Our invention relates to a machine for forming grooves or stripes in fur by cutting the hair on given lines of simulating a fur article made up from for ornamental purposes.
The general object of our invention is to provide a novel and practical machine for producing grooves or stripes as referred to.

In carrying out our invention in practice in accordance with the illustrative example, a suitable frame 10 is provided, on the top 11 of which is a bed 12, adjustable forward and back by means which in the illustrated example are as follows: An angle bracket 13 is secured to the top 11 as by bolts screw 15 passes through the upstand g member of said bracket 13 and end has threaded engagement with the bed 12 atthe rear edge. The screw 15 adjacentthe bed 12 has a set nut 16, and set nuts 17, 18 are disposed on the screw at opposite sides of bracket 13, said nuts serving to hold the screws 15 and bed 12 in adjusted position.

The shaft- 29 driven by any suitable means, being shown as drive pulley 32, which in practice is adapted to receive power from any coin vement source.
The means provided to feed the fur A to cutter means, and in illustrated example is advantageously employed, is an endless traveling carrier beltturning about suitable rollers, one of which rollers, designated is adjacent to the cutting edges of the knives 2 1 and the teeth of the cutters 28. The cutting means is so arranged as to form gr oves in the fur, for which purpose the cutte 28, in the example shown in Figures .ced the distance at which it is desirco t oi-1n the grooves. its the fur is caused to move with the belt about the elongated pulley the fur is caused to be disposed radially by said pulley and in a manner to extend beyond the rotary path of movement of the cutting edges of the cutters 28. As said fur continues to travel it wipes past the cutting edges of the cutters 21 so u the cutters 28, wiich revolve more 1y than the speed of the feed of the iur by the belt 33, serve to cut grooves in the fur the depth of the groove being the desired depth to which the cutter means and llliVJ YORK, N. 1 ASSIGNGRS TO A. HOLLANDER the roller 34 is adjusted. Said roller turns in bearings in slide blocks 35 supported by angle brackets 36 on the frame 10. The bearing blocks 35 are held adjustably by bolts or screws 135 passing through slots 235 in said blocks.
In the form shown in Figure 5, a cutter, designated generally by the numeral 40, has spiral blades 41 which revolve in a. path to coact with the fixed knives or bed knives 121 by any suitable clamping means, there being shown a clamping bar 122, it being understood that the knives 121 are fastened and adjusted in the same manner as the knives 21.
Any desired number of cuttingelements may be employed as desired to produce a particular number of grooves or stripes.
We would state furthermore that while the illustrated examples constitute practical embodiments of our invention, we do not limit ourselves strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same 7 can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
We claim:
1. A fur grooving machine including driven grooving knives, bed knives coacting with the grooving knives, and feed means to carry the fur to be grooved to a point to be acted upon by said cutting knives.
2. A fur grooving machine including fixed, bed knives, revolving cutter means coacting with said bed knives, the bed knives being spaced a predetermined distance apart according to the distance at which the grooves are to be spaced.
3. A fur grooving machine including fixed bed knives, revolving cutter means coasting with said bed knives, the-bed knives being spaced a predetern'iined distance apart according to the distance at which the grooves are to be spaced, and a traveling fur carrier.
4-. A fur grooving machine including a frame, a bed adjustable on said frame, separate spaced bed knives supported on said bed, cutter means coacting with said bed knives to groove the fur, and means to adjust said bed on the frame.
5. A fur grooving machine including a frame, a bed adjustable on said frame, separate spaced bed knives supported on said bed, cutter means coacting with said bed knives to groove the fur, and means to adjust said bed on the frame, together with means to adjust the bed knives lengthwise and transversely.
(5. A fur groovin machine including a tllle, a bed adjustable on said frame, separate spaced bed knives supported on said bed, cutter means coacting with said bed knives to groove the fur, means to adjust said bed on the frame, together with means to adjust the bed knives lengthwise and transversely, and set screws to hold the bed knives in adjusted position.
7'. In a fur grooving machine, a frame, a bed adjustable'on said frame,'a depending bracket on said bed, separate spaced knives supported on said bracket, means to adjust the kniveson the bracket, and cutter means coacting with the bed knives to form grooves in the fur.
