Application filed. January 20,1927. Serial No. 162,294.
A further object of the invention is to pro vide a tile of the locking type having a plurality of re-inforcing partitions.
And a still further object of the invention is to provide a building tile of the locking type which is simple, economical and durable.
Vith these ends in View the invention embodies, a building tile having a plurality of openings therethrough, a plurality of locking members extending upward from the upper surface and a plurality of openings in the opposite surface for receiving the locking members of the adjoining tile.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description, taken in connection with the drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view showing a detail of the tile.
Figure 2 is a View showing the tile as it would appear in use.
In the drawings the tile is shown as it would be made, wherein numeral 1 indicates the body of the tile, numeral 2 the locking projections at the upper edge of the tile and numeral 3 the recesses in the lower edge of the tile which receive the projections of the adjoining tile.
The tile 1 may be made of a rectangular shape as shown with an upper wall 4, a transverse partition 5 and thickened side walls 7 and 8. The lower part of the tile is formed with members 9 and 10 at the sides and a central member 11 thereby leaving spaces for the recesses 3 and at the same time providing bearings at the edges and also at the center for the base of the tile. All of the portions of the tile are provided with openings 12 which extend through the entire length. The members 2 and the recesses 3 are tapered as shown to insure a positive lock.
It will be understood that changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention, one of which changes ma be in the exact shape or location of the members 2 or of the corresponding recesses 3, another may be in the shape or location of the openings 12 and still another may be in the general design of the tile.
The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. In use the tile may be placed upon a wall as shown in Figure 2 and it will be observed that the pro jections 2 may be placed in recesses 3 of the adjoining tile to insure a positive lock. It will also be observed that as the larger proportion of the load of the wall is at the center the tile is provided with a bearing at the center to receive this load. The plurality of locking members also provide a more evenly distributed load and insure a positive lock between the tiles.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A wall structure combining a plurality of horizontally disposed interlocking hollow building blocks, each having horizontal top and bottom walls, vertical connecting side walls, and partitions, and a horizontal wall forming a partition about midway of the blocks, said blocks having continuous openings extending therethrough between the said partitions and walls, the bottom wallof each block being omitted at two points between respective pairs of partitions thereby provid ing remaining sections of the bottom wall forming bearing surfaces at the sides and in the center, the side walls of the open spaces provided by the omission of the sections of the bottom wall being tapered and converging toward the bottom; the top wall of the said blocks having vertical walls extending upward therefrom in a plurality of sets with the walls of each set connected at the top by horizontal walls and the outer surface of the walls of the said sets being tapered and convering downward thereby providing tongues with openings extending therethrough on top of the said blocks adaptable to engage the openings in the lower sides of a succeeding block formed by the omission of the sections of the said bottom plate.
