This invention relates to circuit closer and is a division of my application, Serial No. 32,303, filed May 23, 1925, relating to signal system.
One of the more important objects of my invention is to provide an alarm initiating device which is cheap to manufacture, can be reset after actuation, as by fire, with a minimum possibility of maladjustment, and one which is positive and reliable in operation.
Further objects, advantages and features of my invention will more fully appear from the detail description below taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows in plan view the preferred form of my improved alarm initiating device with the cover therefor removed.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the alarm initiating device with the cover in place, and
Fig. 3 shows in elevation a cross section through the alarm initiating device along the line 3--3 (see Fig. 2).
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference numeral 1 designates a base of suitable electrical insulating material provided with a supporting post 2. Mounted on and secured to the base 1 are two switch contact members 3 and 4 provided respectively with contact faces 5 and 6. Mounted on andsecured to base 1 is also an electrical conducting member 7 which supports and is electrically connected to a resilient arm member 8 of electrical conducting material. The member 8 terminates in a switch member 9 whic by means presently to be described, is normally held out of electrical contact with the faces 5 and 6 of contact members 3 and 4. The supporting post 2 terminates at its upper end in shouldered boss 10 which is polygonal or irregular shaped in cross section. A disc 11 of readily combustible material such as celluloid, is provided with a central hole shaped to snugly fit the boss 10 to prevent relative rotation of the disc 11 with respect to said boss 10. A downwardly depending projection 12 is formed as a part of the fusible disc 11. This may readily be done by cutting two slits from the edge towards the center of disc 11, at the proper positions, and bending that part of the disc between the two slits at right angles to the plane of the disc as shown. \Vhen the combustible disc is normally in place on the boss 10 of the supporting post 2 the depending projection 12 of said disc serves to hold the switch 9 of the spring contact arm 8 from engagement with contact faces 5 and 6 of members 3 and 4. This projection 12 will hold these electrical contacts out of engagement until the combustible disc is removed or destroyed, as by fire.
A closure member 13 is provided with a series of holes 13 around its periphery to expose the combustible disc 11 to the surrounding atmosphere. This closure member is preferably held in place by a central screw 14 which fits into a threaded hole in the post 2. This screw 14 also serves to hold the combustible disc in position on the shouldered boss 10. It will be noted that the removal of the screw 14 permits easy access to all parts of the device. The wires which serve to connect parts 3, 4 and 7 to the various circuits of the alarm system are adapted to enter through suitable perforations provided in the base 1, and are suitably connected to these several parts as by one of the screws which secures these parts to the base. It will also be noted that contact is made between members 3, 4 and '9, when the device is actuated, in such a manner that a scraping or wiping action takes place between the member 9 on the one hand and the members 3 and 4 on the other. This insures that any dirt or accumulation on these members is disturbed or removed thus assuringa proper contact between said members.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have devised a new form of circuit closer. It is to be expressly understood however,
that the device li'erein illustrated, described and claimed is merely the preferred embodiment of my invention. Accordingly I do not limit myself to the exact construction illustrated and described as many changes may be made in point of detail and other embodiments resorted to without deviating from the true spirit and scope of my 1nvention.
What I claim is:
1. In an alarm initiating device, a supporting base, a plurality of electrical contact members mounted on said base, a contacting alarm initiating arm fastened to one of the said contact members and adapted to come into sliding frictional contactwith-one or more of theother contact members, and a readily combustible 5 link adapted to hold the said contacting carm out of engagement with the last mentioned contact members, and a perforated cover for said combustible link and said contacts,-and means comprising a single screw for holding said cover and-saidfusible link in position.
2. A renewable link for fire alarm circuit closers comprising a mounting post and a pair of contacts biased together, said link comprising :a disc of combustible material having an opening for mounting on said :post, and carrying thereon an arm for main itaining said contacts spaced apart.

A renewable link for fire alarm circuit closers comprising a mounting postof non- -circular cross-section, and a pair of spring 'contactsibiased together, said ilink comprising a disc of combustibletmaterial having an opening 'therein corresponding to the cross- :section of said mounting post, and-carrying -thereon a depending arm for maintaining said-contacts spaced apart.
