By referring to Figures 8 to 10 inclusive, it will be noted that my invention may be applied for the attachment of means other than tiles, such as forJ instance, the panel applied to the main panel 21 forming the portion ofthe bed-stead and designated generally 22. It is desirable in instances of this kind, especially inthe case of metal beds to provide means for detachably securing the panel 2O without the necessity of drilling or providing bolt ends or other securing means which will project from the inner surface of the bed land consequently present rough and :sharp points or edges to engage and damage the bed clothes. In this instance the deformable brackets 23 may be attached as shown in Figure 9 by spot weld-` ing and presenting the wing portions 24 at right angles to the plane of the main panel of the bed-stead.
The detachable panel is vconstructed as shown in Figure 10 with the four flanges 25 forming the edges andthe internal ribs 26 connected by means of the ends 27 welded to the flanges 25 and provided with slots 28 similar to slots 16 provided in the fianges of thetile shown in Figure 6. The panel thus constructed is positioned over the deformable brackets 23 on the bed-stead end so that the wings 24 will be positioned at the mouth of the slots 28 and in-this position the panel is forced inwardly in a manner to cause the arcuate slots 28 to effect a bending or deformation of the wings, so that an'interlock .will be effected to hold the panel in place, the deformation -occurring by virtue of the movement of the panel directly inwardly into the position in which rit is to be secured.
In operation it will be readily understood, that in applying my invention to the application of tiles, that it is equally well adapted to apply tiles to the ceiling, walls or floors as desired and that instead of a .plurality of individual deformable brackets these may be made from a single piece supplied in the form of a long strip whereby accurate spacing of adjacent pairs of wings will be assured. Y
It is also within the scope of my invention to apply toA the Walls, a flexible strip bearing marks of suitable character to indicate the positionswhere the brackets 12 are to be secured in order to' assure proper spacing for the reception .of'tiles By referring toFigure 3, it will be noted that` each bracket 12 secures two flanges, namely, the top flange of oneftile and the bottomfiange of the tile next above which necessitates that the top of one tile and the bottom edge of the `one next above be applied at the same time. The matter of installing tiles, therefore, is that the bottom of the first tile is applied rst and the top of this tile is subsequently applied simultaneously with the applicationof the bottom of the tile next above.
It is obviously immaterial Whether or not the studs 11 as shown in Figure 1 are used or whether solid wall is used as a securingsurface for the brackets and it is also immaterial whether or not the brackets 12 be vertically disposed, one above the other or placed in a horizontal relationship, the only important feature being that they be positioned relative to each other in a manner to receive the tiles to give a complete smooth surface as shown in Figure 1.
Attention is directed tothe fact that the arcuate slots 16 are provided on all four sides of the tile so that the manner of application is immaterial, it being the same irrespective of which side is presented upwardly. y
The application ofV the detachable panels shown in Figure 10 to the end ofthe bed stead is substantially similar to that described in connection with the application of the tiles, it vmerely being necessary to place the panel in its position slightly spaced from the plane of the main panel and force it vdirectly inwardly in close engagement therewith.
Attention is directed to the `fact that in the case the panel lis used, thellength vof may be moved into an opening which is of a size just sufficient to receive it and the movement of the tile into such a position will cause ldeformation of the attaching bracket to effect the interlock and holding of the'tile in the position in which it is to be secured.
When it is desired to 'detach elements connected according to my invention, it is merely necessary to pull them outwardly in a direction opposite to that of installation and with sufficient force to straighten the attaching Wings. It is my intention to cover the manner of attaching two elements irrespective of their nature and I have described my Ainvention in connectionI with the installation ofv tiles and panels'merely by way of illustration.
I claim:
l. A device of the character described comprising a surface and an element to be` attached against said surface,land a deformable means projecting from said surface, means inside of said element having portions cooperating with said deformable means to form a positive interlock therebetWeen, by deforming said transformable means beyond its elastic limit When said element is caused to approach said plane surface in a direction perpendicular thereto.

Means for attaching tiles comprising a plurality of definitely spaced deformable Wings attached toI a plane surface and slotted flanges on the tiles cooperating with said Wings, said slotted flanges deforming Said Wings beyond their elastic limit to form a positive interlock upon movement of said tile into position. v
