. IMPROVEMENT lNiBRAcKE -s ANosToR DENTAL INSTRUMENTS. I
The subjectrmatter claimed will hereinafterspecifically be designated. I
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a bottomplan of so much of my improved apparatus as is necessaryto illustrate the subject-matter herein claimed; Fig. 2, a side view thereof, with portions of theclamping devices shown in-se tion.
The supporting-arm A, secured to the chair or other suitable support, is provided with bearings B B, in which a rod or bar, 0, turns and moves freely endwise. A nut or frictionclamp, D, having its lower side tapering, or conical, takes-into a corresponding recess in .thelower bearing, and fits loosely upon the rod on which it is clamped by a set-screw, E. The object in making the friction-clamp conical is to create friction enough to prevent the rod from turning, unless positively moved. The clamp-nut, it will beobserved, is confined by the rod 0 between the bearings B B, and thus prevented from becoming displaced.
It is obvious from the above description that the rod can be adjusted up or down in any desired position, and fastened by the clamp screw and nut, which prevents its descent below a given point, but still allows it. to turn in its bearings when positively moved.
Specification formingpart of LettersPatent No. 173.148, dated February 8, 1876; application filed January 5, 1876. I
An arm, F, projects laterally from the rod 0, and carries a clamp-screw, I, provided with a head'whioh fits in the grooves of a longitudtable can swing freely upon the pivot O, and 1 can be adjusted by moving the table laterally upon the' arm F, and can also be turned or swung around the clampscrew or pivot I, thus 1 giving a wide range of adjustment to the apparatus.
I claim as my invention l. The combination of the bracket-frame, its
bearings, the rod movable freely end-wise and structed and operating substantially as hereinbefore set forth.
3. The instrument-stand hereinbefore described, consisting of the combination of the WM. D. BALDWIN, ELI T. STARR.
