IMPROVEMENT IN MODES OF DRESSING MILLSTONES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 173,733, dated February 22, 1876; application filed December 2, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. MERRITT, of Bardolph, in the county of McDonough and State of Illinois, have invented a new and use:
with a hoop, a cylinder fitted in the eye of the upper stone, provided with a plug, as hereinafter fully explained.

The operation is as follows: The hoop C is placed around the bed-stone B, as shown in Fig. 1, and is made water-tight by any suitable means. The cylinder sis inserted in the eye of the upper stone A, and is fitted with any suitable packing that will make it airtight. By this mode of dressing millstones the face of each stone is made perfectly true, and the edges of the grooves and cellular portions of the stones are sharpened, and made ready for grinding without the use of the common pick Having thusfully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The bed-stone B, provided with the water-tight hoop G, for holding water around the stones while in the act of dressing, substantialiy as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with the bed-stone B and hoop U, the cylinder 8 and plug 01, all operating substantially as described, for the purpose specified.
