Description

Oct. 8, 1929. 'F HENRI 1,730,973
GOLF BALL CLEANER Filed Feb. 17. 1928 r (baa/T Q 'WZW/ W! ova ya Patented Get. 8, 1929 UNETEE STATES CHARLES F. HENRIZI, OF 'MENGMONEE FALLS, VJISCONSIN GOLF-BALL CLEANER Application filed February 17, 1928. Serial No. 254,992.
This invention relates to golf ball cleaners.
@bjects of this invention are to provide a golf ball cleaner which is so constructed that the balls may be placed in a rotary frame member or disc and may be readily rotated and passed through a cleaning so lution or through water and may be brushed automatically as they through the water so that the golf balls are thoroughly freed from any adhering dirt.
Further objects are to provide a machine having the characteristics noted above which is so constructed that provision is made for ready filling of th machine or draining it and for inserting and removing the balls with the utmost freedom, and to provide a machine which will simultaneously clean a plurality of balls.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l is a side elevation of the device with the crank sectioned off and with parts broken away and in section;
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Figure l.
Referring to the drawings, it will be 11 that the machine comprises a casing having a water compartment 1 and an upper portion 2. It is provided with a base having apertured lugs 3 by means of which it may be secured to a table. Within the water compartn'ient, a pair of brushes 4 are positioned and may be retained in place by means of screws 5 passing through the side walls of the casing and entering the backs of the brushes so that the brushes are pooned with their brisl. es directed. towards each other.
The machine is provided wit-h a pair of bearings 6 within which a shaft 7 is car ried. This shaft is equipped with a manipulating crank 8 on its outer side, by means of which it may be rotated, and rigidly carries a disc 9 within the interior of the casing. This disc is provided with a plurality of apertures, and a marginal flange 10 is positioned around each aperture so as to receive and hold the balls 11. The balls may be inserted through an opening 12 normally covered by a flap 13 provided with a handle 14. This flap is equipped with lugs to properly hold the balls in place, as shown in Figure 2. The opposite side of the casing is provided with an aperture 15 through which the operator may insert his finger to punch the balls outwardly through the aperture '12 when the balls have been cleaned.
It is to be noted also that the Water compartment is provided with an outwardly projecting lip 16 and has a filling opening 17. It is also provided with a removable drain plug 18.
In using the device, water or any proper fluid is poured into the lower compartment and the balls are inserted through the opening 12 into the openings in the disc. hen the disc is filled with balls, it is rotated by means of the crank, thus passing the balls between the brushes and through the water and thoroughlycleaning them in a rapid and effective manner.
fter the balls have been cleaned, it is a simple matter to punch them out either raising the flap 13 or allowing the flap to be automatically raised by the balls.
It will be seen that a simple type of apparatus is provided which is of cheap construction, which may be made in two half sections, as indicated in Figure 1, and subsequently bolted together in a simple manner.
Further, it will be seen that the device is easy to operate.
Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is intended as illustrative rather than limiting as the invention may be variously embodied and as the scope ofsuch invention is to be determined as claimed.
I claim:
A golf ball cleaner comprising a two part casing, including a lower water compartment and an upper cover portion, laterally projecting bearings at the central portion of said casing, a rotatable shaft mounted in the bearings and extending transversely of the casing, a disc fixed on the shaft rotatable within the casing, said disc having a plurality of apertures therethrough arranged circumferentially thereof, laterally projecting flanges surrounding said apertures for receiving therein golf balls, a crank attached to one end of the shaft for rotating the disc, opposed brush members arranged in the Water compartment and between which the disc passes, the upper portion of said casing having an opening in 19 one side thereof, a movable flap normally closing the opening and said upper portion having an aperture directly opposite the opening for receiving therethrough an object to engage the golf balls to remove them from the disc through the opening.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Menomonee Falls, in the county of- \Vaukesha and State of lVisconsin.
20 CHARLES F. HENRIZI.
