UNITED STATES EDWARD L. KOENIG, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
ADJUSTABLE CHAIR.
Application filed February 23, 1928. Serial No. 256,343
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved adjustable chair for fac tories and the like which is simple and economical in structure and may be quickly a'djusted, is very rigid and secure in its several adjusted positions.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitely appear from the description to follow. I
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in' the claims.
A device embodying my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specificatiomin Which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my improved adjustable chair.
Fig. 2 is a detailed vertical section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detailed section illustrating the clamps or securing members.
Referring to the drawing my improved chair comprises a base frame or pe'destal unit 1 made up in the embodiment illustrated of legs 2 connected by cross pieces 3, 4c and 5. Only one side of the base pedestal is illustrated but it will be understood that the other is a duplicate. The sides are connected preferably by forming the members 3, 4 and 5 endless or continuous parts.
- The base member 3 is preferably angle iron as illustrated. The members 3 and 4 have vertically alined holes 6 and 7 therein. The seat 8 is provided with vertical standards 9 slidably disposed on the inner sides of the base member 3 and 4 and having vertical series of holes 10 therein adapted to j be brought to register with holes of the base members. 7 v
The parts are secured in their adjusted position by the U-shaped clamp members 11 formed of heavy iron or rods, arms 12 being angled or hooked at 13 while the arms 14 are threaded to receive the clamping nuts 15. To secure the parts the arms 12 are inserted in registering holes of the uprights and the horizontal pieces 3 as indicated in Fig. 3, the arms 14B are then inserted through registering holes of the parts 9 and l andclampe'd therein by the nuts 15. This forces the angled or hooked portions 13 against the in ner sides of the standards thereby clamping the parts together with a camming action, the uprights being clamped againstthe base members I by the nuts. L
I thus provide a very simple and effective meansfor clamping the parts in their adjusted position and when adjusted the are very securely retained. o
'Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
parts 1. In an adjustable chair the combination of a base member provided with vertically spaced holes, a chair seat provided with vertically adjustable standards having a vertical series of holes adapted to be alined with holes in said base member, and U-shaped clamps adapted to be inserted through the alined holes of said base member and standards, one arm being threaded and provided with a clamping nut and the other being angled to clamp the parts together with a camming action when the threaded ends are clamped by the nut.
2. In an adjustable chair the combination .of a base member provided with vertically In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
EDWARD L. KOENIG.
