FILLING DEVICE FOR CIGAR AND CIGARETTE LIGHTERS Application filed April 4,

This invention relates to filling devices and in particular to a novel form of cigar or cigarette lighter filler.

A particular object of the invention is to provide for use in stores, as a sales promotion article, a novelcontainer holding means which is shaped to simulate a gasoline station filling pump but which, in reality, is utilized for the filling of cigar or cigarette 19 lighters with alcohol and one which can be manipulated by the storelreeper quickly and efiiciently without removal of any of the arts.

A still further object of the invention is 15 to provide in a device of the character re ferred to a substantially fireproof housing in which. is disposed a receptacle containing a highly inflammable liquid whereby the same is encased and fire hazard reduced. thereby meeting the requirements of various city ordinances for the storing of inflammable liquids in stores and among merchandise where the keeping of the same is ordinarily prohibited.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device whereby a finger can be inserted through a suitable opening in the housing to compress an atomizer bulb so that the flammable contents of the receptacle with- 33 in the housing will be ejected through a spout, the end of which is positioned exteriorly of the housing, the spout being so arranged that it can be forced through the opening in the cigar or cigarette lighter so that the cotton or other porous mass therein may be impregnated with alcohol, gasoline or other inflammable material that is necessary in its operation.

To enable others skilled in the art to fully comprehend the underlying features of my invention that they may embody the same in the various modifications in structure and relation contemplated, a drawing depicting a preferred form has been annexed as a part of this disclosure and in such drawing, similar reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout all the views, of which,

tion filling pump being clearly brought out and the opening therein through which access is had to the atomizer bulb being clearly indicated, and

Figure 2 is a view in cross sectional elevation, the section being taken at right angles to the view illustrated in Figure 1 and showing the position of the interior lug through the medium of which the receptacle may be positioned so that the spout thereof extends to a point exterior of the housing.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 5 indicates a housing having a widened base portion 6 with which is integrally cast, a pocket 7. This member 7 is provided with a suitable bore 8 into which the end 9 of a rubber tube 10 is positioned, the same being suitably secured therein through the use of glue or other retaining agent and the tubing being of such a size as to simulate the gas hose used in connection with gasoline station filling pumps, it of course being understood that the housing 5 is tapered from bottom to top to also simulate this type of pump and is provided adjacent its upper end with a restrigted portion 11, this restricted portion being provided with a nipple 12 to which the upper end 13 of the rubber tubing 10 is secured. The top of the body or housing 5 is undercut as at 14 to provide a seat for a receptacle-like top 15 and on the seat 14 so formed, I may place a suitable rubber ring or gasket 16 which will prevent breakage of the receptacle-like top, which is preferably made of glass when the bonnet 17 is placed in posi tion on top of the receptacle 15 and is tightened up through the medium of the bolts 18. 19 and 20 on the body portion 5 and bonnet 17 respectively, the bolts 18 being secured in place through the medium of the nuts 21 so that when the entire device is assembled, it provides a very striking simulation of the gasoline filling station pump.

The housing 5 provided with a slot 22, the upper end of which terminates in an elongated opening 23, the slot being arranged to permit passage therethrough of a spout which is connected to the upper end or nozzle portion 25 oil a liquid receptacle 26, the

liquid receptacle being suitably positioned within the housing 5. The extreme upper end of the nozzle is provided with a rubber bulb 27 and the contents of the receptacle 26 is removed in the same manner as the contents of an atomizer, the air pressure from the bulb forcing the liquid of the atomizer out through the spout Qt.

The receptacle 26, atits lower end, is positioned between bosses 28 which are cast peripherally of the inner surface of the lower portion of the housing 5, a suitable set screw 29 being threaded through the Wallof the the bulb 27 to cause the contents of the receptacle 26 to be ejected through, the spout 24, it of course, being understood that the spout 24L can be passed through the opening in the bottom of a cigarette or cigar lighter to saturate the porousmaterial held therein.

It is also evident that the receptacle-like top, which can be made out of any vitreous material, such as glass, can be colored or can be filledwith a colored liquid or can be arranged to hold an illuminating member or advertising media.

It is evident, therefore, that I have provided an ornamental housing and receptacle therefor, for the filling of cigarette lighters with a highly combustible liquid which is substantially fireproof and which conceals the can in which the combustible liquid is ordinarily sold;

It is evident, also, that I have provided a novel form of sales promotion device which can be manipulated by the keeper of a store at the request of patrons and which will obviate the necessity of carrying about on the person, small quantities of combustible liquids for the filling of lighters.

It is also evident that I have provided a device of the character described which simulates the gasoline station filling pump and which permits filling of cigar or cigarette lighters Without soiling the hands or rem0ving any of the parts of a receptacle or without danger of exposing the combustible liquid during the filling operation.

lVh-ile I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve theright and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlat-ed part-s without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is A container comprising a housing having a finger opening and a slot therein, a dispensing receptacle in said housing having a spout extending through said slot, centering lugs cast on the interior wall of said housing, means adjacent said lugs for holding the receptacle in position, and limiting lugs within the housing for engaging the upper end of the receptacle.
