JOHN B. BAXTER, OI TROY, NEW YORK,
ASSIG-NOR TO COVERT MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF WATERVLIET, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.,
COMBINED HARNESSSLIDE AND SNAP.
Application f led June 14,
This invention relates to improvements in combined harness slides and snaps, to devices of this kind which have a slide for the breast connection, and an attaching snap pivotally connected to the slide and adapted to connect with the neck yoke eye.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved combined slide and snap of the general character referred to, of simple, strong, durable construction that will operate easily and efficiently and that can be manufactured at low cost. p 5
Important novel characteristics of the invention reside in the special construction of slide and attaching snap, and the particular means provided for limiting the oscillatory movement of the slide relatively to the attaching snap.
The invention, with other objects and advantages thereof, and the particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts comprising the same will be understood from the following detailed description, when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof and illustrating one embodiment of the invention.
In the drawings: I
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a combined slide and snap construction. in. accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
Fig. 3' is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section on the line cczv of FigureQ. i
While a particular embodiment of the invention is illustratedin the drawings, it will of course be understood that changes and variations in the particular construction shown, maybe made and the invention embodied in other forms as will appeal to those skilled in the art and falling within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention. v
Referring to a detail description of the particular embodiment of the invention illus trated in the drawing, A designates the slide of the device and B the attaching snap.
The slide A comprises a body portion 1 curved or rounded longitudinally and pro vided with longitudinal marginal flanges 2 at its under side, the slide at its under side being adapted to receive and slidably engage a harness breast connection. The slide is especially adapted for use with breast chains.
1927. 7 Serial No. 198,754.
The side flanges 2 are shown substantially semi-circular shape and coextensive with the body portion 1, th'e same being of substan tial height at the central .part of the body portion 1 and gradually decreasing in height towards the ends thereof. The body portion .1 oftheslide is curved transversely, as Well longitudinally, being concave at its under side, the bottom face 8 of the body portion 1 of the slide joining the inner side faces 4 of the marginal flanges 2 in a gradual curve, and the ends 5 of the body portion 1 curving into the ends of the flanges 2 the ends of the body portion 1 and the marginal edge portions of the-flanges 2 being rounded. As Will be appreciated this construction possesses strength and'is', such as to prevent binding or cramping, and to provide for free sliding engagement of the links of the breast'ohain With the slide. v 1 i v The slide A at its upperside 5 is'provided with a projecting portion 6 to form a bearing above its bottom chain engaging surface 3.
ecting portion, n the present in res the form" of a boss 7, substantiali This pro' stance, tal ly semicircular shape in cross section and extending transversely co-extensive with the body portion 1, said boss being provided with an aperture or bore 8 and having enlarged end portions 9, which have flat end faces.
The attaching snap member B comprises a hook portion 10 and a shank 11. At its,
rear end the shank 11' connects with a cross head or bar 12 and extending rearwardly from the crossbar are spaced side arms 13. The side arms 13 near their rear end portions aligmnent with the enlarged rounded por-, tions 14 of the side arms 13, and the apertures 15 and 8 of these parts in register. Theslide A is pivotally connected to theattaching snap by a rivet or like fastening member 17 extending through the aperture 8 of the boss7- and the apertures 15 of the enlarged portions 14 of the arms 18 of the snap, the rivet having endheads to engage the outer side faces of the arms 13.. The apertured boss-7 of the to be positioned bei i slide A loosely engages the. rivet 17 to freely rock about the same, the end faces of the en'-,
larged end portions 9 of the boss 7 forming i 90 have enlarged rounded portions 14 provided 1 prises inwardly extending portions 18 on the side arms 13, said portions being located in advance or above the pivotal connection of the slide A with the arms 13 in the path of movement of the end portions of the slide. In this particular instance, the inwardly extending stop portions 18 on the side arms are shown as formed by inwardly bent end portions or extensions of the side arms.
The attaching snap B including its hook portion 10, shank 11, crossbar 12, andside arms 13 is formed integral and this structure and the slide A are cast or otherwise suitably formed. I I
The improved device hereinbefore set forth is of a practical nature, strength, durability, and efficiency being secured in a comparatively simple inexpensive construction. The special construction and mounting of the slide insures ease in operation, and the special means for limiting the oscillatory movement of the slide is of an efficient nature provided in a simple way and advantageously arranged with the other parts or the device.
What I claim is: p p
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a slide adapted to receive a chain or the like at its under side, an attach ing snap having rearwardly extending spaced side arms, means pivotally connecting the slide intermediate its ends to and between the said arms ot'the snap inwardly of the rear ends thereof, one of said arms having a relatively short inwardly extending portion above the pivotal connection of the slide to said arms in the path of movement of the end portions of the slide and acting to limit the oscillatory movement of the slide in either direction relatively to the snap.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a slide adapted to receive a chain or the like at its under side, an attaching snap having rearwardly extending spaced side arms, means pivotally connecting the slide intermediate its ends to and between the side arms of the snap inwardly of the rear ends thereof, each of said arms having a relatively short portion extending inwardly therefrom at a point above the pivotal connection of the slide to the arms in the path oi movement oi the slide and acting to limit the oscillatory movement of the slide in either direction relatively to the snap.
8. In a device of the class described, the combination of a slide adapted to receive a chain or the like at its under side, an attaching snap having rearwardly extending spaced side arms, means pivotally connecting the slide intermediate its ends to and between th side arms of the snap inwardly of the rear ends thereof, each of said arms having at theirrear ends a relatively short inward extension above the pivotal connection of the slide to the arms in the path of movement 01: the end portions of the slide and acting to limit the oscillatory movement of the slide in either direction relatively to the snap.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
JOHN B; BAXTER.
