for receiving a ferrule 28, having a head 29, which rests upon the upper edge of the door. This ferrule is s/lightly enlarged in the direction 0f the width of the door, as indio-ated at 29', by dotted outline in Figure 5, the pur ose of which is to accommodate for slight di erences in placement of the brackets 8, on the curtain.
A left-hand curtain is shown in the drawing and accordingly a triangular opening 30, covered by a flap 31, is provided at its rear lower corner, the object of which is to allow the driver to extend his hand Without the vehicle for the purpose of signalling. The hem joint or hinge for the flap is shown at 32 and the overlap of the iap with the curtain is shown at 33. With the arrangement as shown, the flap at the corner has the advantage of being held in closed position by air pressure while the car is traveling.

It will be understood that various changes in the form, construction, composition and arrangement of the several parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, hence we do not wish to limit ourselves strictly to the structure herein set forth, but- We claim l. A side curtain for automobiles comprising an integral, noncollapsible, iexible frame sewed in the curtain, brackets secured to the curtain, said brackets having downwardly extending Shanks, a door having openings in its upper frame member, sockets in said openings for receiving the shank, said sockets being enlarged in one direction to accommodate for variations in distance between the Shanks.
2. A side curtain for automobiles, a flexible frame inclosed in said curtain, a oldable eX- tension flap at the front edge of said curtain, fasteners on said flap by means of which it may be removably attached to the windshield stanchion, or secured to the curtain when in folded position.
3. In combination with an automobile having a door, a top and a windshield, a valance attached to the top, permanently at its fore end and removably at its rear end and center, a noncollapsible curtain mounted on the door, said curtain'overlapping said valance, a foldable flap at the fore edge of the curtain adapted to be removably attached to the windshield, a transparent panel in said curtain, said panel having an openlng at one corner, and a flap closing said opening.
4,. In combination with an automobile having adoor and a top, a curtain between said door and top, said curtain including a frame inclosed within the curtain portion, a bracket rigidly secured to the trame 'and having a CERTIFICATE oT CORRECTION.
