Modern merchandising methods require therapid dispensing of large quantities of many small items, such as candies, toilet articles, small hardware items, and such like material, with a minimum expenditure of.

time and labor on the part of the salesman. It is required in order to promote therapid eflicient sale of them, that the articles sold be kept in good order, with the bins nearly full, and that protection be provided against dust and injury to the articles, and also against any other injury such as tampering and loss. These requirements necessitate a compact, inexpensive cabinet, with provision for the convenientsubdivision into a plurality of adjustable bins, and with provision for the use of subpositioned filler members to take the place of removed stock, in order that the cabinet may not show nearly empty bins as the stock is sold out. It is further required that some means he provided for the protection ofthe stock against dust, tampering and pilfering.

My invention provides a simple, inexpensive, dispensing cabinet as disclosed in my copending application Serial No. 172,269 filed March3, 1927, in combination with a simple, 'convenient, and easily removable, covering means comprising a cooperating frame readily attachable to the structure previously disclosed, and providing a pair of guideways and a pair of sliding glass panes positioned therein, adapted to cover and protect the dispensable stock. By my in- .vention I am enabled to provide a simple, convenient, inexpensive, durable cabinet, with sliding glass panes for protection of the stock, in combination with means whereby the bins are readily adjustable in dimensions to the size of thearticles stored therein, and whereby the top surface of the stock of goods is maintained near the top of the bin and near the under surface of the glass, for convenientinspection by a prospective purchaser without the necessity for uncovering the stock until the sale is made.

My invention further'provides a frame member 14 adapted to fit inside'of the cabinet portion as previously described, by a simple, snug friction lit. The upper edge of the frame member 14 is bent to form channels 15 and 16 as shown, forming sets, within which are positioned the panes of glass 17 and 18. The panes are superposed one above the other in the grooves and are,

in length, little over half of the length of the cabinet, that is, they are in extent only a fraction longitudinally of the top opening.

They are accordingly adapted to slide from side to side of the cabinet in their superposed position. The glass panes are desirably. provided with appropriate finger grips, which may be openings made into the glass at suitable points, or may be metal handles bolted in place through holes in the glass. By the preferred embodiment, the glass panes are mounted directly within the grooves in the frame and may, if desired,

7 be provided with a felt padding to facilitate the moving therein; Alternatively,

j where it is found necessary to provide further protection to the glass, the panes may be mounted in metal subframes which in turn are adapted to slide within the grooves in the main frame. In this embodiment suitable handles may be provided in connection with the metal frame.

The cover frame 14 is desirably made in two parts one part comprising three sides thereof, and another part comprising the fourth side. This is convenient for the ready removal and insertion of the glass panes, both at the time of assembly and in the event that the glass is broken and needs replacement as may happen. in the course of usage. The fourth side is desirably held in placeby a screw at each end cooperating with corner block members having threaded 'openingstherein, asshown in detail in Figs.

5 and 6.

lVhile I have shown but a single embodiment of the device of my invention in the accompanying description, it is capable of various modifications therefrom without'departing from the spirit thereof and it' is desired, therefore, that only such limitations shall be imposed thereon as are required by the prior art or indicated by the appended claim.

I claim as my invention:

In a display cabinet, in combination: a

hollow frame formed by side walls, a front wall. and a rear wall, a bottom wall, and a partial level top wall forming a table, said front wall being lower in hei ht than said rear wall and said side walls being formed on the upper edgeto slope from the top of the front wall to a point slightly below the top wall vertically below the front edge of the top wall; a longitudinal partition extending down into the space of the frame depending from the front edge of the partial top wall; a frame member having depending flanges and formed with sets of slide channels resting upon'the side walls and front wall and abutting the said vertical partition and glass panes, one fitting in each of the sets of channels, each pane being in extent only a fraction longitudinally of the top opening of the frame.
