Description
Nov. 12, 1929. A. J. JOHNSON SAXOPHONE Filed Oct. 22, 1926 J 5 a MW w 5. Y. n 5 A Patented Nov. 12, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ALFRED J. JOHNSON, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO YORK BAND IN- STRUMENT COMPANY, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN SAXOPHONE Application filed October 2-2, 1926. Serial No. 143,402.
This invention relates particularly to an improved key stop movement for saxo-phones or similar instruments.
The object of the invention is to simplify 5 such structure and avoid the necessity of the accurate fitting of the stop to the valve or pad and at the same time have an effective stop that is neat in appearance.
I accomplish the objects by the means described in the following specification. The
invention is defined in the claim. A structure Which is a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. 1 is a part of the body of a saxophone with my improved valve stop structure in place.
Fig. 2 is a transverse detail sectional view showing the stop means in side elevation.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail of the stop and its pad.
Considering the numerals of reference, 1 s the body or branch of a saxophone or similar instrument. 2 is the tone hole socket. 3 is the valve suitably pivoted and carried by the keys. l is the guard having a cross member 41 suitably secured in proximity to the tone hole socket. 5 is the stop secured to the guard rod 4 and being provided with a suitable pad 51 disposed and arranged to contact with the back of the valve where it contacts with the broad flat surface.
In the structure illustrated, the valve or stop is held normally open for its work.
However, the stop is available for the opposite motion and to limit the opening when ac- ;iated by a key.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination in a saxophone or similar instrument of a tone hole socket, a pivoted valve pad cup having a pad therein and having an imperforate outer surface, a suitable guard rod over said valve pad cup, and a stop my hand.
ALFRED J. JOHNSON.
