adapt a guard for stabilizing the heater and retaining the switch and heatingelement, and to provide a compact unitary assembly comprising a relatively small number of parts.
In accomplishing these and other objects I have provided improved details of structure, the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein: f 7 Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a heater constructed according to my invention, the left half of the face plate being broken away to illustrate the mounting of .the heating element and switch.

Referring in detail to the drawings: ljdesignates a heater comprising a drum 2 having longitudinal, internal grooves 3, and a heating element 4 including radial blades 5 slidably mounted in the grooves and coils 6 circularly arranged in o enings 7 of the blades and supported there y.
- Leg plates 8 extend from the periphery of the drum and' are preferably integral therewith and in parallel and spaced relation with each other, the front vertical edge 9 of the legs extending in the plane of the front end or edge 10 of the drum. The legs have feet 11 extending rearwardly parallel with the axis of the drum, and a shelf-like Web-12 connects the legs and is.located adjacent the lower end of the legs in spaced relationwith the drum, to form therewith a switch-receiving chamber 133 A switch 14 is adapted for positioning in the chamber with its face portion 15 projecting forwardly beyond the front end of the drum, and a housing-like bracket 16 adapted to lfit into said chamber comprises a sheet of metal bent to conform to the size and shape of the legs and to provide laterally extending flanges or wings 17 to overlierthe vertical edges of the legs, whereby I.the bracket may be retained in engagement with the legs by a guard or face plate 18 presently particularly described. The drum is provided with an opening 19 to receive wires 20 extending from the switch for energizing the heating element.
The face plate '18 has a guard portion 21 provided with Vopenings 22, the guard portion lbeing preferably a ring-like member and the openings being formed by bars 23 extending across the ring opening. The guard portion has a peripheral lug 24 adapted for engagement with a similar pe- .ripheral lug 25 on the front portion of the drum, each lug having an opening to receive a fastening member such as a bolt 26. l
The face plate further comprises a stabilizing and switch-retaining portion 27 having laterally extending wings 28 adapted to project beyond the legs and feet of the drum-supporting structure, and an opening 29 for mounting the face plate over the front end of the switch, so that the face of the switch may lie substantially in the plane of the plate. An annular boss 30 is provided on the plate around the opening for aditional bearing area for the switch.
The stabilizing portion of the face plate' is adapted to overlie theleg-engaging wings of the switchhousin bracket, and vis secured to the legs by bolts 31 extending through openings 32 in the face plate and openings 33 in lateral lugs- 34 of the legs.
A screen such as a wire disk 35 is mounted in the front end of the drum and retained within the drum by the face plate when the latter is mounted as just described.
A fan 36 is mounted on a motor 37 and the motor is supported coaxially with the heater on a boss 38 of a frame 39' having forwardly extending ears 40 adapted to overlie the periphery of the drum andattached thereto by bolts 41, the frame pref.- erably supporting the fan within the drum for driving a column of air over the heating element. A screen 42 is mounted in the rear end of the drum with its periphery retained between the frame and the drum.
A. wire 43' leads from the switch to the fan motor for controlling the fan.
The frame Apreferably includes a peripheral ring 44 adapted to overlie the rear end; edge of thedrum, for clamping the screen 42 to the drum, andthe screen 'is preferablyy supported in a ring 45 having an inwardly extending inner offset flange 46 forming a shoulder 47 for'engagement with the inner surface of the drum, the screen being at 'tached to the outer face of said inner flange 46. c
Attention is called to the position of drum openings 48 to receive `the bolts 4l, whereby the bolts extend into the drum in alignment with the horizontal blade 5"'v of the heater, to serve as stop members for spacing the heating element from the fan when the heating element is moved into position in the drum.
'Ih'e parts being provided as described, it is apparent that a heating element may easily be mounted in the drum, the switch attached to the bracket and the bracket p0- sitioned in the chamber. The face plate y may then be attached to the drum and the cent the heating element, and a supporting legs to retain the screen, guard the front opening of the drum, support the switch bracket and retain it in firm engage ment with the legs, and stabilize the drum in leg-supported position. The face plate provides a closure for the switch housing and supportsthe front end of the switch. V'Ihe fan frame may then be mounted on the drum 'and secured thereto, theA suitable wire connections being assumed, and the entire device will comprise a portable unit which may be positioned in any desired relation to an area to be heated.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a heater, a drum, meanssupporting the drum, a heating element mounted in the drum, a frame removably attached to one end of the drum for supporting al fan adjaard late removably attached to the other end o the drum and having stabilizing portions engaged with the drum-supporting means.
2. In a heater, a drum having legs integral therewith and adapted for supporting the drum from a surface, a heating element mounted in the drum, and a face plate having a guard portion engaged with the drumind -a stabilizing portion engaged withthe egs. ,t l
3. In a heater, a drum, legs having spaced feet extending parallel With the axis of the ,drum for supporting the same, a heating element mounted in the drum, and a face plate comprising a guard portion removably attached tothe'dum and a stabilizing portionl extending at right anglesfto said feet and attached to` the legs.
4. In a heater, a drum having spaced legs extending from one edge thereof, a shelf connecting the legs and spaced from the drum to form a switch chamber, and a face plate removably attached to the drum to close one end thereof and overlying the legs to form a wall' of said chamber, the plate an opening for communication with the lchamber. In a heater, a drum adaptedto contain a heating element, and having open ends, laterally spaced legs attached to the periphery of the drum and having vertical front edges aligned `with the front end ofthe drum, a switch bracket having lateral wings adapted to overlie said vertical edges of the legs, and a face plate adapted to overlie the front end of the drum and for connection with the legs to retain the bracket wings in engagement with the legs.
7. In a device of the character described including a drum and a screen, an annulus having an oifset internalange forming a shoulder engageable with the inner surface of the drum for supporting the screen, and
