"disclosed in the following specification, of whichgthe 'accomf. panying drawing forms a part, ink which theseparate kparts of my improvement are designated yby suitable reference characters in each i E?? of theV views, and in -whicht-fi Fig. 1 is adiagraminaticview,'showing a Vclothes-line mounted upon two pulle'ysandy illustrating i two. of my improved cleaning devicesjl f 1 Y v AFig.:2 is a side. and-sectional View ofone of the pulleys and devices shown, in Fig.v 1. o .Fig 3 is a partial section on the line 3-3 `ofFig.2.f` Y .lv J Fig. 4 is 'a' side View of a`; modified form of device' which I employ; and, f' f 'Fig..5 is asectionon the linezof Fig. 4.
' In Fig. llof 'the drawing,1 have shown at' 10,".a clothes-linelmounted upon two pulleys 11v and 11a, saidl Ypulleys ,being substantially of [the 'same construction and being simply `invertedinthe two uses so as to'engage thel upperlstrand v1 0a as wellas .the lower strand 10b of `the clothes-line -as -diagrammati'cally seen irl-Fig. 1';` n v In that-both pulleys 11 and 11a' areof simi-A`V lar construction, the :following brief description and application ofV reference numerals will apply toiboth'pulley devices. As seen in Fig. 2 of the drawing, the pulley comprises .50. a, box-shaped -casing12,- intheside walls!! of l which the pulley wheel13 is rotatably mountfp Y Y of such cross sectional form as to encircle the The outer ends of the parts 17 and 1 8 with 'that the part eration-offcljeaning or replacing the elements cdas seen at 111.v Said'boX-shaped casing 12 1s provided with a coupling ring or eye15 at jits rearend by means of which the pulley'y zmaybe secured to` asuitable support.
' At16,I have nshown foneofmy improved wiping devices, which constitutes a part of: the pulley structure. l`vSaid device .consists .of two channelior trough-shaped parts 17v andz18, the part` 18 being integral with the casing 12 byside arms 19,'w'hereas the part 17 1s supported in'connection with the casing, 12 througha spring member 20, the tenf l Vsion'of 'which` normally serves to hold the partjlOfin engagement with orto move the same in the direction of the part 18.
. The channelsv of the parts 17 and 18 of the wiping device are directed toward each other asvclearly seen lin Figs. 2 and 3 of thel drawy ing. YMounted inr said channels are cleaning. `70;v
elements 21 and22 respectively, one end of' saidelemnts having brushk bodies 21a and 22L whereas the other ends thereof are pro-jA vided withwiperbodies 21b and 22h, in the form of feltnor other rfabric which willbe suitable Vfor the purpose 'intended having 'sufficient body to withstandthe frictional ken-A gageinent with v`the clothes-line 1Q. Said. brush bodies as well'as-the wiperbodiesare clothes-line 10 as will be apparent, lthe brush body engagement 'with the clothes-linefbeing .shown .in cross' section in Fig. 3 of the drawlng.
respect to the pulley 11 are preferably'con tracted as seen at 23'and the .inner ends ,areA provided with clips l24; which serve to-retain the elements 21and- 22 against displacement; However, itwill be understood that any suit.v able means maybe provided for supporting the elements-21 and 22 inthe parts 17 and 18,: it .being-preferred that said'elements may ybe, vdetached whenever desired for cleaning,v,re-
pair or replacement. y It will ybeimderstood. 195
17 maygbe raisediby hand under f the tension .of thev spring 20 and thelclothes-`V line 10 removed fromsaid parts intheopfV 21and22. n p l V,
lop
Iii Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawing, I haveV i shown a modified form of cleaning device 25 which consists of two parts 26 and 27, the part 27 being formed integral with a pulley structure by side arms 28 in the same manner as the construction of the part 18 shown lin Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive. But, the part 26, in-
stead of being 'coupled with the pulleythrough a spring as in said first named iiguies slidably engages the part 27, this result being accomplished by providing outwardly projecting side flanges 272L on thepart 27 and corresponding inwardly directed channel portions 26a on the part 26. In this construction, I mount in each part 26 and 27, a brush element 28 and a wiper element 29. The wiper elements 29 are shown in cross section in Fig. 5 of the drawing having fibrous bodies ,29a engaging the clothes-line 10 as will be apparent.
In the construction shown in Figs. land. 5, at least one of each of the elements 28 and 29 are backed up by springs 30 and 3l secured to the crosshead of the parts 26 and 27 which are also channel-shaped in cross sectional form.V These springs serve to force one of the elements 28--29 in the direction of the other of said elements to firmly engage the clothesline arranged between the brush and wiper bodies thereof. It will be understood that both of the elements may be 'backed up by springs, if desired, but one set of springs should be sufficient. v
In the use of my improved cleaning device,VV
it will be understood that as the lower part l0b of the clothes-line is moved outwardly from one of the pulleys illy-l1a in the operation of hanging clothes thereon, the clothesline is first brushed `and then wiped clean.
At the same time, the upper line l021 is also N the clothes-line.
From' the foregoing, it will be apparent that I preferably use two of my improved devices, one in Vconjunction with each ofthe pulleys employed in supporting a clothesline, but it will be understood that-only one ture, for example inthe use of metallic strands. such as wire, cabling and the like, nor is my invention necessarily limited to the Y. specic elements disclosed constituting part of the device.
lVhile I have shown certain details of construction for carrying my invention. into effect Vand have` illustra-ted my improved devices as constituting part of a pulley structure of specific construction, it will be understood that my invention is not limited in thesev respects andvarious changes therein and modifications of the construction herein shown and described, may be `made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the 'spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. A pulley7 Va supporting frame which is provided l,with an extending portion composed of separate parts, one of said parts being integral with the frame and the `other part coupled therewith, said parts being arranged in parallel relation, andA cleaningelements arranged on the. inner faces of said parts and adapted toengage said strand.

A pulley, a supporting frame which is provided with an exten ding portion composed of separate parts, one of saidA parts being integral with the frame'and the other part coupled therewith, said parts being. arranged in parallel relation, cleaning elements arranged on the inner faces of said parts and adapted to engage said strand, and the second named 'v part being joined to said frame by means of a loop-shaped spring tensionally supporting said part upon the other part and said strand.
3. A pulley, fa supporting ,frame which'is provided with an eXtendinO' portioncomposed of separate parts, one ofsaid parts being integral with the frame and the other part coupled therewith, said parts being arranged in parallel relation, cleaning elements farranged on the inner faces of said parts' and adapted to engage said strand, and means' for supporting said parts in adjacent Yrelation to tensionally engage said cleaning elements with the strand passed therebetween.
4. A pulley, a supporting frame which is provided with an extending. portion composed of separate parts, one of said parts being integral with the frame andthe other part coupled therewith, said partsbeing arranged in'parallel relation, cleaning elements arranged on the innerl'faces of said parts and adapted to engage said strand, means for supporting said parts in adjacent relation to tensionally engage said cleaning elements with the strand passed therebetween, and the cleaning elements'be'ing'of'different texture in each of said parts.
