This invention relates to improvements in protective coverin for bath tubs and the llke, and one of the objects of the invention 1s to provide a protective or temporary cover which 1 is adapted to be placed over a bath tub during the time that the building or room is under construction. 4 1

In order to install what is commonly known as built-in bath tubs, it isnecessary to put the same into position before the room is'finlshed so that the tile as well as the wall may be properly placed.

The result is that the highly polished or finished porcelain surface of the tub is constantly exposed to injury by sand, paint, plas-.

ter and the like, and with the further objec tion that workmen often place objects into the tubas wellas stand in thetub themselves, or

It is one of the objects of the present 1nvention to overcome thesedifficult ies and objections and to provide an improved protecting cover for this purpose andwhich cover will not, only be adjustable to compensate varying sizes of tubs but will beJpreferably of sufficient strength to support the mechanic,

In order to protect the outer face of the upright wall of the tub, curtains or shields 28 maybe provided. The top edge of the shields: or curtains 28 are respectively-rolled I bodying end sections and. an intermediate or curved as at 29 so as to telescope with each other and at the same time the telescoping portion 29 will enter the bearing 27 so that the proximate ends ofthe curtains or shields will'be support-ed. e

The respective curtains or shields are supported by the bearings '24 on the respective members 21, while the bearing27 on the intermediate membersupports the telescoping portion of the curtains or shields. V -An end curtain or'shield of similar constructionmay be'pivotally supported by the bearings24i; and the bearings 24fl'are provided on each of the'end sections so that a curtain may be employed wheneither of the end sections 21'Jis' outermost.

If desired, bumpers 30 may be provided on the inner faces of the curtains or shields to contact with. the outer face of the tub.

Thus it willbe seen that the curtainsor center section of the cover to fit smaller tubs.

'vVhen the end sections 21 are separated, when the cover is in position on the tub, the shields or curtains 28 will also be separated.

With this improved construction it will be manifest that the device may be-telescoped together or may be knocked down for the purpose of transportation or storage, and the, parts may be constructed of such strength so that the cover will serve as a support for a mechanic, if he desires to standthereupon.

While in the present exemplificationlof this invention, the cover sections are shown and described as being built-up elem ents, -it is tobe understood that the sections may be formedof stamping,

A cover for bath tubs and the like embodying end sections and an intermediate section with which the respective end sections telescope, all ofrsaid sections having edges resting on the top of the tub, the end sections i :and depending from certain of saidsections against the outer face of the wall of the tub.

A cover for bath tubs embodying a section having a depressedbody portion extending into the tub, the lateral edges of said section engaging and resting upon the top edge of the tub, a second section movable over the first said section, said second section having edges extending laterally beyond the said edges of the first said section and resting upon 7 tion having a depressed body portion extend the top edge of the wall of the tub, and an upright flange carried by one of said sections to fill the space between the'depressed portion of the first said section and the body ofthe second recited section and with respect to which flange one of said sections is movable in telescoping relation with the other section.

A cover for bath tubs embodying a section having a depressed body portion. extending into the tub, the lateral edges of said section engaging and resting-upon the top edge of the tu-b, a second section movable over the first said section, said second section having edges extending laterally beyondthe said edges of the first said section and resting upon the top edge of the wall of the tub, an upright flange carried by one of said sections to fill the space between the depressed portion of the first said section and the body ofthe second recited section and with respect to whlch flange one of said sections is. movable 1n telescoping relationwith the other section,

A cover for bathtubs embodying a section having adepressed body portion extendlng into the tub, the lateraledges of said section engaging and resting upon the top edge of the tub, a second section movableover the first said section, said second section having edges extending laterally beyond the said edges of the first said section and resting upon.

A cover for bath tubsembodying a seci tion having a depressed body portion extending into the tub, the lateral edges of said section engaging and resting upon the top edge of the tub, a second section movable over the first said section, said second section hav- 7 ing edges extending laterally beyond the said '3 edges of the first said section and resting upon the top edge of the wall of the tub, an upright flange carried by one of said sections to fill the space 'betweenthe depressed portion of the first said section and the body of'the second recited section and with respect to which flange one of said sections is movable in telescoping relation with the other section, and protecting pads disposed between the top edge of the tub walls and the engaging edges of the respective sections of the cover.
