Description

UNITED STATES PATENT Orrron.
HENRY W. HOLLON, OF SKANEATELES, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEADACHE REMEDIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,627, dated January 25, 1876; application filed October 19, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY W. HOLLON, of the town of Skaneateles, county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Medical Gompositions, which is fully set forth in this specification.
My invention relates to that class of compositions of matter which are valuable for their medical properties and curative effects; and consists in a medical composition for the alleviation or cure of headache, whether it be caused by gastric disarrangement, the use of intoxicating drinks, any nervous affection, mental or physical excitement, or other cause.
My composition consists of tincture of gentian, one ounce; aromatic spirits of ammonia, one ounce; water, four ounces; bromide of sodium, twenty grains, and tincture lupulin, onehalf ounce.
The ingredients should be mixed, and the mixture should be thoroughly, and, if necessary. repeatedly, filtered.
I do not confine myself to the specified proportions, as in some cases the proportions may be varied, and the same benefits result; but I have found that the proportions stated produce great remedial eifects, and prefer them.
The remedy should be administered in doses of two table-spoonfuls, and repeated at short intervals until improvement is perceptible or the pain is removed.
What I claim, and Wish to secure by Letters Patent, isr A medical composition consisting of gentian and, aromatic spirits of ammonia, bromide of sodium, and tincture of lupulin, as and for the purpose set forth.
' HENRY W. HOLLON.
