This invention-relates to a sucker impaling machine and concerns itself with a structure in which a plurality of wrapped suckers packed in a suitable boxor container may be simultaneously impaled.
The invention comprises the novel structure and combination of partshereinafter described andmoreparticularly pointed'out and defined in the appended-claims.

Beneath the cross-head or driver 17, there is a second pair of transverse members 24 which are secured for movement therewith.
With reference to Figure 5, it will he noted that the transverse members 24' are shorter than the transverse members 19v and are slightly inside of the planes thereof. Each of these second transverse members slidably supports a pair of rods 25, the upper ends of the rods being confined by suitable nuts 26. 1 Thenlowerends of the rods 25 sustain. a plate 27 which forms a support forthe'stick magazine 28 (Figure 6). The stick magazine 28 'is slidably retained upon its base support by the lateral guide members 29 and 30 which are suitably undercut as shown in Figures 3 and 4 to receive the margins of the magazine thereunder. It might be here mentioned that the sustaining rods are secured to these guide members '29 as shown iii-Figured Upon the rear end of the support 27 there is secured a block 31 (Figure which limits the inward sliding movement of the stick magazine. In the operation of this sucker impaling 7 machine, a box or container of wrapped suckers is positioned in the form orboX at the base of the machine, and clampedin impaling position as previously explained. The
stickmagazine may then be removed from its support and replenished with sticks which need only to be inserted" in the tubes where they will be frictionally retained by the springs 40. The stick-magazine may then be'replaced upon itssupport and latched thereto by the latch 32 aspreviously explained. The operator will then elevate the pawl 51 androtate the handwheel 49vfor causing the driver 17 to descend. When the driver 17 has descended a sufficient distance,
the stripper plate 22 will cometo rest on the top of the'wrapped suckers which are indicated by the reference numeral 52in Figures 3 and 4. Thereafter. the driver 17 will move relatively to the stripper plate 22 and compress the springs 23 until the stick magazme rests upon the top of the stripper plate as shown in dotted lines in Figure 3. There'- after the driver. 17 willinove relatively to thestick magazine until the striker plate 18,

After the suckers have been properly 1mpaled, the operator will, of course, rotate the handwheel in the opposite direction for 'elevating the various parts. During this reverse operation the driver 17 will first be elevated until the transverse members 24 engage the nuts 26. Thereafter, the stick magazine will travel upwardly with the driver 17 and become disengaged from the impalin'g sticks plate: aawhich isstill being yieldingly retained against the top of the; suckers byfthe springs. 23. Assoon as the impaling sticks are stripped from the magazine andthe driver 17 has been elevated until the transverse members 19 engage the nuts 21 on the stripper rods 20, the stripper plate will be elevated with the driver 17'. From theforegoingit willbe obv ous that a very simple machi nehas' been provided whereby a large number of wrapped pieces 42 through the instrument'ality of the stripper its . securing a plurality of suckers in impaling means for driving said sticks. into saidsuckers, and yielding means for maintaining said of candy or suckers may be simultaneously impaled with very little effort. It'willalso be noted that the difficulty of wrapping the suckers after they are impaled is avoided by the present machine. According to this inin large quantities in a suitable machine. The wrapped suckers may then be packed in a clamping form at the base of the machine. Obviously, a great deal of time and labor is saved by the use of this machine.
I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention and I, therefore, do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon, otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention: I
1. In a sucker impaling machine, the combination with means for securing a plurality ciprocable striker,a stick magazine connected -to said striker for relative movement, and a stripper plate in advance of; saidmagazine of suckers, of means for simultaneously guiding and positioning a plurality of impaling sticks with respect to said suckers, and a reciprocable member for simultaneously driving said sticks into said suckers and means for stripping said sticks from said second-mentioned means.
2. In a sucker impaling machine, means for securing a plurality of suckers in impaling position, reciprocable mechanism embodying a stick magazine for carrying and positioning a plurality of sticks with respect to said suckers, a device for driving said sticks into said suckers, and means for stripping said sticks from said magazine.
3. In a sucker impaling machine, means for securing a plurality of suckers in impaling position, a stick magazine'tor simultaneously positioning a plurality of sticks with respect to said suckers, said magazine frictionally re-' taining said sticks against slidable movement, and a movable striker movable with and relative to said stick magazine for simultaneously driving. said sticks 'into said suckers.-
