appucation x11-ea- August' s, 1925. serial' No. 47,770:
My invention irelates t rotary pumps or motors disclosed and claimed-.in-my. prior Patents No. 1,515,192 issued of date Novemvber 11, 1924and No. 1,531,904, issuedof date March 31, 1925 and entitled Rotary pump.
The present invention is particularly directed to a duplex arrangement of pump mechanism of my prior patents and wherein a single rotor or annular member is provided with oppositely projected sets .of circumferentially spaced teeth or vanes that engage the teeth of co-operating pinions that rotate on an axis eccentric to that of the rotorg In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like 'characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring -to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation showing the improved pump; l. l
Fig.` 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is -a vertical section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
4 is an elevation looking at the inner face of one of the cylinder heads and Fig. 5 is an elevation 'showing the rotor, pinions, cylinder heads and shaft drawn axially apart but in axial alignment.
` The numeral 6 indicates a cylindrical pump casing having a flanged base by means o'f which it may be anchored. Thiscasing 6 is provided with a radial intake port 7 and a radial discharge port 8, s hown'asconnected, respectively, to intake and discharge pipes 7 a and 8*. Cylinder heads 9 are rigidly b ut detachably secured to the flanged ends of the' 6 by suitable means such as n'iaf chine' screws 9f. A power-driven shaft 10," the axis of which is at the axis of the inteii or the cylindrical casing 6, is extended through said 4casing, throughahub 11 inthe one cylinder head aridi-rita ahb 1'2 the' other cylinder head. The hub 11,' as'sho'ivn5 is provided with a. packing l `larid i3 while the dater edd of the hub 12 is cld'sd. The -,'y1in i e1-` heads 9 inthe-ir iiiiiei faces' are prdvidai4 with cylindrical hearing habs; 14 that are eccentric to shaft 10 sind intendi of 'extentie df the hubs 14 and theexteridsdf which sie donc-enteric tdthe cyiiiidritl @redacties applied tu the hubs 11 and 12.
Rotatably mounted within thecylindrical surface of the 'casing' is 'a rotorcomprising a central ring or annular portion 16 'provided with oppositely pr0jected set`sjf,.cin cumferentially spaced -teeth or vane's The central ring portion 16 isextended,ftOlf. v
the .shaft -1() "and, asshown, is connected thereto by'a key 18. Also 1it is important to i. note that, asillustrated, the-ring` 16 worksi. closely against the Yinner endsof the. axially alignedhubs 14and that the teeth or vanes 17 run against the cylindrical interior fofthe y casing and-.over the exterior of the crescentshaped partitions :15.-A -Rot-atably' mounted 0nthe eccentric hubs 14 are piniils 19; .the teeth of which intermesh =witlr th'eteeth- 17 of. the
rotor and run. in 'close .engagement with the concave surface?o'thecrescent-shaped partitions 15. In the preferred arrangement, and as jillustrate'd in the drawings, .theteethof the..- pinions 19 andtheteeth- 17 of the rotor -are A obliquely .set in respect to planes that radiate from the axesof the pinions .and rotor.4 By reference particularly to Fig. 5' it will be noted that the teeth of one` pinionare reversely oblique in respect to the other and that the teeth on the one side of the rotor are revers'ely. obliquein respect to theteeth on the other side. This neutralizes all driving forces-that-rnigl1t-tend to press the rotor axially iii the one direction vmore than in the other. Also, the teeth O 'n'theopposite side of the rotr'are preferably 'staggered or set circumfriitially, the one ahead of the other, sots toieiidtr more eiistant or unvarying the delivery f'wate'r out of the dischai-gdpssge of the pump.
In 2 aiid- 5- the' iinerl 2O indicates with the affari-gedient described it is' evident that when the ot'o'r is `rotated in t dldclii'visadifctioa iii; respect tu Fig. 2 that water hedwii iiithroughintake port 7 iid pipe 7i and will be forced oiitwr'd tiifgh 'di-schare ptitv va and pipa a, -Ppw drive t pump is assumed td be trasiiiittd tiifadghith Ashift 1o mit it win he iiiidiftad that ifjvater under' pressen shld, be fircjed hito the Humplthiough pipe 7 and part 7 sd datt 1ifdii'gh port s and the 'device iid d their be inverted iiitd affitti. iiidti ad; the Shaft 1 0 would iastate the fd passage of the water lVhat I -claim is:
1. In alrotary pump, a cylindrical casing having heads, ashaft extending axially into the casing, a rotor havin" a central web portion rigidly secured to tieshaft.. said rotor having two sets of opposite'ly directed relatively staggered and reversely oblique teeth extending longitudinally from .said web portion, said heads having eccentric hubs extendingto said web portion,and apair ot' pinions loosely journaled on said hubs and engaging the aligned teeth of the rotor, said heads having formed' therewith eres# cent-shaped partitions interposed in the spacev between the separated teeth of the pinion and rotor. v
