CHILD S SEAT ATTACHMENT FOR TOILET SEATS Filed March 17, 1927 (am-m g INVEN TOR. fiuao mare/v A TTORNEX Patented Oct. 22, 1929 PATENT OFFICE HUGO HAMILTON, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA CHILDS SEAT ATTACHMENT FOR TOILET SEATS Application filed March 17, 1927. Serial No. 175,982.
My invention relates to toilet seats, more particularly to toilet seat attachments for children, and the objects of my invention are: First, to provide a device of this class for small children which can be quickly attached to or detached from the conventional toilet seat of varying sizes and shapes; second, to provide a device of this class which is waterproof, resilient and flexible; third, to provide a device of this class which is sanitary; fourth, to provide a device of this class which can be rolled up into a small bundle, and thereby is easily carried from place to place; fifth, to provide a device of this class which prevents contact of a child with the toilet seat, thereby preventing the transmission of disease germs from the toilet seat, and sixth, to provide a device of this class which is simple and cheap of construction, durable, compact, efficient in its action, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
Vfith these and other objects in view, as will appear hereinafter, my invention con- F sists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon, which form a part of this application, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a conventional toilet bowl and seat with my device positioned thereon; Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of a toilet seat with my device positioned thereon; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view thereof through 3-3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional View thereof through 44 of Fig. 2 and at a right angle to the view of Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view of one of the hook support members through 55 of Fig. 2.
Similar characters of reference refer to.
similar parts and portions throughout the it several views of the drawings.
The secondary seat member 1 and hook supports 2 constitute the principal parts and portions of my childs seat attachment for toilet seats.
The secondary seat member 1 is made of pliable, resilient, yieldable material, such as rubber or the like, and conforms roughly to the shape of the forward portion of the conventional toilet seat S, but is smaller, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. The forward end of the secondary seat member 1 is provided with a downwardly extending flap 1, which prevents contact with the toilet seat by the child. Extending from the rear side portions of the seat member to the forward portion on either side or the flap member 1" are extended loop portions 1". The extended loop portions 1 are adapted to receive hook support members 2, one hook support member to each extended loop. At the point where the hook support'members 2 emerge from the extended loops 1', they are bent outwardly and downwardly at 2 and 2 at the forward and rear ends, respectively, ofthe extended loops'l", thereby forming hook portions 2 and 2 The hooks 2 and 2 areadapted to hook over the outer edges of the toilet seat S, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings. The hook portions of the hook support members 2 are covered with a protective covering, whichprotects the toilet seat S. Positioned over the forward portion ofthe hole S1 of the seat- S is an aperture 1 provided with reinforced edges 1 The rear portion 1 of the secondary seat between the hook support members 2 is reinforced to prevent undue sagging.
To place this attachment on atoilet seat, the hook members are drawn outwardly from each other, stretching the body 1, and slipped over the toilet seat. The device is then ready for use. 7
Though I have shown and described a particnlar construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not Wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but de sire to include in the scope of my invention, the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a toilet seat adapted for children, an elastic secondary toilet seat member adapted to fit over and cover the front half only of the conventional toilet seat and provided With a childs size opening therein adapted to lit over the front half only of the conventional toilet seat opening, and providcd with looped portions at its opposite sides and curved rod reinforcing means mounted in said looped portions and extend ing from the opposite ends of said looped portions and provided With hooks in the opposite ends adapted to fit over the edge of the conventional toilet seat whereby said elastic member may be stretched sutliciently to permit the hooks to be hooked over the edges of the toilet seat for rigidly supporting said secondary toilet seat in position over the front portion of the conventional toilet seat.
2. In a toilet seat adapted for children, an elastic secondary toilet seat member adapted to lit over and cover the front half only of the conventional toilet seat and provided With a childs size opening therein adapted. to lit over the front half only of the convential toilet seat opening, and provided with looped portions at its opposite sides and curved rod reinforcing means mounted in said looped portions and extending from the opposite ends of said looped portions and provided with hooks in the opposite ends adapted to lit over the edge of the conventional toilet seat wliereby said elastic member may be stretched smliciently to permit the hooks to be hooked over the edges of the toilet seat for rigidlysupporting said sec ondary toilet seat in position over the front portion of the conventional toilet seat, and cushion means covering said hook portions.
In a toilet seat adaptedfor children, an elastic secondary toilet seat member adapted to fit over and cover the front half only of the conventional. toilet seat and provided 3 With a childs size opening therein adapted to it over the front half only of the conven tional toilet seat- 0 )enin and )rovided with looped portions its opposite sides and ber may be stretched su'lliciently to permit
