Like parts are identified by the same reference characters throughout the several views. The improved bowl comprises a body 1 of a generally bowl-shaped form provided with a rear extension 2 to initially receive water from what is commonly termed the fountain, i. e. the valve casing and associated parts. The valve casing 4 is suitably plugged as indicated at 5 and 6 to facilitate connecting a'water supply pipe either at the side or top. The casing nozzle overhangs extension 2. p Y

Side walls 8 of the rearward extension 2 are provided with upward extensions 9, each having a groove or slideway 10 extending horizontally along its inner face from front to rear and adapted to receive corresponding slide members or ribs 11, constituting portions of the base of the fountain or hydrant in a position to fit within the respective grooves or slideways 10. The fountain or hydrant hasa portion 15which extends rearwardly from the valve casing 4 and connects the valve casing with a clamping plate 16 having an undercut channel 17 extending vertically along its outer or rear face midway between a pair ofxbolt holes18, whereby the fountain may be secured to a vertically ex tending post or pipe by a clampingplate 19 and bolts 20' (Fig. 5) or connected with a horizontal pipe by the same clamping ,plate adjusted to the pipe and clamped thereto by bolts having their heads anchored in the undercut channel 17 If the fountain is to be secured to a wall, it may be connected thereto by bolts extending through bolt holes 18 or anchored in the channel 17, or if desired, some of the connecting bolts may be passed through the holes 18 and others anchored in the undercut channel '17 to suit the requirements of any given installation. i
.The rear wall of the water receiving extension'2 has its upper margin provided with a rib 22 having a downwardly and rearwardly inclined upper surface 23, whereby when the bowl is being pushed into place in in terlocking engagement with the slide members 11, the latch pin 25, extending through the fountain member'15, will be automatically lifted until it passes over the rib 22 and drops by gravity to thelocking position in which it is shown in Figure 6. The clamping plate lfiispreferably extended downwardly below the slide members 11 as shown at 26 inFigure 6, thereby serving as a stop to limit the rearward movement of the bowl when engaged by the side wall extensions 9. The latch pin 25 prevents forward movement of the bowl when in the locking position in which it is shown in Figure 6, but this pin may be manually lifted by grasp ing its head 28 and pulling it upwardly to permit a forward withdrawal of the bowl from the fountain.
It will be understoodthat the valve mechanism contained within the casing i may be of any ordinary type provided with an operating stem29 to be actuated by the nose of the animal when pressed upon a nose lever 3O pivotally supported within the bowl by trunnions indicated at 31.
It will be observed in Figure 6 that the head of the latch pin 25 seats upon the portion of the fountain within the narrow space between the valve casing 4 and the clamping plate 16. The latch pin head is therefore in a position where it cannot be reached by the nose of the animal to manipulate it out of position, although the operator can readily reach it and manually withdraw the pin sufficiently to permit of a movement of the bowl. It will also be observedthat the bowl is held in a horizontal position and may move horizontally into and out of interlocking relation to the slide members ll. hen engaged by said slide members to any considerable extent, the bowl will be supportedthereby in a horizontal position, if the operator should be required to release the bowl for any purpose preparatory to pushing it fully to" its normal position in which itis locked by the latch pin25. This feature is of considerable importance forthe reason that it is possible to remove and replace bowls without tilting them or spilling their contents, and it is also possible to temporarily leave them in a horizontal position when only partially engaged with the fountain, thereby enabling the operator to give attention to an uneasy o'r'eager animal interfering with the proper adjustment of'the bowl to itsnormal position.
I claim:
1. In a stock drinking bowl mechanism, the combination'with a support, of a bowl having wall portions adapted" for substantially horizontal sliding movement into and out of interlocking relation to. the support,
and a movable latch member carried by the support'and adapted to. engagethe bowl to prevent its withdrawal when the'lat-ter has been moved to a position of full normal interlocking engagement with said support; said bowl and the support being adapted to permit a complete withdrawal of the bowl from the support when the latch is retracted and while maintaining the bowl in an upright liquid retaining position. I
2. The combination with a stock drinking bowl support, having substantially horizontal, laterally extending bowl supporting slide members, of a drinking bowl having'c'ounterpart slide members adapted to move hori zontally along the supporting slide members to a bowl supporting position thereon, and a locking member for normally preventing reverse movement, said bowl being movable along its supporting slide members to a position of complete disengagement when unlocked. V
3. The combination with a stock drinking bowl support having substantially horizontal, laterally extending bowl supporting slide members, of a drinkingbowl havingcounterpartslide members adapted to move'horizontally along the supporting slide members to a bowl supporting position thereon, and in a reverse direction to a position of complete release, a limiting stop on the support in the path of a portion of the bowl, and a locking member for normally preventing revers movement.
l. The combination with a stockdrinking bowl having parallel upwardly projecting side flanges, a support having ,parallel interlocking members with which said side flanges may engage-to-support the bowl in a horizontal position, said interlocking members being adaptedto'al-low a horizontal retractive movement of the bowl to a position of complete disengagement from the support, and a latch pin carried by the supportin a position for engagement with a portion of the bowl to normally prevent retractive movement thereof 5. The combination with a stock drinking bowl having parallel upwardly projecting wall members, provided with horizontally extending grooves in their'inner faces open at their rear ends, a support having ribs adapted to be received in'said grooves to support the bowl when the latter is moved horizontally into normal relation to the support, a movable latch pin depending from the support in the path ofthe rear wall of the bowl and adapted to engage the inner side of said wall when the bowl is in normal position to prevent retractive movement of the bowl.
6. The combination with a support, of a drinking bowl adapted to move horizontally from'a position of complete detachment into a suspended mutually interlocking relation to the support, a stop to limit such horizontal movement and a vertically movable locking member adapted, in one position to engage the rear'margin of the bowl to prevent retractive movement of the bowl. i
7- The combination with a support,rof a drinking bowl-adapted to movehorizontally into a suspended mutually interlocking rela- 1 tion'to the support, a stop to limit such horizontal movement and movable locklngmember adapted, in one position toprevent retractive movement of the bowl, said movable locking member comprising a vertically movable pin having a head engageable with the support to limit its downward movement and a lower portion engageable within th bowl adjacent to its rear wall.
8. The combination of a support having-a raised connecting plate, and a raised valve casing spaced therefrom, an intermediate latch pin carried by the support and having a lower end normally depending therefrom,
laterally projecting substantially horizontal slide members on the support, a bowl adapted to slide along said slide members in'interacting'en'gagement therewith and having a rear wallprovidedwith a downwardly and rearwardly beveled upper margin adapted to engage and lift the latch pin to position where its lower end may drop along the inner surface of the wall to prevent retractive I movement of the bowl.
9. The combination of a drinking bowl support having a connecting plate provided 7 with a vertically extending undercut channel bers from the grooves until-the latch is moved to releasing position, and the nozzle,v support for bolt heads in various positions of elevations flanked by bolt-receiving apertures.
10. The combination of a drinking bowl support having a raised connecting plate, a raised valve casing spaced therefrom, and an intermediate bowl engaging latch member having an operating piece protected from manipulation by cattle by said connecting plate and valve casing.
11. In a stool: watering bowl mechanism, the combination with a nozzle support having parallel side ribs, and a movable latch carried thereby, 01": a drinking bowl having a rear portion provided with upwardly extending side walls, each having a slide groove adapted to receive one of said ribs, said latch being in a position to engage a portion of the bowl to prevent withdrawal of the slide members from the grooves until the latch is moved to releasing position, and the nozzle support having raised members to protect the latch from manipulation by animals.
12. In a stock watering bowl mechanism, the combination with a nozzle support having parallel side ribs, and a movable latch carried thereby, of a drinking bowl having a rear portion provided'with upwardly extending side walls, each having a slide groove adapted to receive one of said ribs, said latch being in a position to engage a portion of the bowl to prevent withdrawal of the slide memhaving raised members to protect the latch from manipulation by animals, said bowl" having an inclined surface adapted to automatically retract the latch when the bowl is moving to normal position of engagement and allow the latch to drop to holding position upon completion of such movement.
