This invention relates to improvements in devices for rendering multicolor weft replenishing looms particularly adaptable for the weaving of cloths having but one color or character of filling and it is the general object of the invention to simplify constructions heretofore in use for accomplishing this general result.
ln co-pending application Serial No. 263,- 468 filed by Molloy and Belisle March 21, 1928 there is shown a slide member which can be applied to the ordinary multicolor weft replenishing stationary magazine in sucha way as to render possible the use of filling of but one kind in all compartments of the magazine when but one shuttle is used. The device shown in said application has a pair of lifting arms one located on each side of the center of the device and the elevation of the device is effected by one or another of the vertical slides Tvhich are raised when the weft detector indicates substantial weft exhaustion to initiate replenishment. In such a construction the lifting force is always applied to one side of the attachment so that there is some cramping and consequent wearing or uncertainty of operation. It is an important object of our present invention to provide a simple attachment for a multicolor magazine which will be acted upon to be raised by direct engagement with the color slide of the magazine without necessarily depending upon the vertical slides. It is possible that in carrying out our invention part of the lifting force for our improved mechanism may be derived from one or another of the vertical slides, but the remainder of the force will preferably be derived from the color slide.
In the usual multicolor weft replenishing mechanism there is a so-called color slide, which, as generally made, employs two spaced fingers and is given both angular and longitudinal movements. The angular movements are of two kinds, one to depress the lingers every alternate beat of the loom while the shuttle is on the side of the loom opposite the magazine, while the other angular movement is effective to raise the fingers only on indicating detecting beats when an empty 1928. The longitudinal movements of the color slide are controlled by the pattern mechanism or boxmotion and said lingers are so disposed and related to the vertical slides which control the releasing of the bobbins from their respective cradles that but one vertical slide can be raised at a time. It is for this reason that the cramping due to applying a lifting force to one side of the center occurs in the attachment set forth in the aforesaid application. ,It is a further object of our invention to design the device forming the subject matter of our present invention so that the same will have direct engagement with the finger on the color slide which will be out of register-with all the vertical slides when any slide is raised at indication of weft exhaustion.
It is found that the fingers of the aforesaid color slide when cooperating with the inner vertical slides will lie one on one side and one onthe other side of the centerline passing between the inner slides and we make use of this relation to prevent twisting of the attachnient forming the Subj ect matter of our present invention by actuating the latter by both fingers. It is also found that then the color slide is operatively related to either of the outside slides the finger out of register of all slides will be approximately at a mid point between the inner slides and is therefore positioned to raise the attachment without causing twisting.
The ordinary weft replenishing magazine is so constructed that a slight distance exists between the vertical slides and the supporting plate orframe of the magazine. le find that we are able to guide and position our improved attachment by forming the same with bent ends which extend behind certain of the vertical slides.
It is to be understood that our present invention is more particularly useful on an automatic box loom which has been converted into a single color loom so that there will be but one active shuttle. The box motion will be disconnected from the boxes and if desired the box motion may be disconnected from the pattern mechanism and indication for the color slide derived from the pattern mechadepleted and as shown herein this depletion will occur when the finger 32 is in register with verticalslide 26with the result .that the latter will .be raisedY to the position shown in Fig. l and diagrammatically in Fig..5.. The raising is accompanied by an upward movement on the part of the rdevice 50 which is brought about by engagement between the fingers v32 and 33 with the finger rail'56. By
an inspection of Figs. 3 and 5 it will be seenthat the raising fingers which elevate the device 50 are on opposite sides of the center ofV said'devices so that there is very. little if any tendency on the part of said devices to twist and cramp as the same is raised. On the next pick of the loom the color slide will be given an angular movement' in a right hand direction as viewed inFig. 2 so that the fingers 32 and 33 will engage the shelf 5l and move the device-50 down or, back to normal position. This return movement ofthe device 50 will cause restoration of the vertical slide 26 to its'lower'positionby reason of the engagement between the lower lug 35 thereof and the shelf 5l.
v Because of the length of shelf 51' said device will always be lowered onthe pick following the indication of weft exhaustion. Thus, for instancefif the color slide after raisingl slide 26 should kmove to thef right to assume the dotted lineposition shown in Fig. 5 or the full line position shown in Fig. 7 where the finger 32 has moved out of register with slide 26, the device will nevertheless be lowered vand with it any vertical slide which effectedprevious raising of said device.

As previously stated, it is desirable to keep practically no tendthe color slide in one longitudinal kposition for a comparatively large number of picks rather than to keep'the same moving rather'rapidly from one position to another. The reason for thisis dueto the fact that the total number of picks on a full bobbin which may be laid `between replenishment andV subsequent expulsion will more likely be a multiple of a small number than Vof a larger number. If all the bobbins wove exactly the same number of picks before calling for a transfer and that number were a multiple of the number of picks required for a complete cycle of movement on the part of the color slide, transfer would always take place from the same vertical stack of .bobbins Itl is to prevent this possibility that we believe the controlling device of the color slide should move the same rather infrequently.
From the foregoing it will be seen that we will further be seen that the device is so con-V structed as to have the raising force applied thereto at two points so located that there is practically no turning movement brought to play on the device tending to twist the same.
Also, it will be seen that the vertical slides which cooperate with the device are the means by which said device is held in proper' position. Such a relation between the parts is more preferable than that shown in the aforesaid Molloy and Belisle application because of the fact that the location of the slides is determined very accurately by jigs etc. while the'location of the slot which guides the upper portion of the device shown in the aforesaid application is not finished and remains unchanged after being cast.
Having thus described our invention it will be seen that changes and modifications may be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and we do not wish to be limited to the details `herein disclosed, but what we claim is:

4. In a multicolor weft replenishing mechanism having a plurality oi reciproeable spaced bobbin releasing members, a ycolor 4slide movable longitudinally and havin-g two opposite angular movements, one Vmovement occurring at indication of weft exhaustion only, and on detecting picks and the other movement 'oc'- curring every non-detecting pick of the loom, said color slide having two spaced fingers, and a devi-ce to be engaged by said fingers a-t two v spaced points 'on indicating detecting beats of the. loom to be raised 'simultaneously with the raising of one of the members, said color slide on a subsequent non-detecting beat of the loom causing engagement between the lingers thereof and the device at two spaced points to lower the device to cause lowering of the previously raised member, theA vertical movements of said device being independent of the longitudinal position of the color slide.
