Description

HEYSER 6L: MOBLEY.
Mowing Machine.
Patented May 19. 1857.-
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. HEYSER AND EDWARD M. MOBLEY, OF HAGERSTOWN, MD.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRAIN AND GRASS HARVESTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 17,328., dated May 19, 1857.
To all'whom it may concern:
Be it kown that we, JOHN H. HEYSER and EDWARD M. MoBLEY, of Hagerstowu, Wash. ington county, and State of Maryland, have invented a new and improved mode of harvesting grain and grass 5 and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 represents a perspective view, a part of the machine being represented as broken away to show more fully the device for operating the cutter-bar. Fig. 2 represents a side View of the machine.
The motion to drive the knives is derived from wheel A by applying the fork B, provided with rollers c, to a number of undulating parallel planes or cams, D,on the opposite faces or disks of the wheel A, which moves the arm E forward and backward in the direction in which the Wheel travels. The arm E is connected with the bent rocker G by the piece F, movable at each joint. The rocker Gr drives the slotted arm H by a pin, a,slidiugin aslot, s. The arm H has its fulcrum at I to the other end of H. At Kis attached the rod L, which is connected to the knife-bar O. The useof the slottediarm H is to'give two strokes of the knife-bar O to one of the fork B. Y represents the tongue of the machine, hinged to the main frame at N. The platform M, being attached to the main frame W, is raised and lowered by means of the screw X in the bridge X. 1
We do not claim operating the fork B by means of cams on the driving-wheel; but what we claim-as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Operating the cutter-bar 0 from the drivingwheel A by means of fork B and arm E, in combination with rocker G and slotted arm H, when said parts are constructed and arranged to operate in relation to each other as herein described.
JOHN H. HEYSER. ED. M. MUBLEY.
