Patented June 11, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NATHAN BORSUK, OF NEW YORK, AND LOUIS PESACOV, OI BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
FRAME STRUCTURE.
Application filed October 8, 1926. Serial No. 140,348.
Our present invention relates to frame structures and more especially to frame structures having hollow bar members, and one object of thc, invention is to provide a frame structure of this character constituting an enclosure frame and which is light in weight, strong, rigid and easily and cheaply manufactured.
A feature of the invention is the provision of a frame structure in which hollow bar frame members which are transversely connected to each other are connected by engagement of an end portion of one bar in an aper ture in a side face of an adjacent bar, and hollow bar frame members which are longitudinally connected to each other are connected by a longitudinal portion of one bar engaging in longitudinally extending slot means provided in an adjacent bar, the bars whether transversely or longitudinally connected being secured together, preferably by welding, at the points of engagement with each other.
lVhile herein details of the invention are pdcscribed, the invention is not limited to these details, since many and various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or exceeding the scope of the appended claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings showing by way of example one of the possilile embodiments of the invention,
Fig. 1 is a perspective elevation of an enclosure frame structure of substantially cabinet form.
Figs. 2 and 3 are fragmental detail views showing the manner of transversely connecting hollow bar frame members to each other.
Fig. t is a crosssectional view of a hollow bar frame member of the type shown in Fig. 1, but modified therefrom having longitudinally secured thereto on a side face thereof a tubular bar or member having on one side a slot extending longitudinally thereof.
Fig. 5 is a sectional detail taken on line 5-5, Fig. 1, showing the apertures in the adjacent side faces of the corner uprights.
Similar reference characters denote similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to Fig. 1, the frame structure comprises the uprights 10, the top and bottom front crosspieces 11 and 12, the top and bottom end cross-pieces 13 and 14, the reticulated panels 15 having the side or edge strips 16 and 17 and the middle strips 18, and the top or cover 19 for the frame, all of which,
except the panels 15 and the top 19, are ho].- low bars rectangular in cross section, the side strips 16 and 17 being narrower than the other bars for engaging the slot means later mentioned, or they may be of solid material to permit this engagement.
The end portions, such as 20 Fig. 2, of the top and bottom front cross-pieces 11 and 12 and of the top and bottom end cross-pieces 13 and 1 1 are engaged in rectangular apertures such as 21 in adjacent side faces of the corner uprights 10 as shown in Fig. 5 and are secured therein, preferably by welding, at the points of engagement of these members with each other for transversely connecting the front and end cross-pieces to the uprights 10; the middle strips 18 of the panels 15 are engaged at their end portions such as 22 in apertures such as 23 in the top and bottom front cross-pieces 11 and 12 and are secured therein, preferably by welding.
Tubular members 25 are secured to one of the side faces of the uprights 10 as shown in Fig. 4, and extend to, and engage, the cross pieces 11 and 12. Each member 25 is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 26 in which are engaged the side strips 16 and 17, said strips being secured in the slots 26 preferably by welding.
The top or cover 19 is secured to the upper ends of'the uprights 10 in any suitable manner, as by welding.
Vhat we claim and desire to Letters Patent is:
A frame structure of cabinet form embodying hollow corner uprights rectangular in cross section, each upright having a rectangular aperture in each side face of a pair of adjacent side faces near each end of said side faces, each of said adjacent side faces having atfixed thereon a slotted tubular member, each of said members being disposed between the apertures on each of said side faces and extending longitudinally of the side face, hollow top and bottom front and rear. cross pieces rectangular in cross section having end portions engaging the apertures in one of the adjacent faces of the uprights, hollow top and bottom end cross-pieces rectangular in cross-sections and having end portions engaging the apertnres in the other of the adjacent side faces of the uprights, said top and bottom front cross-pieces having alined closely spaced apertures in one of their side faces about midway of the length of the crosspieces, panels consisting of two main porprotect by tions and two parallel and adjacent hollow slotted tubular. member, and a top disposed middle pieces arranged intermediately of said on the upper ends of said uprights.
main portions and a strip on each of the Signed at New York, in the county of 10 outer sides 30f said main p0rti0ns,,the ends New York and State of New York this 30th of said middle pieces engaging said alined day of September, A. D. 1926.
apertures of the front top and bottom cross: LOUIS PESACOV.
