KONRAD ZICK, OF FURTH, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM IBITEOHSPIELWARE-N FABRIK JOHANN DISTLER, OF NUREMIBERG, BAVARIA, GERMANY.
DEVICE FOR PRODUCING COLOR AND LIGHT EFFECTS.
Application filed October 25, 1927, Serial No. 228,649, and in Germany June 25, 1927.
My present invention has for its object a device for producing color and light effects as used for toys, toy novelties and advertising purposes, the luminous effects being of a constantly changing nature.
The devices of this kind hitherto known are provided with pieces of pyrophoric ma terial by means of which sparks are produced during the rotation of a disc bearing different colors.
By the present invention the color' and light effects are obtained by avoiding the well known means, so that a pleasing and changing impression may be produced by using simple elements. The device for producing the color and light effects consists in transparent discs of different colors being provided in the circumference of a wall arranged vertically to a horizontally mounted reflector revolving loosely, on its axis, so that the rays entering through the colored discs strike on the surface of the said reflector and the combination of colors produced by the colored rays becomes visible from above. For this purpose the reflector is formed on its upper surface to provide corrugations or any like recesses, so that a manifold reflection of the entering rays and a pleasing impression of color combinations is obtained. The device may be executed in such a manner that the colored discs are turnably mounted, or the reflector may be revolved. The color effects also may be obtained by revolving the reflector with the colored discs.
The annexed drawing shows the present invention by way of example and illustrates a hummin top in a longitudinal section.
The b0 y of the humming top consisting in general of a cylindrical and hollow casing is designated with a and hason its upper end an opening, whilst on its lower end the spinning point is provided. In the peripheral wall of the body are arranged a number of windows I) covered with transparent material, as for instance glass or celluloid, of different colors. Within the top body and below the windows I) a mirror-like reflector 0 preferably of nickeled sheet iron is loosely and turnably mounted on the vertical spinning axle 6, said reflector being disc-shaped and formed to provide corrugations or recesses. At the upper end of the top body is provided an opening 01 through which the mirror-like reflector 0 is visible. The beams of day light, or artificial light, enter through the lateral windows 2) into the inner of the top body and strike on the corrugated surface of the reflector 0. Also the windows may be covered with transparent discs of different colors. The rays entering through said discs are reflected by means of the mirror 0 to the upper opening d, so that luminous effects are visible from above while the top is spinning. By spinning the top in the well known manner colors of constantly changing compo-.
sition are roduced the tinge of which depends on t 1e position of the reflector 0 revolving loosely around the spinning axis, so that the luminous effects obtained in the inner of the humming top resemble colored flames.
Without departing from the feature of the invention another toy may be used instead of the humming top shown by Way of example, or the arrangement may be used for toy novelties or for advertising purposes.
What I claim is:
1. A top producing color and light effects comprising a body ofgeneral annular shape, a central opening provided on the upper end of the body, a central shaft arranged within the opening and projecting through the lower part of said body, the walls of said body provided with a plurality of openings, colored transparent plates covering said openings, a
reflector horizontally disposed in lower part of said body and loosely mounted on said shaft.
2. A top as claimed in claim 1, said reflector provided with corrugations.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
