Description
J'. B. 0 KEY.
HARROW. Y 110.172,158. Patented Jan. 11,1875.
OZ Win essa'. In venan' MW www/j@ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPHB. OKEY, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO JOHN M. WHEATLEY, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARROWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,158, dated January 11, 1876; application filed November 4, 1875.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH B.`OKEY, of Indianapolis, in the county of MariorrY and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Harrows, of which the following is a specification:
In the annexed drawings making a part ot' this specification, Figure l is a perspective View, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal and vertical section.
The same letters are employed in both tigures in the indication of identical parts.
Ais the triangular frame of the harrow, and B the teeth. Across the frame are three transverse bars, C, which, instead of being rectangular, are made with the front face inclined, forming, with the bottom, an acute angle. This angle, in part or all of them, I arm with a sharp iron or steel bar, the object being to break up the clods and smooth the surface of the ground subjected to the action of the harrow. Theteeth are formed as shown, A having flat sides, and curved in front, to form cutting-points, the bottom of the tooth being The draft is applied to the beam horizontal.
D, pivoted to standards in the middle of the rear beam of the frame A,.and having the front end extending through a yoke, E, having holes, through which apin may be passed to iix the inclination of the beam.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
1. Harrow-teeth B, flat upon their sides, and having the front edge inclined to form acute points, substantially as set forth.
2. In combination with the teeth, inclined on their front edges to open and throw up the earth, the horizontal sharp-edged cutters C', for breaking up the clods, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence oi' two subscribing witnesses.
