This invention relates to a volume and price recording attachment for use on a machine'for measuring and vending liquids.
It is an object of this invention to provide a liquid dispensing machine with a device adapted to punch, cut oii' and deliver a ticket from a roll of tickets in order that the volume of liquids delivered together with the exact price thereof will be detinitely indicated by a punch mark on the issued ticket.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a liquid pumping machine vwith a ticket delivering mechanism which is so connected to coact with the pumping machine that a ticket cannot be punched and delivered unless liquidis actually pumped.
" Another object of the invention 'is the construction of a ticket issuing recorder, co-operatively mounted on a liquid pump to cause a punch mechanism to travel past a ticket by the motion of the pump operating mecha? nism to permit the ticket to be punched to indicate the volunie and price of the liquid f dispensed, to sever the punched ticket from the roll of tickets and to deliver the punched ticket from the machine by the operation of an auxiliary handle. It is a further object of the invention to provide a liquid dispensing machine with a recorder having a-moving punch mechanism ,adapted to be operated at the4 completion of a pumping operation to punch a ticket to correctly indicate the numbervof gallons of liquid dispensed, together'with the total price thereof, depending upon the price per gallon at which the ticket is set.
It is furthermore an object of the invention to provide a recording device for an oil dispensing machine, said device having a roll of tickets, each ticket of which is printed to 'cover a plurality of prices per gallon of oil together with the total prices covering different quantities of oil.
It is an important object of this invention to .provide an oil dispensing machine with a recording device having' tickets adapted to be set to correspond to a givenfprice per gal punched ticket from the roll of tickets and allows the severed ticket to drop by gravity through a discharge chute.
Other and `further important objects of this invention will beA apparent from the disclosures in the specification and the accompanying drawings.
The invention (in a prefered form) is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.

A springv 16 is engaged with the pawl 14 and acts to hold the same out of engagement with the large gear 8 and in contact vwith the periph- '20.a ery of a circular disk 17 having a notch 18 in the periphery thereof to receive the pawl.

Asshown in Fig. 6, also rotatably mounted on the sleeve 30 adjacent the bell crank mem- 1 bers 54-#55 is a pair of spaced brackets or f arms 56 having projections or teeth 57 integrally formed thereon for coaetion with Integrally connected to the arms '56 are lugs or fingers 58 which project inwardly toward one another, as shown in Figure 3, and have secured thereto a-horizontally disposed channel bar 59. Engaged around the sleeve 30 is a spring 60, one end of which is bent to engage the short arm 54 of one of the bell crank members 54..-55, while the other end of said spring 60 engages one of the arms 5G.
v The device is Provided with a traveling punch mechanism comprising a slidable punch pin,61 which is supportedg in a recessed punch block 62. A spring 63l is engaged right angleslto a ticket slot 65. The punch` block is provided with a concave recess 66 having partial threads to permit the feed screw 13, when rotating, to advance the punch block. The punch block 62 is provided with an integral arm 67 (Fig. 3) having a projecting pin 68 to which one end of a coiled punch block return spring 69 is attached. The other end of the spring 69 is connected to the auxiliary housing 9.
Mounted within the housing 11 is a ticket i guide chute 70 (Figs. 4 and 7) having open,-
ings in the walls thereof to permit the ticket feed rolls 31 and 32 to project therein. -Attached to the bottom of the housing 11 around va ticket discharge opening 71 is a ticket discharge chute 72. Fastened on the outer surfaceof the wall 10 is a metal strapor bracket 73 affording an opening l74 for receiving the flange 75 secured to a reel sup porting casing 7 6. vThe reel casing 76 is held secured in place by a set screw 80 and has a roll of printed tickets 77 rotatably supported therein. A pair of guide rolls 78 is Vmounted within the casing 76 between which the printed ribbon passes when leaving Said casing'through an outlet slot 79. The ribbon passes into aslot in the top of the housing 11 into the guide chute 70 and between the feed rolls 31 and 32 and between the guide bars 51 on which the block travels. The upper portion of the housing 11 is provided with a sight opening 81, through which aportion of the ribbon can be` seen. An in- `dicating arrow is placed on the housing 11 nearthe sight opening 81 to afford aguide for setting the ribbon.
As illustrated in Figure 12, the ribbon 77' rinted to cover a pluralityjof integral tic ets each covering a plurality of different prices A per gallon of gasoline or other liquid, said prices, as shown, ranging from 18d to 23e. lhe ticketpis also printed to indicate the total prices B at a given rate kvper gallon for different quantities C ofv gasoline ranging from 1 to 15 gallons. The
ribbon is set so that the particular price at which the gasoline is to be sold, for example 2095, is positioned in the sight opening 81, as
shown 1n Figure 3, to register with the in. `dieating arrowl llns setting positions the 20c section of the ticket withiirthe housing 11 in position to register with the punch pin 6l.
The operation is as follows: As'illustrated in Figure 1, the volume and price recorder of this invention is adapted to be attached to the frame of a gasoline pump 1 to receive a drive from the spindle 3 through the large gear 8 and the small gear 12. The ticket reel casing 76 is removably supported above the housing 11 and is held in place by means of the set screw 8O which engages against the supporting flange 75. The reel casing is provided with a removable cover to permit a roll of printed tickets 77 to be rotatably supported within the casing.
The printed ticketribbon is trainedbetween the rolls 78 and passes out of the casing 76 through the outlet passage 7 9 and enters the top of the housing 11. The ribbon then passes downwardly through the guide chute 70 and is visible through the sight opening 81 shown in Figure 3. ,The ribbon passes between the feed rollers 31 and 32 and downwardly through the housing between the punch block guide bars 51 to the ticket discharge chute 72.
When gasoline is to be sold at a given price per gallon, say twenty cents, the ticket ribbon 77 is adapted to be properly set by retracting the latch bolt 44 of the key lock 43.. The i Vuntil the required price twenty cents registers with the sight opening 81 and with the indicating arrow shown in Figure This adjustment of the ribbon positions a ticket within the housing 11 so that the portion of said ticket bearing the figures corresponding vto the twenty cent rate will be positioned in the plane of theipunch pin 61. The clutch member` 38 is now placed back in position and the shutter plate 39 is moved into closing position, as shown in Figure 2. The lock 43 is then operated by means of akey-to project the latch bolt 44 to hold the shutter plate locked against movement between the stop lug 42 and the latch bolt 44. Y
To operate the p-ump 1 the crank 2 is rotatedto elevate the pump rack bar 5 to cause the pump to pump gasoline from a storage tank. At the end of the upward stroke'of the rack bar, the same is released to permit tion repeated .until the required 'volume of gasoline has been pumped. With the rotation of the crank 2, the spindle 3 is rotated, thereby causing rotation of the large gear 8 and the small gear 12 on the feed screw 13. The feed screw 13 is thus rotated thereby for Asetting 'the punch in accordance with the quantity dispensed by advancing the punch block 62 across the ticket to a point indicating the' number of gallons of gasoline discharged by the pump.V Vitv-h the advance of the punch block 62 the control spring 69 is tensioned.
The crank 20 is now rotated, thereby rotating the shaft 19 and the notched disk 17 within the auxiliary housing 9. The pawl 14 is thus moved out of the notch 1 8 against the action of the spiing 16 and tracks on the periphery of the disk 17, at the same time having been moved into locking engagement with vthe teeth of the large gear 8 (see Figure 10), thereby locking said gear and the. pump ciaiik 2 against movement. Rotation of the shaft 19 iotates the disks 26 causing the teeth 27 to ride over the teeth 57 of the arms 56, as illustrated in Figures 4 and 6. The arms 56 are thus swung downwardly whereby the channel bar 59 is forced rearwardly thereby actuating the punch pin 61 to punch the ticket at a set position indicated by the punch hole D in Figure 12. The ticket is thus punched, thereby indicating the number of gallons of gasoline delivered by the pump and the tot-al cost of the same at a certain rate per gallon depending on the setting of the ticket. As shown in 'Figure 12,` the punchholeindicates l9 'gallons at a total cost of $1.80 at 20 per gallon. i
The disks 24 arealso rotated with the shaft 19 and immediately after the punching of the ticket the teeth I25 of said ldisks are brought into engagement with the teeth of the shor-t arms 54 of the bell `crank members, thereby causing the long arms 55 of the belll crank members to swing outwardly carrying the feed screw 13 out of engagement with the punch block. As soon as the punch block /62 is released by the feed screw, the tensioned spring 69 acts automatically to return the punch block back into. its initial position shown in Figure 8. It will be evident from Figure 6 that the spring 60 acts 'downwardly `upon arms 54 when arms 56 are contacted downwardly by the teeth of disks 24 to return the vfeed screw back into 22 move into engagement with the teeth 46 of the hook arms 45. Said arms 45 are thereby` forced rearwardly pushing the cutting' bar-- 47 rearwardly, thus cutting 'off the punched ticket from the remainder of the ribbon. The punched ticket which has been cut off falls by gravity through the ticket discharge chute 72. The springs 50 act automatically to return the cutting bar 47 to release position after a cutting operation.
The punching operation, the release of theseated engagement in the disk notch 18, 'i thereby unlocking the large gear 8 and the pump crank 2 for the next operation of the pump. IVith the feeding of the punched ticket through the recorder the next ticket is moved into position ready to be punched with the next operation ofthe pump and recorder.
The ticket ribbon may be printed to take care of any series of prices per gallon and with the total prices for any desired range of gallons other than those shown on the ticket form illustrated iii Figure 12. If desired a duplicate ticket ribbon may be run through the recorder with the main ticket v ribbon to permit a record to be kept by the operator of the pump.
When the large gear 8 is released by the pawl 14, the crank 2 is permitted to be rotated in a reverse direction to lower the rack 5 and thel pump piston. The spring controlled clutch members and 7 Apermit lowering of the rack after a pumping opeiation.
I am aware that numerous details of construction may be varied. through a wide range without departing from the` principles of this invention,- and I therefere .do not purpose'liniiting the patent granted other- 100 wise than necessitated by the prioi' art.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a liquid dispenser having pump actuating mechanism and a punch set thereby in accordance with the quantity dispensed,
a ticketlweb, manually actuatedmeans for rsuccessively locking said mechanism and actuating said punch, for punching said ticket web. i
2. In a liquid dispenser having pump aca tuating mechanism and a punch set thereb in accordance with the quantity dispense i a manually rotatable member, means actuated by said member for locking and maintaining said pump Aagainst actuation and a punch actuating device operated by said member after the locking of said pump.
3. Ina liquid dispenser having pump actuating mechanism and a punch setthereby in accordance with thel quantity dispensed, a manually rotatable shaft, means actuated by said shaft for locking said pump, a punch actuating device, a punch releasing device, and means operated by said shaft for effecting the operation of said devices.
4. In a liquid dispenser comprising pump actuating mechanism and indexing mechanism set thereby 'in accordance` with the quantity dispensed, a manually operable member, means successively operated by said l member for actuating said indexing mechanism and returning the same to initial position.
5. In a liquid dispenser comprising pump actuating mechanism and indexingmechanism set thereby in accordance With the quantity dispensed, a ticket web over which said indexing mechanism is set, a manually actuable shaft, means actuated by said shaft for locking said pump, and operating said indexing mechanism and driving mechanism for said ticket. web operatively connected to said shaft after the actuation of said indexing mechanism.
6. In a liquid dispenser comprising pump actuating mechanism and a punch set thereby in accordance With the quantity dispensed, a ticket web with respect to which said punch is set, manually actuable means for disabling said pump and actuating said punch for indicatingr upon said ticket web' the quantity dispensed, means for returning said punch to initial position and driving mechanism for said ticket Web operatively connected with said manually actuable means after the actuation of said punch.
7 In a liquid dispenser comprising pump actuating mechanism and a punch set thereby in accordance With the quantity dispensed, a ticket web with respect to which said punch is set, manually operable means for locking said pump actuating mechanism and operating said punch and driving mechanism for said ticket Webv connectable with said manually operable means after the operation of said punch.
8. ln a liquid dispenser comprising a pump actuating mechanism operably connected with an indexing device for setting tliesame in accordance with the quantity dispensed, a ticket web with respect to which said indexing mechanism is set, a manually operable shaft, means operated by said shaft for effecting engagement of said indexing mechanism and ticket web and driving mechanism for said ticket web operably connected With said shaft after the indexing operation.
9. ln a liquid dispenser comprising pump operating mechanism and an indexing mechanism set thereby in accordance with` the quantity dispensed, a ticket `Web with respect to which said indexing mechanism is set, manually operated means for locking said pump and actuating said indexed mechanism, and driving mechanism for said ticket web adapted to be connected With said means after the indexing operation.

In a liquid dispenser comprising pump actuating mechanism and an indexing mechanism set thereby-in accordance With the quantity dispensed, a ticket web with respect to which said indexing mechanism is set, a manually rotatable shaft, means operated by said shaft for locking said pump actuating mechanism, and operating said indexing mechanism for marking said ticket web, means set' in motion by the rotation of said shaft for returning said indexing mechanism to initial position anddriving mechanism for said ticket web connectable with said shaft after a partial revolution thereof.
1l. In a liquid dispenser, dispensing mechanism, a ticket strip, a punching member, a connection between said punching member and said dispensing mechanism whereby said punching member is moved `relative to the strip according to the quantity dispensed, a'
manually actuated member, and'means actuated by said actuable member for locking said dispensing mechanism and eEect-ing engagement of said punching member and ticket strip.
12. In a liquid dispenser, dispensing mechanism, a ticket strip, a punching member, a connection between said punching member and said dispensing mechanism whereby said punching member is set in accordance with the quantity dispensed, a manually actuable shaft, locking mechanism actuated by said shaft for locking said dispensing mechanism, other mechanism actuated by said shaft for eecting engagement of said punching member and ticket strip, and a driving connection between said shaft and ticket member operable after the punching oper-y.
