This invention relates to a glaziers point setter, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind wherein thev desired power to operate the setter is so equalized as to minimize the liability of the ydevicejerking or vjumping when in use and thus preventing breakage ofthe glass.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind embodying a hammer together with means whereby the eX- ltent of the stroke of the hammer may be lengthened or shortened as the requirements of practice may prefer.`
The invention also has for an object to l5 provide a pointsetter of this kind which,
when in use, does not have to be clampedinto working position and which includes a hammer adapted to be manually retracted and which is released for its striking or im-. pact stroke through the medium of a trigger.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device'of thiskind including;
a magazine and a hammer having requisite movement with respect to the magazine together with means whereby is assured the delivery of only a single point into position for impact by the hammer.
The invention consistsr in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts ofvour improved glaziers point setter whereby cer* tain important advantages are attained'and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advan tageous for use, aswill be hereinafter more fully set forth. As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, F denotes the frame ofthe device and which is substantially in the form of an inverted U with one end member or leg 8substantially straight from end' to end and the opposite or second: end member or leg 33 formed after the fashion of a pistolgrip adapted to be grasped by the hand ofthe user. The members orlegs 8 and 33 together with the intermediate portion of the frame have their longitudinal marginal portions deiinedr by the inwardlydisposed flanges .1 whereby the frame F also constitutes' what may be called'a housing. Pivotally connected, as at 25, between the ,flanges 1, .preferably by outstanding trunnions, is the upper end portion of a lever 9.
The pivotal connection'25 is Vclosely adja-` cent to the'upper end portion of the member 100 or leg 8 of the frame F and the lever 9 is disposed in a general direction toward the opposite end ofthe member or leg 8. The pivoted end portion of the lever 9 is continued by an elongated arm 2 arranged between the side flanges 1 disposed along the intermediate portion 3 of the frame F' and terminates closely adjacent to thel secondmember or leg 33. The vfree end portion of the arm 2 is continued by the downwardly disposed extension 4, the inner edge 4 Aof which being arranged on a downward and outward incline.
A trigger l() is pivotally supported, as at 23, between the flanges 1 at the junction of the intermediate portion or mem-ber 3 of the frame F and the member or leg 33 and at points in advance of the extension 4 but below the arm 2. The pivoted end portion of the triggerv 10l is bifurcated to provide spaced arms 5, each of which having associated therewith a pivotal mounting 23, such as a screw or the like. Y
The arm V2 in, its .swinging movement in connection withl the lever 9 is radapted to swing between the arms 5 and said arms of such length to permit the arm 2 and lever 9 to have desired swinging'action..
The free endl portion of the extension 4'has secured thereto an end portion of a retr'actile coilspring 20, the oppositel end` portion of which being suitably anchored, as at 34, to a lower portion of the member or leg 33, and more particularly theiianges 1 thereof. This spring 2O scrvesxto constantly urge the arm 2 downwardly and the lever 9 in a direction toward the member or leg 8, yet permits the same to readily have swinging movement in the opposite direction. y

practice7V the ngers of the hand grasping the member or leg 33 may be readily used to impose requisite pull upon the trigger 10 to force the arm 2 upwardly and the lever 9 rearwardly for a purpose to be hereinafter more particularly referred to.
The member or leg 8 of the frame' F also constitutesa magazine for holding a supply of points and the chamber of said magazine 32 is triangular in cross section to conform to they conguration of said points and. said magazine is open atopposi-te ends.
The cross sectional configuration of the chamber of the magazine 32 is preferablyv of such dimensions to receive a stack of points of the maximum size.,v When it is desired to employ points of smaller sizes an elongated plate of desired thickness is inserted from above within the chamber of the magazine in close contact with the posterior wall of the chamber of the magazine. The upper end portion of such plate 6 is provided with an enlargement or head 6 to facilitate its application or removal, it being understood that when the plate 6 is applied said enlargement or head 6 will be disposed above the upper open end of the chamber of the magazine. Itis also preferred that the points when applied within the chamber of .the magazine 32 be arranged in `a symmetrical column with adjacent points lightly connected by suitable adhesive.
Underlying the lower end of the magazine 32 and member or leg 8 is a magazine plate 13 maintained inv applied or working posi tion through the'medium of the rivets 26 or the like. The forward portion of the plate 13 is provided with a triangular opening 13 which is in register with the lower end of vthe chamber of theA magazine 32 Aand through which the points within the chamber of the magazine 32 are adapted to pass by gravity for successive position indesired alignment with the driver plate 15. The driver plate 15 underlies the applied magazine plate 13 for close contact therewith and the side marginal portions of the plate 15 have secured thereto' by the rivets 27 or the like the forward end portions of the driverv guide members 14. Inter-posed between the overlyingy portions of the yguilde members 14v and the plate 15 are the spacer strips 16maintaine'd in desired position through4 theI medium of the rivets 27 or the like hereinbefore referred to. These guidefmember's 14 extend rearwardly of the driver plate4 15 andare received within the rabbets 7 provided in thelower side marginal portions of the base portion of a driver blockll. These extended portions of the members 1'4 are anchored to the base portion of the driver'block 11 through the medium of rivets 36 or the like. It is to be noted that lthe outer side faces and thev bottom faces of 'the vextended portions of the members 14 received within the rabbets 7 are flush with the side and under faces of the bottom portion of the driver block l1. i 1

The lower portion of the driver` block 11 is also provided with the oppositelydisposed and laterally directed pins 35 with each of which is engaged i an' end portion of a retractile spring 18, the opposite end portion'of said spring being secured lto an extended portion 8 of the member or leg 8. As the' driver block 11 is retracted both of the springs 1 8 are placed under tension to facilitate the desired striking or impact stroke of the block.
The driver block 1l extendsv within the frame F a desired distance andits upper portion is provided with a groove or channel 11 of desired depth and extending in the same general direction as the path of travel of the block 11. Pivotally mounted intermediate its ends, as at 28, within the groove or channel 11 is an elongated member or plate 12. The forward end portion of the plate 12 extends in advance of'the'driver block 1l and hasl contacting therewith from below the free end portion of aV leaf spring 19, the oppo` site end portion of .which being secured, as at 29, by a rivet or the like to the forward face of the block 11. This spring V19 serves to constantly urge the extended or forward end portion of the member or plate-12 up wardly, the extent of such movement being" limited by a set screw 30 threaded through the opposite or rear end portion of the member or plate 12 and adapted to have contact with the face of the groove or channel 11. 31denotes a. lock nut engaged with the set screw 30 and contacting with the adjacent portion of the member or plate 12 to effectively hold the set screw 30 in its desired endwise adj ustment.y

From thef foregoing 'description it is thought to be obvious that a'glaziers point setter'constructed 1n accordance with our 1nvention is particularly well adapted for use` by reason of the convenience. and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, andV it will also beobvious that our invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof'and for this reason we do not wish to be understood as limiting ourselves to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown inA carrying applied magazine plate partially underlying said channels, elongated guide members movable through said channels and held therein I by the extended portions of the magazine plate, a driver plate secured to and bridging the space between the forward end portions ofthe guide members, said driver plate underlying the magazine plate, a driver block, means for securing the inner portions'of the Vguide members to the driver block, means forretracting the driver block, and means for imparting an impact stroke to the driver block upon release therefrom of the retracting means. A glaziers point setter comprising a substantially` 4U-shaped frame, one leg of which being formed to provide a magazine and the second a hand grip, a plate secured to the working end of thel leg provided withthe. magazine and Ahaving an opening registering with the discharge end of the magazine chamber, said leg at opposite sides of the chamber being' provided with channels, said applied magazine plate partially underlying said channels, elongated guide members Amovable through said channels `and held therein by the extended portions of the magazine plate, a driver plate secured to and bridging the space between the forward end portions of the guide members, said driver plate underlying the magazine plate, va driver block,
means for securingthe inner portions of the guide Vmembers' vto the driver block., means for retracting the driver block, retractile springs secured to the driver block and-to the leg provided with the magazine and placed under tension upon retraction of the driver block, and a compression lspring interposed between the driver block and the second leg of the frame and placed under compression upon retraction of the driver block, said springs imparting the impactstroke to the driver block upon release of the retracting means from the driver ',b'lock.`

A glaziers point setter comprising a substantially U-shaped frame, one Vleg of which being formed to provide a magazine and the second a hand grip, a plate secured to the working end of the leg provided with the magazine and having an opening registering with the discharge end of the magazine chamber, said leg at opposite sides of the chamber being provided with channels, said applied magazine plate partially underlying said channels, elongated guide members movable through said channels and held therein by the extended portions ofthe magazine plate, a driver plate `secured to and bridging the space between the forward end portions of the guide members, said driver plate underlying the magazine plate, a driver block, means for securing the inner portions of the guide members tothe driver block, means for retracting the driver block, meansv for imparting an impact stroke to the driver block upon release therefrom of the retracting means, the means for retract-ing the driver block comprising a lever having its upper portion pivotally engaged to the frame ata point adjacent to the upper portion of the leg provided with the magazine, said lever extending downwardly with its lower free end'portion adapted to have ,op-
verative engagement with thedriver block,
an arm carried by the pivoted portion ofthe lever and extending toward the second leg of the frame, said arm terminating in a depending extension, a trigger positioned adjacent to the second'leg and A.having one end portion pivotally connected to the fra-me adjacent the upper portion of the secondv leg, said trigger lbeing arranged kbelow the'arm and inwardly of the extension, a retractile member connected to the extension and to. the second leg of the frame at a point below the extension, and an outstanding pin carried by the trigger for contact with the extension, movement of the trigger toward the second leg resulting in upward movement of the arm and inward movement of `the lever to retract the driver block.

A glaziers point setter comprising a substantially U-shaped frame, 'one leg of which being formed to provide a magazine and the second a hand grip, a plate secured to the working end of the leg provided with the magazine and having an opening registering with the discharge end of the magazine chamber, said leg at opposite sides of the chamber being provided with channels, said applied magazine plate partially underlying said channels, elongatedv guide members movable through saidv channels, and held therein by the extended portions of the magazine plate, a driver plate securedrto and bridging the space between the forward end portions of the guide members, said driver plate underlying the magazine plate, a driver block, means for securing the inner portions of the guide members to the driver block, meansfor retracting the driver block, meansfor imparting an'impact stroke to the driver block vupon release therefrom of the retracting means, the means for lretracting the driver block comprising a depending `lever pivotally connected with the upper portion of the frame, the upper face ofthe block having a channel, extending in the same general direction as the direction of movement of the block, a plate pivotally engaged inter` nel, and a second portion projecting beyond the block and toward the lower free end of the lever, said lever when swung inwardly having Contact with the. adjacent end of the plate to retract the driver block until the lever passes free of the plate, means for imparting swinging movement to the lever, means for constantly urging the extended portion of the plate upwardly, and means carried by the plate and ooaeting with the driver block for limiting said upward movement of the plate.
