This invention relates to new and improved power mechanism and it is the object thereof, among other things, to produce mechanism of this character that may provide the maximum power pressure withthe minimum manual ell'ort.
To these and other ends, my invention con sists in'the power mechanism, having certain details of construction and combinations of parts, will be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

the embodiment of my invention as herein disclosed, is the body member which is substantially rectangular in cross section that is closed at its ends by cover plates 11, each of which is provided with a radial slot 12. Projecting through the body member 10 and cover plate 11 are the rods 13, which also extend through the cam slots 14 in the cam plates 15.
For the pin-pose of minimizing friction, each rod 13 near its outer end is encircled by a roll 16, which rides in the slot 12, a roll 17, which rides within a cam slot 14, and a spacing; collar 18 therebetween.

The details of this ratchet connectionare not shown, because it is of stand ard construction; On this shaft 'is'a ratchet 26 which co-operates with a pawl 27' to'pre vent premature rotation of the shaft. Manipulation of the lever 25 rotates the'upper cam plate 15, and by reason ofthecam slots 14k the rods 13 are moved toward and away from each other. The movement of the upper cam plate is transmitted to the lowencam plate through the pinions19, 20,28'and 29.

Movably mounted within the body member 10' and through the upper cap and adjacent parts is a plunger '31 havinga contact plat=e=32 at its'upper'end and terminating at its lower end in a guide block 33', havin'g"laterally pro j ectingJ-lugs 34 "which travel in grooves 35' in theinner walls of the body-member 1t).

All of thesecam members 36' are provided with cam faces upon opposite sides thereof, except the-one at the top and 9 the one at the bottom, both of which have cam facesupon ene-side only and a straight face upon the opposite side, The upper cam member is in contactuvi h roll s42 journaled in the'cover-plate 11 and the lower cam mem- 1 her with rolls 13 journaled in the guide block 33.
The movement of the rods 13 toward each other cause the rolls to ride to the low point of each of the cam faces 37, and thus positively move the plunger 31 inwardly so that the contact plate 32 will be brought closer to the cap 30 and the reverse result obtains during the movement of the rods 13 away from each other.
Between the guide block 33 and the lower cover plate 11, are a plurality of cam members 14 that are substantially the same design and structure as the cam members 36, except that the direction of inclination of the cam faces is the reverse of those of the cam faces 37, so that as the rods move toward each other, the rolls 40 move toward the lower part of the cam faces 45. Hence the plunger 31 is positively moved in both directions, in one direction the pressure being applied from the cam member 36 upon one side of the guide block 35, and in the other direction by the cam member 36 on the opposite side of the block 33.
The upper and lower cam members 4% are provided with one straight face against which ride the rolls 46 connected with the block o3 and rolls 47 connected with the lower cam plate 11.
By this mechanism, very limited manual power applied to the lever 25 is magnified into a very powerful action of the plunger 31, which is taken advantage of when the device is either used as a jack or for other purposes through the contact plate 32.
There are minor changes and alterations that may be made within my invention and I would therefore have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown and described, but claim all that falls fairly within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In mechanism of the character described; a body member; a plunger; a guide block connected with the plunger; a plurality of cam members, some of the cam members being upon one side of the guide block and other of the cam members being upon the opposite side thereof; a plurality of rolls between the cam faces of the cam members; and means for moving the cam members toward and away from each other whereby reciprocatory movement is imparted to the plunger, the cam faces upon the cam members upon one side of the guide block being inclined in a direction opposite to those upon the other side of thecguide block.
2. I11 combination with a body and a reciprocal plunger, having an abutment, rods on opposite sides of the plunger, cam members connected to the rods and disposed on opposite sides of the abutment for moving the latter and thereby the plunger in opposite directions, the cam faces of the cam members on one side of the abutment being inclined oppositely to the cam faces on the other side thereof, means to move the rods toward and away from one another, and means between adjacent cam members guidingly supported by the body for causing the cam members to act against the abutment.
3. In combination with a reciprocal plunger having a block thereon, a pair of rods disposed parallel to the plunger and bodily movable radially thereof, rotary members having cam slots receiving the rods therein for effecting said radial movement of the rods, two sets of cam members on each side of the block, the cam faces of the cam members on one side of the block being reversely inclined with respect to those on the opposite side of the block, means for the cam members of the sets to cause same to act on the block, and means to effect movement of the rotary members.
4. In combination with a reciprocal plunger having a block thereon, a pair of rods disposed parallel to the plunger and bodily movable radially thereof, rotary members having cam slots receiving the rods therein for effecting said radial movement of the.
rods, two sets of cam members on each side of the block, the cam faces of the cam members on one side of the block being reversely inclined with respect to those on the opposite side of the block, means for the cam members of the sets to cause same to act on the block, and means to effect movement of the rotary members, including a curved rack on one of the rotary members, and a rotatable pinion engaged with the rack.
