My invention relates to portable compressor outfits.
One object of the invention is to devise an improved arrangement of the different units of a compressor outfit on a portable base frame. Another object is to provide a portable compressor outfit of verylow overall height particularly adapted for use in mines where the head room is limited. A still to further object is to provide an arrangement of the units in a portable compressor outfit with a view to keeping the overall width as low as possible and at the same time maintaining a minimum overall height. A more specific 5 object is to provide a novel arrangement of the elements in a portable compressor outfit, wherein the cylinders of the compressor are positioned horizontally and transversely I of the frame. Other objects and advantages 50 will, however, hereinafter subsequently apear. p In the accompanying drawings I have shown for purposes of illustration one form which my invention may assume in practice.
In these drawings,- Fig. 1 represents a plan view of the compressor outfit mounted on a mine trackway.

In this illustrative embodiment of my invention I have shown a frame member 1 for carrying the elements of the compressor mechanisnnthe frame member 1 being provided with side flanges 2 and end flanges 3.
The frame member 1 has secured thereto bearing members 4, in which are mounted the truck axles 5 carrying the truck wheels 6. This construction brings the supporting level of the frame very close to the level of the axles. Other arrangements for securing the wheels to the frame element may,however, be substituted for the one which has been illustrated and described without departing from the principles of my invention. A motor 8, preferably of standard design, is secured to the floor 9 of the frame member by suitable brackets 10;, and is preferably positioned not midway between'the sides of the frame, but offset from such a middle position. in this instance disposed longitudinally of the frame and connected directly to the crank shaft 11 of the compressor 12' through a suitable coupling element 13. If it is desired,
however, to reduce the speed of the compressor below that of the motor, any suitable reduction gearing may be mounted between the motor and compressor crank shaft. The crank case 14 of the compressor has afbase 15 with lugs or a flange 16 for attachment to the floor The motor shaft is,

This provldes a more compact arrangement than havingone of the cylinders extending from each side of the crank caseflvhich may be an important consideration if it is desired to reduce the overall width of the outfit to a minimum. However, in mines where the width is not such an important consideration, the crank case may be so designed as to accommodate an extra pair of cylinders on the oppositeside ofthe crank shaft to increase the capacity. The usual connecting rods 20 and crank shaft counterbalance weight 21 are illustrated. The type of compressor illustrated is usually provided with a liquid cooling system which, in this instance, includes a" low radia= 1 tor 28 mounted on one end of the frame, preferably alinement with the motor 8. The

It will thus be seen that I have provided a very compact arrangement of the essential units ofa compressor outfit in Which theoverall heightjhas been kept down to such an extent thatfit is. determined by the high point of tlie driving motorwhen a standard motor is employed; At the same time itwill-be o bserved that the width of the entire outfit has been reduced to a minimum and that any desired increase in'capacitymay be easily taken care of by a proportionate increase in'the length ofthe 'outfit withoutin any'way' increasingthe overall heiglit'or' the Width.
While Ihave in this application specifi cally described one form -which my'inven- 1 tion may assume in practice, it will be understood that his form of the same is shown for purposesof illustration and that the invention may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit or the scope, of the appended'claims.

In a portable compressor outfit, a wheel mounted base frame, a horizontal compressor mounted thereon having a crank shaft extending longitudinally of said frame and a horizontal cylinder extending transversely thereof, a driving motor mounted on said frame ofiset from a position midway between the sides thereof, and a receiver tank mounted alongside said motor, the overall dimension of said compressor in a direction parallel to the cylinder thereof determining the overall width of the outfit.

In a portable compressor outfit, a wheel mounted base frame, a horizontal compressor mounted thereon having a crank shaft extending longitudinally and offset toward one side of said frame and a cylinder extending horizontally transversely thereof, a driving motor mounted on said frame having its shaft alined with said compressor crank shaft and operatively connected to drive the same,
