TROUSER CREASER Filed Dec. 2, 1927 Z! 5 if 4 Patented Jan. 28, 1930 UNITED STATES P ENT- F j WILLARD WALTER, OEMONGO, INDIANA :rnousnn onEAsnit Application filed December 2, 1927. Serial No. 237,324.
My invention relates to trouser creasers and has as its object to provide an apparatus wherein no rivets, bolts, etc. are used for fastening the elements operatively together.
Another object is to provide a creaser that Figure 3 is an edge view of my devicein use;
Figure 4 is an enlarged detall of a marginal portion of my devlce;
Figure 5 is an enlarged section along the line 55 in Figure 1; Figure 6 is an enlarged section along the 29 line 66 in Figure 2;
' Figure 7 is an enlarged detail sectional view through a portion of the upper bearing plate of one of the creasing members showing one of the hooks for mounting the trans verse bars.
In carrying out my invention, I provide two sections A and B hereinafter referred to as the upper and lower sections respectively.
Each section is formed of the oppositely positioned longitudinal creasing members C and Dreleasably joined together at E. The
said creasing members C and D are each formed of an upper leaf 1 and a lower leaf 2 hingedly connected at their margins, as
40 shown at 23. In the making of these leaves,
elongated strips of suitable material are formed with the flat bearing plates 3 and are bent and formed at their margins upon longitudinal lines of fleXure into the upstanding double-ply flangest. Lips 5, integral with the said flanges 4, are bent around a hinge wire 6 so'that the creasing members may be swung open to receive a pair of trousers. This development is clearly shown in Figure 50 6. The ends of the lower members 20f secward.
tio'n Aar'e extended at 7' and given a corr'ugated form as shown at 8 in Figure 6.' The adjacent ends of the lower bearing plates 2 .of section B have a strap or loop 9' cut and pressed outwardly and given a corrugated shape for forming a socket 10 for the extended corrugated ends 7 of section To hold the said creasing members C andD' in the proper fixed relation, I provide the two transverse bars 11, U-shaped in cross section. 6 From the points 12 outward on the said bars 11, a lip 13 isturned at ri ht angles to one of i the sidesll of the bars. guitable slots 15 are cut through the flanges 4, adjacent the upper and lower ends of the members and D and are adapted to engage the lips 13 of the channelbarsll so that the sections C and D may be held inthrough proper postion in a common "plane; I'line the inside Surfaces of the bearing plates 8 with a suitable cloth 16 upon which the trousers rest while in the process of creasing. To'hold the upper and lower leaves land 2 tightly against the trousers, I provide the transverse U-shaped channel bars 17 substantially the same as the bars 11. Hooks 18 are pivoted through a small raised portion 19 of the upper bearing plates 3 upon the creasing members D. These said hooks 18 have the angularly extended prongs 20 so that the bars 17 may be slipped in them in a lateral direction and se-' cured from slipping either upward or down Open hooks 21 are pivoted in the raised portions 22 of the upper bearing plates. 3 of the creasing members O, being, positionedin transverse alignment with the" I said hooks 18. The hooks 21 being open, the
ends ofthefsaid transverse bars 17 may be brought into engagement therewith in a swiveling movement upon the hooks 18. From the foregoing description, it may be easily understood that the creasing members may beheld in the proper spacedrelation while the trousers are placed therein and great pressure be brought to bearby the transverse bars in the hooks.
WVhile I have herein set forth a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understood that I may vary from the same in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my 1 invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a device of the kind described, a pair of oppositely positioned creasing members, each such member comprising two leaves of strip sheet metal hingedly connected at their outer margins, the said leaves having perpendicularly turned flanges along their edges, the two corresponding leaves of each pair having the said flanges slotted near their ends, and two U-shaped bars formed of strip sheet metal, the said bars having lips turned perpendicularly from one side near the ends of the bars, for transversely engaging the said slotted ends of the said two leaves, for holding the said leaves fixed in a common plane.
2. In a device of the kind described, a pair of oppositely positioned creasing members, each such member comprising two leaves of. strip sheet metal hingedlv connected at their outer margins, the said leaves having erpendicularly turned flanges along their e ges, the two corresponding leaves of each pair having the said flanges slotted near their ends, and two U-shaped bars formed of strip sheet metal, the said bars having lips turned perpendicularly from one side near the ends of the bars, for transversely engaging the said slotted ends of the said two leaves, for holdin the said leaves fixed in a common plane, ooks upon the outer faces of the other two leaves, and bars adapted to transversely engage said hooks for holding those leaves pressed upon their hingedly connected companion leaves.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
WILLARD WALTER.
