Applicationfiled May- 9, 1927. Serial No. 189 ,969.
My present improvements relates to the type of visible card index or holder shown in my application for Letters Patent No. 151,093, filed November 21, 1926', the same being an adaptation and in some respects an improvement upon the structure there disclosed.
The main object of tlii's invcntlon is to provide an apparatus of the class described in which the. sheet or card holders are supported so that they may be adjusted and retained in adjusted positions on the sup portand relative to each other.
A further object is large number of sheets or cards may be eifectively supported and displayed, and sheets added thereto or removed therefrom as occasion may require.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention wilh appear from the description to follow. The invention 18 defined in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which: I
Fig, 1 is a perspective view of a binder of the loose leaf type containing a plurality of sheet-like supports. or features of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary plan V16W of a pair of units disposed inproper relation to permit the shifting of the sheet holders from one of the units to the'other;
Fig. 2 is a top edge, with the releasin bars omitted.
Fig. 3 is an on one of. the units, the hinged thereof being omitted.
Fig. i is a detail section on" line 4- of Fig. 2 showing details of the hold'er and the relation of the sheet-attaching members thereto.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of one of the holders, a fragment of a sheet being shown in opera- 'tive relation thereto.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail view illustratbinding I flap the sheet holders with the, support.
Fig. 7 is an enlarged detail section on line 7-7 of Fig. 2, the sheet'being omitted- Fig. 8 is a fragmentary section on line 8=-8 of Fig. 7 illustrating the means of re to provide a sheet 15 holder which is of large capacity, that 15, a
units embodying the view of a support arged lower edge view ofmg the manner of engaging and disengaging F leasing the holders to permit their sliding adjustment on their supports.
' Referring to the drawing. 1 represents a loose sheet binder provided with binding or clamping bars 2. As the details olt the binder form no part of the invention they are not illustrated herein.
The binder is adapted to receive a plurality of units designated generally by the numeral 3', these units being provided with binding flaps l. Each unit, as illustrated, carries two sets or series of sheet or card holders, one on each face.
In the embodiment illustrated the units comprise a plate-like body 5 having spaced pairs of bars 6 secured to the sides thereof, the inner edges of the bars being rabbotcd to coact. with the plate, providing spaccd groove-like ways 7 facing toward each other. Between these bars 6 and in spaced relation thereto are mounted inner bars or plates 8 which are spaced to provide the forwardly facing central groove-like ways 9. One of each pair of bars 8 is provided with a series of spaced alined holes 10.
The holders 11 which are formed of spring sheet material have inwardly oil'sct ends 12 engageable with and slidable in the ways 7 These holders also have pairs of inwardly projecting lugs 13 which engage the groove 9, thereby supporting the bars against swinging movement when the lugs are engaged, preventing binding and also accidental disengagement.
The holders are provided with inwardly projecting pins 1d engageable with the holes 10, therebysupporting the holders against sliding movement when these pins are ongaged'. To release or disengage the pins or to permit sliding adj ustmcnt of the holders, I provide a flat releasing bar 15 which is pivoted at its ends at 16 and provided near one end with a'fingcr piece 17 which permits the bar being swung to a vertical plane shown in Fig. 7, disengaging the pins so that the holders may be shifted in their supporting ways.
With the pins disengaged as shown in 7, any selected holder may be removed by springing to disenga e one end and then shifting laterally, and tiey may be inserted by a reverse movement, or the holders mav be separated and additional holders inscrte Further, the holders maybe spaced as desired, that isawhen it is desired to remove a holder for any purpose, the'sp'ace' which'it occupies is left blank as the holders are in-' dividually retained against sliding movement. a
Each sheet holder is provided witha sheetattaching member 18 which has intu'rned hooks 19 at its ends adapted to engage holes 20 in a card or sheet 21. The attaching member has pivots 22 engaging the knuckles 23 which are disposed centrally of the holdor 11 so that the springingof the holder does not effect the attaching member andthe attaching member does not prevent springing substantially as shown in my said application.
I have illustratedand describedlny improvements in an embodiment which I consider very satisfactory, I have not attempted to illustrate and describe certain modifications and adap'tations'which I contemplate as I believe this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt my improvements-as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by ,Let-
tcrs Patent is:
