Description
A. HARDY.
PAPER-CUTTING MACHINE. No.172,020. Patented Jan.11,18'76;
N, PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER WASHINGTON n c UNITED STATES ANSON HARDY, OF AUBURNDALE, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER-CUTTING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 72.020, dated January 11, 1876; application filed May 14, 1875. v
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANSON HARDY, of Auburndale, in the county of Middlesex and State 1 which form a part of this specification:
My invention relates to an improved method of operating and adjusting the table or bed of paper cutting machines, so that it can be moved with ease and precision, free from any hitching or other irregularity of motion, in a parallel direction to the beam on which the cutting-blade is attached or moved, and which holds the said table or bed securely at any desired point without other fastening.
Figure 1 is an oblique view of the frame of a machine on which rests and moves the carriage A, to which is attached the wooden table or bed B, as shown in Fig. 2.
On the carriage A .is a cross-bar, (l, on which is cut or cast a worm-thread, E, operated by the hand-wheel F; and having its hearings in the frame of the machine is a rod or shaft, 1), on which is cut a screw-thread, matching and working into the worm-thread on the bar 0, and thus moving the table or bed,'on'which rests the stock to be cut, back and forth in a plane parallel to the cutting-edge, with greater precision and smoothness than by any other means, thereby obviating throwing out of jog the pile of paper, pamphlets, or books which is placed in position to be out, and materially enhancing the usefulness and value of the machine.
The relative position of the screw-shaft D to the worm-bar G is such, as of itself to fasten or hold the table or bed B in any desired position securely against being moved, save only by turning the screw-shaft D at the will of the operator.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the screw-shaft D, the bar 0, and the worm-thread E on the frame or carriage A, and the table or bed B, so that when operated the said table or bed will move with ease and precision in a plane parallel to the cutting-edge, substantially as described.
ANSON HARDY.
