Description
R. H. ARNOLD.
EXTENSION-TABLE SLIDE. No.1'75,004, Patented Malrch 21, 1876.
NPEIEHS, PHOTD-UTHOGRAPHERI WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROLLIN H. ARNOLD, OF HONEOYE, NEW YORK. l.
IMPROVEMENT IN EXTENSION-TABLE SLIDES. v
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. I 75,004, dated March 21, 1876; application filed November 5, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RoLLrN H. ARNOLD,
,of the .village of Honeoye, in the town of Richmond, county of Ontario and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Im provementin Extension-Table Slides; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe construction and operation of the same, sufficient to enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to construct and make use ofthe invention, reference being had to the drawings accompanying this specification, and to the figures and letters of reference inarked thereon, in which like letters refer to like parts throughout the specification, and on which Figure 1 represents the end of the invention. Fig. .5 represents the working faces of the invention. Fig. 3 represents the sides and end in perspective.
My invention relates to extension -table slides. Its object is to simplify their construction, and thereby reduce their cost. It consists, first, in a pair of dovetail grooves sunk in the face at one end of a section of the slide; and, second, a pair of rectangular grooves in the same face at the other end of the same section of the slide; third, angular metal tongues fitted to slip in said grooves, attached -a'nd'the rectangular grooves 9, starting from the opposite end 9, meet,'and present an open circular cavity about one inch in diameter,
into which, making a clear-cut groove, runs the grooving-saw, the points a, opposite to and ina line with said grooves on the side of said cavity, forming stops for the tongues t,
which tongues operate in the said grooves from either end, as preferred, the same as, when in practice, the slide operates.
There is nothing arbitrary about the depth, width, or slope of the dovetail or rectangular grooves, these points being left to the preference of the manipulator; but about forty-five degrees with the face of the section into which they are sunk is found to give a good action for the tongues in the said grooves.
The grooves g are at right angles to the face of the section into Which they are sunk, and in other respects conform to the, dovetail grooves 01. In like manner the metal tongues t conform to the grooves in which they operate, and, by the pins 10, are permanently secured to the wood sections, the same being kept in place by the metal stop 8, space for which stop is provided at either endby inserting said tongues about an inch from the end of the wood sections. By Withdrawing stop 8 the sections are released and taken apart, as desired.
Having now fully described the coiistruction and operation of my improvement in extension-table slides, what I claim, and wish to secure from the United States by Letters Patent, is-
An improved extension-table slide, consist ing of the contiguous sections A, having at opposite ends in each a pair of dovetail grooves, d, and in each, at opposite ends from the dovetail grooves, a pair of rectangular grooves, 9, also having in each the'circular cavities o, forming the stop a, the angular metal tongues t, secured by the pins 1), and the removable stop 8, all arranged for the purposes substantially as shown and' specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto, in
the presence of these two witnesses, set my hand on this 30th day of September, A. D.
ROLLIN H. ARNOLD.
