Description

S. W. GEAR. NUTMEG-GRA'IER. No.175,346. Patented March .28, 1am,
\A/TNEESES INVEN U UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL W. GEAR, OF CAMBRIDGE, ASSIGNOR TO DOVER STAMPING COM- PANY, OF
BOSTON, MAS SAOHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN NUTMEG- GRATERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,346, dated March 28, 1876; application filed February 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL W. GEAR, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, have invented an I Improvement in N utmeg-Graters, of which the following is a specification:
This invention has for its object the construction of a nutmeg-grater in the followingdescribed Way. Reference is made to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in explaining the same, in which- Figure 1 is a plan of the front. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section; Fig. 3 a cross-section, and Fig. 4 a detail view.
I prefer to use sheet-tin for the purpose of my invention. The various parts are punched out of the necessary size and struck up, as required.
The front A is a semicircular frustum of a cone, provided with a suitable grating area,
as shown,'the flanges e, and the head 0. The back B is made tapering, and of sufflcient width to furnish the laps f. The parts are united either by first forming the laps f on the back and sliding the front into position, inserting the partition D, so that its edge will cured, and passes through a hole in the back,
and is bent, as shown.
This series of manipulations provides a desirable way for the manufacture of a strong and durable nutmeg-grater without the use of solder.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a nutmeggrater consisting of tapering back B, semiconical front A, beaded at a, and having inserted in said bead a the partition D, the whole united together without solder by the flanges and laps e f, substantially as shown and described.
SAMUEL W. GEAR. Witnesses:
B. .S. PARKER, F. F. RAYMOND.
