This invention relates to copy holders for typewriters. i
The main object of the invention is to pro-v vide a copy holder having a stand on which is mounted a copy carrier which may be readily raised or lowered by theoperator to bring any portion of the copy carried thereby into the view of the operator.
Another object is to provide a copy holder in a simple and durable form which may be folded into a small compass for convenient transportation from place to place f or for storing away when'not in use 1 The foregoing and otherv objects together with means whereby thesame may be carried into effect will best be understoodfrom the following description of a preferred embodiment of the invention taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein: Figure 1 is a front view ofthe invention ready for use.

Figure 8 is a rear detail view of the rule joint hinge between the connecting links and the rear leg.
The stand 1 comprises the two front legs 2 and 3 of any suitable material and the relatively longer rear leg 4. A supporting arm 5 is secured by a rivet 6 adjacent the upper end of the leg 2 at the rear thereof and this arm is bent rearwardly at 7 from the leg to form a pocket or cleft 8. A similar supporting arm 9 is pivoted by a rivet 10 adjacent the upper end of the other leg 3 and is also bent rearwardly at 11 to form a similar pocket or cleft 12. These supporting arms 5 and 9 extend upwardly from the corresponding legs 2 and 3 but the arm 9-may 5 be swung inwardly to facilitate setting up copy carrier -43 and 44 the outer ends of which are exthe device as will be set forth. Outer connecting links 13 and 14' are pivotally attached at 15-to the upperends of the arms 5 and 9 and similar inner connecting links 16 and 17 are pivotally, connected at 18 to the inner endsof the links 13 and 14, the inner ends of" the said inner links 16 and 17 being pivotally connected byr rivets 19 in an angle hinge 20 which has one of its webs 21 over- "lying these inner pivoted ends to form a rule joint and prevent the said links from pivotingexc'ept in one direction. The upper end of the rear leg 4 is reduced and flattened at 22 and is pivoted between pivot members 23 which are mounted upon the rivets 19 connectingthe said inner links 16 and 17 so that the said leg 4 may be swung rearwardly from thefront legs 2 and 3 and hold the same upright as shown.v Lower links 24 and 25 are pivotally connected by rivets 26 to the rear of the frontlegs 2 and 3 near their lower ends and the inner ends of the said links are pivotally connected by rivets 27 in the angle and 10 thereof. and are similarly secured at their-lower ends over the ends of the links 24and 25 by their mountingrivets 26, the 5 said side bars 32 being thus spaced rearward- 7 ly from the legs 2 and 3 forming a slideway 33 for a purpose to be described. Operating rod mounting plates 34 and 35 which are angular in cross section are secured by rivets so 36 through their narrow webs '37 to the upper ends of the legs-2 and 3with their wide webs 38 directed rearwardly alongside the said legs as shown. Apertures 39 are provided in these wide webs 38 in horizontal alignmentsfi witheach other and in registry with the clefts 8 and 12 for a purpose to be described.
The copy carrier or rack 40 comprises the base members 41 and 42 having rear flanges v sagging and holding tended laterally and bent rearwardly and outwardly to form ears which are slidably mounted in the slideways 33. The inner ends of the flanges 43 and 44 are pivotally attached by rivets 46 to the lower end of the center rack bar 47 Side rack arms 48 are pivoted by rivets'49 to thefianges 43 and- 44 at either side of the center bar 47 and "con necting arms 50 are pivoted at 51 tothis bar 47 adjacent its upper endand 52 to side arms 48. In this manner'a rack or carrier is formed upon which the copy maybe placed and supported, the side arms 48 and connecting arms 50 preventing the copy from it flat as will be understood. 7
An operatin shaft 53 is-provided,-the same being substantially longer than the vwidth of theystand 1 and having one end threaded at 54 for the'reception 0 he operating knob 55. The shaft 53 is provided-with a ratchet wheel'56 adjacent its end and'a toothed operating wheel-i 57 medially located asshown. When the stand andcarrier are assembled the shaft 53 has its ends rotatably mounted through the apertures 39 in the plates 34 and 35, the leg 3 beingcut away at 58 along its outsideladjacent'the web 38" of the plate 35 for the reception of-the ratchet wheel56.
