Description
June 25, 19295 J. KLEFFMAN SNARE Original Filed July 30, 1927 Patented June 25, 1929.
JOHN KLEFFMAN, OF I-IIIBBING, MINNESOTA.
SNARE,
Refilcc'l for abandoned application Serial No. 209,521, filed July 30, 1927. This application filed. March 14, 1929. Serial No. 347,143.
This invention relates to an improvement in snares.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a novel form of exceptionally etlicient device of this character.
Other objects of the invention will. appear in the further description thereof. M
Referring now to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this application, and wherein like reference cha act'ers indicate like parts:
The illustration is a perspective view of the catch as applied to a fragmental portion of the snare adjacent the noose of same.
In this instance the material. of which the snare is composed is a chain of either straight or twisted links, the former being illustrated, and that portion indicated at 1 is the portion which leads to a fixed stake or other anchorage, while the portions 2 and 3 are of the noose in which the animal is intended to be caught.
The catch in the snare comprises the L shaped metal clip designated by the numerals 4t and 5, the portion 5 having a hole therethrough as at 6, said hole being slightly larger than the chain so that the latter will freely pay therethrough axially, and the port-ion 4 of the clip is formed with the large rectangularly' shaped opening 7, this being so formed for convenient insertion of the crossbar 8 on the terminal of that portion of the chain indicated at 3 and which when once threaded through the hole 7 cannot be withdrawn therefrom normally, but necessitating specific manipulation of the bar for such purpose. The bar is preferably of greater depth through the center than at the ends which assists in its more secure positioning when the noose 0f the chain is drawn taut.
The thickness of material of which the clip 4E5 is made is such in relation to the length of the links of the chain that the latter can be drawn readily therethrough only axially or substantially so, as when positioned otherwise in the hole or at an angle to the axis thereof the same will become bound therein as clearly shown in the drawings. Thus when anything is caught within the noose and the chain pulled tightly therethrough it will so remain until loosened manually, resulting in a very effective catch for a snare and one that will hold firmly any tightening of the noose, and as quickly and humanely as possible kill the animal caught, unless, as previously described, the links of the chain are of abnormal length, when the animal will be firmly held alive.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A catch for a chain snare comprising an L-shaped clip having a round hole in one end and a rectangular hole in the opposite end, a bar pivotally attached to one terminal of the chain for selective engagement with the rectangular hole and the opposite end of the chain being payed through the round hole.
2. The combination with a chain snare of the character described of a clip therefor having a hole therein through which the chain payed, said hole being of a size and the clip of a thickness which results in the binding of a link within said hole when assuming a material angle to the axis of the hole.
3. Thecombination with a chain snare of the character described, of a clip therefor having a hole therein through which the chain is payed, said hole being of a size to result in the binding of a link therein when assuming a material angle to the axis of the hole.
l. In a chain snare for quickly killing an animal, a catch having a hole in one end to which an end of the chain is attached, and a hole in the opposite end through which the chain is payed, said hole being of a size to cause the chain to become bound therein when pulled taut about an object.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOHN KLEFFMAN.
