IMPROVEMENT IN DRAFT-EQUALIZERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,727, dated January 25, 1876 application filed July 10, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. H. FR-YE, of Owatonna, in the county of Steele and State of Minnesota, have invented anew and valuable Improvement in Three-Horse Eveners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the con struction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my evener.

My invention relates to eveners used for working three horses abreast; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the pole or fulcrum, the draft-levers of unequal length hinged or pivoted together, and the triple-tree or rear lever connected with said draft-levers, all as hereinafter shown and described.

In the accompanying drawings, A represents the tongue or pole, on top of which is secured an ordinary hammer-strap, B.

G and D represent the two levers of unequal length, the longer lever (J being at its inner end provided with metal straps or plates aone on top and the ether on the bottom.

Between the projecting ends of these straps or plates the inner end of the lever D is pivoted. The long lever 0 is pivoted a suitable distance from its inner end to the pole A, between it and the hammer-strap B.

At the outer end of the long lever O is attached in the usual manner an ordinary double tree, E, with two single-trees, Gr G and to the outer end of the shorter lever D is attached a single-tree, G

A suitable distance back of the levers O D, between the pole and hammerstrap, is pivoted a lever, I, having one long and one short end, the long end being on the same side of the pole as the short lever D, and the short end on the same side as the long lever. The ends ofthelever G are, by top and bottom straps or connecting oblique bars J J, connected with the levers C and D, as shown. The lever 0 forms, in fact, the triple-tree, on which the draft is exerted, and being pivoted out of the center, and arranged as described, the single horse on one side of the pole has the long end of said lever with which to pull back the two horses on the other side.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The lever O, pivoted to the pole, and hav ing its inner end projecting beyond the pole, to which is pivoted the short lever D in line therewith, in combination with the lever I, pivoted to the pole, so that its arms shall be of unequal length, and the oblique bars J J pivoted to the levers I D G, as shown and described.
