L. L. FUNK EJZZAQE CAP FOR RECEPTACLES Filed Aug. 18, 1923 ceptacle and by means of which a. small quanp Patented July 30, 1929..,
LEVI L. FUNK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CAP FOB. RECEPTACLLES.
Application filed August 18, 1928. Serial No. 300,601.
This invention relates to a cap for closing receptacles, as say, bottles, flexible tubes, and the like.
Among the objects of the invention is to obtain a screw threaded cap which lits corresponding screw threads on the neck of a retity of Huid or plastic material may be made to flow from the receptacle, without removing the cap from said neck. i
In the drawing which illustrates a cap embodying the invention7 Fig. 1 is an elevation of the upper end and neck of a receptacle, with a cap also' shown in elevation on said neck.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the cap which is illustrated in Fig. 1 and i Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the neck of a receptacle and a cap embodying the invention thereon, taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2, viewed as indicated by arrows.
A reference character applied to designate a given part indicates said part throughout the several figures of the drawing, wherever the sameappears.
l illustrates the upper end of a receptacle, and 2 the neck thereof. 3 illustrates the ordinary screw threads on neck 2, where a screw threaded cap is applied as a closure. 4 represents 'a cap which is provided with screw threads 5 on the cylindrical part thereof, fitting on screw threads 3. 6, 7 respectively represent apertures inthe cylindrical part of cap 1, adjacent to the substantially flat end of the cap. 8 and 9 represent lips which are forced out from the cylindrical part of cap 1, in making apertures 6, 7, respectively. 10 represents a lip substantially like lips 8, 9, which is also forced out from the cylindrical part of cap 1,-leaving an aperture substantially like apertures 6, 7. Lip 10 in place of being forced outwardly, as are lips 8, 9, is forced inwardly, for a purpose about to be described. A plurality of lips 10 may be forced inwardly from the cylindricalI part of cap 1, if preferred, in the same way a plurality of lips 8, 9, are obtained. 11 represents a disk preferably Inade of leather or other suitable material, asfabric. 12 represents a disk, which is preferably made of soft or ductile metal.
VWhen disk 12 is forced down on to the upper edge of the neck of the receptacle discharge of liquid or semi-liquid from the neck is prevented, the neck being thereby tightly closed; and when the cap is turned to loosen it from the neck, disk 12 being loosened from the neck by lip 10, liquid will flow from the aperture 6, or 7, the receptacle being properly tilted. If the receptacle be a tube of ductile lmetal, and the cap be loosened by turning 1t slightly on the neck thereof, semi liquid contents of the receptacle can be forced from the receptacle through apertures 6, 7, or one thereof if there be but'one, by pressure on the tube, or. other receptacle.
The purpose of lip or lips l() is to loosen disk 12 from the upper end or edge of the neck of the receptacle when the cap is loosened therefrom by a partial turn thereof on said neck, and for this purpose the tip or end ofI the lip is positioned underneath the disk, near the periphery thereof.
.Also, when the receptacle is made of ductile metal and is filled witlia semi-liquid mass such semi-liquid may be forced from the aperture or apertures made by-forcing lips 10 out from the cylindrical part of the cap; and vin this case a plurality of lips 10 may be substituted for lips 8 and 9, if preferred.
I claim:
1. A cap provided with a screw threaded cylindrical part adapted to lit on a correspondingly screw threaded neck of a receptacle, a disk in said cap, said cylindrical part provided with apertures and lips to said apertures, one of said lips adapted to hold said disk in a determined position in said cap, and one thereof adapted to form aspout to onegof said apertures, all in combination.
2. A cap provided with a screw threaded cylindrical part adapted to fit on a correspondingly screw'threaded neck of a receptacle, in combination with a disk in said cap,
said cylindrical'part provided with a lip eX-
