This invention relates to a combination stepladder, pressing board and table, and it is an object'of the invention .to provide ade vice ofthis kind wherein the pressing board 5 serves as a support when 131166181 108 1s employed .as a stepladderand whereinthe step-2 ladder is constructed in a manner to provide a rigid supportwhen. thedevice is used as a pressing board orztable.
The inVentiOnc nsistsin the details ofcon struction and in the combination: and arrangement of the several parts off my improved cornbination stepla'dderi pressing board andtable whereby certain important advantagesare atta nedand' the device rendered sln p ler less expensive and otherwise morehconvenient and 1 advantageous for use, as; wlll be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features ofunyinvention'fwill hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section illustrating a device con structed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention adjusted for use as a stepladder;
Figure 2 is a view in front elevation of the device as illustrated in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a view partly insection and partly in elevation of the device adjusted for use as a pressing board;
Figure 4 is a detailed sectional view taken substantially on the line 4;4L of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a detailed sectional view taken substantially on the line 55 of Figure 1;
Figure 6 is a detailed sectional view taken substantially on the line 6-6 of Figure 1;
Figure 7 is a detailed sectional view taken substantially on the line 77 of Figure 1; and
Figure 8 is a view in bottom plan of the board with the associated leaves to permit the device to be employed as a table.
As disclosed in the drawings, 1, 2, 3 andt denote steps comprised in the ladder structure and which are associated with the side tional rails "Ta-re adapted to be folded and adjusted inward-l-y of the rails 6 to be disposed lengthwise thereof when" said rails V 6 and? are compacted. p
The top step 1 isprovided at its opposite ends and closely adj acen't'to its forward mare gin ,with the upstandingflspindles or trum nions 18 engageab lewithinsuitable-openings provided in the side rails ,6 whereby said step 1 isqsupported 'fo-r swinging-movement i ("The rear marginal portion of the $136131 is operatively connected. by a -bracket '15 with an end PCrtion ofa Presser board 5thereby, prov-idingmea'ns wherebythe board?) as par- I ticularly-illustrated iiiFigure'l, can be'used as a supporting member or back legffor the device when emp'loyed as a stepladder; -The openi g in :commun icationwith 7 said channel The inner rails 7 attheupperend portions thereof are connected or tied" by fa brace -8 and the; rails f7; substantially midway their ends'are provided with transversely disposed grooves or cli ann'els 2O in-each of which is received a Inarginalportion ozfthethird step 3.: Each endportion of this step 3 is provided with an outstanding spindle ojr trunnion, disposedthrough a rail 7 and the adjaa centfraifl 6' whereby said rails-6 and}? are connected for relative swinging movement; The remaining step 4 is carried by and interposed7 between the'rlower. portions of the rails' i i The forward end portions :of the "mile 6 {at l the upper parts thereof are provided with notches or recesses 16 to receive the rear portionof the step 2 when said rails c m 1%?- are in folded or compacted:relationfeach "of 'said stepladder, an elongated rigid brace 12 is hingedly connected, as at 11, to the inner or under face of the board, such connection being of a detachable type. The opposite end portion of this brace carries a hook for engagement with an eye member 14 extending rearwardly from the step 3 whereby the board 5 is effectively maintained in desired position to serve as a support or back leg for the -.-:tructure.
In Figure 3 of the drawings, the device is shown as adjusted for use as a pressing board with the rails 6 and 7 swung or adjusted into crossed relation. The lower or free end portions of the rails 6 are arranged for contact with any desired supporting surface while the upper end portions of the legs 7 are in contact with a butting member 10 disposed transversely across the under surface of the board 5.
In Figure 8 a detachable leaf 28 is shown disposed along each side of the board 5 to permit the device to be employed as a table. Each leaf 28 is connected by hinges 11 to the marginal portions of the board 5, said hinges secured to the under surface of the board 5 at points desired. The braces 22 when swung outwardly underlie the raised leaves 28 and each of the braces 22 is pivotally connected with a plate 23 through the medium of a conventional bolt 24 and nut 25. The wedges 26 are carried by the board 5 for coaction with the braces 22 to tighten the same.
The outer or free end portion of the board has secured to the under surface thereof a hanger 27 through which the brace 12 is adapted to be disposed to provide further support for the leaves 28.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a combination stepladder, pressing board and table constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to he understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim i 1. A combined stepladder and pressing board comprising side rails, a step interposed between and pivotally engaged with the upper portions of said rails, supplemental rails adapted to be disposed inwardly of the first named rails closely adjacent thereto, a
step interposed between the second named rails and having spindles extending through the adjacent portions of all the rails whereby the first named rails and second named rails are capable of relative swinging movement, a step interposed between the second named rails and carried thereby and positioned below the second named step, a pressing hoaa means for connecting an end portion of said board to the first named step, a brace member, means for connecting an extremity of said brace member to the board, and coacting means carried by the brace member and second step for detachably connecting the brace member with said step.
2. A combined stepladder and pressing board comprising side rails, a step interposed between and pivotally engaged with the upper portions of said rails, supplemental rails adapted to be disposed inwardly of the first named rails closely adjacent thereto, a step interposed between the second named rails and having spindles extending through the adjacent portions of all the rails whereby the first named rails and second named rails are capable of relative swinging movement, a step interposed between the second named rails and carried thereby and positioned below the second named step, a pressing board, means for connecting an end portion of said board to the first named step, leaves, coacting means carried by the board and leaves for detachably connecting said leaves and board, and means carried by the board for coaction with the leaves to maintain the leaves raised.
