This invention relates to display cabinets and it is primarily an object of the invention to provid-e a device of this kind for use in public display of merchandise.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a cabinet of this kind divided into a plurality of compartments, certain of said compartments being adapted for display and the remainder to be used for storing a supply of merchandise and preferably in accordance with the various articles on display.

An additional object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind embodying side walls constituting removable panels, said Walls or panels being intended forY use in the, display of advertising and kindred matter.

A further objectof the invention is to provide a cabinet of this kind especially adapted and designed for use in connection with public gas stations to facilitate the sale ofA accessories and wherein the cabinet is provided with instruments of benefit to the car driver and thereby further increasing the efficiency of the cabinet in a manner which may 4be termed as a silent salesman.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a cabinet of this kind provided in its upper portion with a compartment adapted to contain articles for display, certain of the walls of such compartment permitting visual access therethrough, one of the walls of such compartment carrying an instrument, such as a plug tester, for convenient use in 4 connection with a motor driven vehicle. The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of -my improved display cabinet whereby certain important advantages are attained and the de- 'vice rendered simpler'7 less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed. l

As herein disclosed, my improved cabinet comprises a skeleton frame F of requisite dimensions and wherein the various members comprised therein preferably consist of angle irons.

The frame F, as herein disclosed, comprises four vertically disposed corner irons l connected at their lower extremities by the horizontal members 2 and similarly connected at their upper extremities by the horizontally disposed members 3. The members l above the upper members 3 are continued by the inwardly and upwardly disposed members 4 terminating in the vertically directed supplemental corner members 5. These members 5 are continued by the inwardly and upwardly inclined members 6 to the upper free end portions of which are suitably aiiiXed a top cap or crown member 7. This top cap or crown member 7 is preferably imperferate and opaque and, when in applied position, is in the form of an inverted dish of substantially a rectangular configuration.

The upper portion of the front plate 8, or that portion between the frontvertical members 5, isprovided with a pair of outstanding and 'vertically spaced bracket arms 10, the

outer extremities of which having pivotally connected therewith the box 11 of a plug testing instrument, said box 11 as clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings being interposed between the bracket arms 10. The outer face of the box 11 is provided with a sight slot l2 to permit visual access within the box to the testing element therein, such as a neon gas tube or its equivalent, and in order to facilitate such visual access the slot 12 is substantially deiined by an outstanding shading hood 14. The box 11 has leading therefrom a flexible conductor 15 in requisite connection with a testing mechanism within the box 11 and which is provided in its outer or free end portion with a clip 16 whereby the conductor 15 may be selectively engaged with the various plugs of the internal combustion engine of a motor driven vehicle.

By having the box 11 pivotally supported between the bracket arms 10 the box may be readily and conveniently swung or turned in opposite directions, thus avoiding the necessity of having the vehicle come to a stop at a fixed position with respect to the cabinet. In other words, it will be readily understood that upon varying positions of cars with respect to the cabinet the plug testing instrument may be readily and conveniently used simply by imparting desired turning movement to the box 11. This particularly applies to convenience in using the peep slot 12 so that the occupant of the car can readily observe such flashes as may be emitted from the neon tube during a plug testing operation.

The portions of the plates 8 between the vertical members 5 at the opposite sides of the supplemental cabinet are each provided with a transparent window 17 of desired dimensions providing means whereby visual access may be had to such articles of merchandise arranged for display withinV such `simplement cabinet and which will be brought to the attention of those persons using the testing instrument. In other words, by having the testing instrument or box 11 positioned as hereinbefore referred to, the person using such instrument whether occupying the car or without will have displayed to him the articles within the supplemental cabinet and thus have a tendency to bring to his attention such articles which he may desire to purchase.

The portion of the plate 8 between the rear members 5 is provided with a hinged door 18 herein disclosed as adapted to move upwardly when in open position and which is maintained in closed position against unauthorized opening through the medium of a desired lock mechanism 19. This door 18 is to permit the various articles to be displayed within the supplemental cabinet to be readily applied therein or removed therefrom.

Suitably supported within the upper or supplemental cabinet at a point below the windows 17 and the door 18 is a horizontally disposed partition 2O preferably of glass or kindred transparent material and supported by the brackets 21, above the partition 2O are the shelves 22 also preferably of glass or other transparent material, As is particularly illustrated in Figure Ll, these shelves extend along the sides of the supplemental cabinet provided with the windows 17 and closely adjacent thereto and have their inner marginal portions spaced one from the other so that the light rays emitted from a lamp 23 will' eli'ectively illuminate the interior above the partition 2() and also pass through such partition to effect illumination within the cabinet therebelow. As herein disclosed, the lamp 23 depends from a central portion of the top cap or crown member 7 and is adapted to be placed in communication with a suitable lsource of electricity in any desired manner.

Suitably supported by the corner members 1 at a desired distance below the partition 20 is a second horizontally disposed partition 24 preferably opaque and imperforate. The resultant conipartn'ient A afforded between the partition 21 and the bottom panel. 25 serves to hold in bulli a supply of articles similar to those on display within the upper or, as I term it, supplemental cabinet and from which the articles sold are preferably taken. Arranged within the cabinet a desired distance above the partition 24 and extending along opposite sides are the glass shelves 2G upon which merchandise is adapted to be positioned.

The rear or back plate 8 is continued downwardly of the corner members 1 to the bottom panel 25 and suitably secured thereto. The major portion of this extended plate 27, however, is cut out p1ovi ling an opening affording ready access within the cabinet at all points below the partition 24 and within the cabinet above the partition 211 to a point closely adjacent a member 3. The lower portion of this cut out part of the plate 27 is adapted to be closed by a door 28 having its lower end portion hingedly connected, as at 29, to the lower portion of the plate 27 proper and this door 28 when in closed position closes the opening in the plate 27 from a point slightly above the partition 21 to its lower end. This door 28 is lnaintained in its closed position by the desired latch mechanisms 30 arranged at the opposite side portions of the door 28 adjacent the upper or free end there of.

The upper or free end portion of the door 28 has hingedly connected thereto a supplemental door 31 which, when the door 28 is in closed position, is adapted to swing upwardly to close that portion of the opening in the plate 27 above the door 28 and said supplemental door is maintained in its closed position through the medium of a latch mechanism In view of the foregoing it is to be understood that the lower marginal portion of the supplemental door 31 is hingedly connected, as at 33, with the upper marginal portion of the door 28.

rI`he front and side posts 1 are connected by the horizontally disposed members 34 and interposed between said members 34 and the members 3 and the portions of the members 1 therebetween are the panels 35, the side panels preferably being of glass or other material and, if desired, the front panel 35 may be of similar material. These glass panels permit visual access to the merchandise arranged for display upon the partition 24 and the shelves 26.

The upper portion of the door 28 has disposed transversely thereacross a strip 36 which serves to strengthen the outer or free end portion of this door 23. Then the door 23 is in closed position this strip 36 is substantially coplanar with the members 34 whereby the symmetry of the design of the cabinet is maintained resulting in balanced proportions when considered from an esthetic standpoint.

The free marginal portions of the flanges of the members 1, the upstanding flanges of the members 2, and the lower marginal portions of the members 34 are outwardly oli'set to provide rabbets 37 to readily receive the marginal portions of the side and front pan- -f 38, said panels being separately held in applied position through the instrumentality of the removable bolts 39. These bolts 39 are preferably inserted from without with the holding nuts 39 within the cap, thus re` ducing to a minimum the liability of unauthorized removal of a panel. Interposed between the overlying portions of each of the panels and the associated portions of the frame F and member 34 are strips 40 of felt or other suitable material to assure a weather proof mounting of the panel.

Each of these panels is adapted to have arranged thereon suitable advertising or display matter as may be preferred and by having the panel removably maintained in applied position such panel can be readily replaced as desired and particularly for changing the character of advertisement or kindred matter to be displayed.

Applied if desired to the completed cabinet is an outstanding handle member or grip 41 to facilitate ordinary shifting of the cabinet and which manipulations may be further facilitated by the outstanding handle member 42 carried by the door 31. It is to be understood that this handle member 42 is only used to facilitate shifting of the cabinet when said door 31 together with the door 28 are in their closed and locked positions.

The cabinet proper at a predetermined a conventional nozzle for use in inflating a A tire and it is to be understood that the inner extremity of the line is adapted to be placed in suitable connection with a source of air under requisite pressure. This pipe line is also adapted Yto have in suitable communication therewith anV automatically registering pressure valve 48. As this pressure valve and the connections associated with the line 46 form no' part of my present invention it is not believed necessary that a detailed description and illustration thereof be given.

While the clip 16 hereinbefore referred to may be of any desired construction, I pre fer that the operating handles therefor have applied thereto the pads 16 of suitable insulating material to protect the user and alsoto provide the pads at their forward portions with the flanges -16a which provide means to prevent the hand slipping forwardly of the pads and coming into direct Contact with the cli While at all times not necessary, I find it of advantage to secure to the opposite side Walls of the box 11 suitable grips 49 to facilitate the requisite turning or swinging of the boX 1l.

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a display cabinet constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim 1. A cabinet of the class described comprising vertically disposed corner irons, cross members connecting the upper and lower end portions of said irons, said irons at their upper ends being continued by inwardly and upwardly disposed members terminating in vertically directed supplemental corner members, a crown member operatively supportedy by the supplemental corner members, panels interposed between and carried by the corner irons, the cross members, the supplemental corner members and the inwardly and upwardly disposed members, opposed panels inter-.posed between the supplemental corner members being provided With Windows, and a third of such panels being provided with a door, a horizontally disposed partition operatively supported by the supplemental corner members at a point below the Windows and door, and means to permit access to the cabinet below the partition.

2. A cabinet of the class described comprising vertically disposed corner irons, cross members connecting the upper and lower end portions of said irons, said irons at their upper ends being continued by inwardly and upwardly disposed members terminating` in vertically directed supplemental corner members, a crown member operatively supported by the supplemental corner members, panels interposed between and carried by the corneiirons, the cross members, the. supplemental corner members and the inwardly and upwardly disposed members, opposed panels interposed between the supplemental corner members being provided with Windows, and a third of such panels being provi-ded with a door.
