FLOYD P. ALLEN AND WILLIAMTI. BRETT, OF CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OHIO, ASSIGNlJRS T0 THE ENAMEL PRODUCTS COMPANY, .OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, A CORPORATION (313 OHIO. 2
Application. filed May 19,
This invention relates to receptacles, and more particularly receptacles for paper in cut sheets, as toilet paper, towels, etc.; and it is among the objects of the invention to provide a t cvice which is reliable and simple, and neat in appearance. Other objects and advantages will appear as the description proceeds.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, the invention, then, consists of the features hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims, the following description and the annexed drawings setting forth in detail certain features embodying the invention, such construction constituting, however, but one of the various ways in which the principle of the invention may be employed.
In said annexed drawings z,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention Fig. 2 is a similar view from the back in open position; Fig. 3 is a medial section; and Fig. l is a section taken on the plane indicated by the line IV-IV, Fi 3.
The reference numeral 1 in the drawing designates a casing in the form of a front member connected by a hinge 2 to a back plate or wall plate 3. The latter is adapted to be fastened to a wall by screws or bolts taking through slots, as at l. The back plate has .i'narginal flanges 5, 6, the latter normally at the top being shaped with a hasp opening 7 cooperative with a lock 8 in the top of the front casing member. ,The bottom of the front casing member is provided with an outlet slot 9, and for clearance space thereabove, platform surfaces are arranged so as to afford necessary spacing for the travel of sheets when in process ofremoval. The lioor of the casing member extends forwardly and upwardly to outline a ledge or front shoulder 10, while to the rear of the outlet slot an elevated flange 11, substantially on a level with the ledge 10, provides another platform surface as aforesaid. Conveniently such platform 11 may be stamped up from heavy sheet metal as a re-bent leaf or flange to constitute also one member of the hinge, and the elements of the construction otherwise may also be of stamped metal. In this manner the wall plate 8 constitutes one member of the hinge, and the element 11 the other, being attached together by the'hinge-pintle, and to assemble with the front casing mem- TOILET-PAPER oABInnr.
1927 Serial in). 192,533.
ber l'boltsor rivets 14: are set through the floorof the casing member and the hinge member-l1. l izp'osed surfaces, particularly the front 'tasing member, are covered preferably with a coating of vitreous porcelain or baked enamel, thereby insuring neatness in appearance and a sanitary construction as well, and as will be observed, our arrange ment of assembly elements aifo *ds a minimum of possibility of chipping or damaging the finish.
it. stack of cut sheets 12, of a type folded such as to alternately interleave, being placed in the container with the lowermost sheet started to feed through the slot 9, the casing is closed back against its wall plate and locked, the lock preferably being of snap type, and as each successive sheet is withdrawn down through the outlet, it starts the feed of the next sheet, as in a well known manner. As the stock becomes low, this is indicated by a sight gauge 13, conveniently in the form of a. slot located adjacent and just above the front ledge 10.
It will thus be seen that whether for toilet paper size or towel size, or other analogous cut sheet usage, the device presents a simplicity and durability of construction togethcr with neat appearance and sanitary structure throughout.
Other modes of applying the principle of the invention may be employed, change being made as regards the details disclosed, provided the means stated in any of the following claims, or the equivalent of such, be employed.
We therefore particularly point out and distinctly claim as our invention 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a wall plate, a hinge element attached thereto by a hinge-pintle, and a front casing member secured to said hinge element, said casing having a slot outlet' underneath, and said hinge element being re-bent to form a platform surface spaced from said slot.
In a device of the character described, the combination. of a wall plate, a hinge element attached thereto by a hinge-pintle, marginal flanges on said plate, a front casing member secured to said hinge element, said casing having a slot outlet underneath, the floor forwardly of such slot bending upwardly and forwardly to provide a spaced front ledge, and said hinge element being re-bent to form a raised platform spaced vproviding a lock-hasp, a front casing member secured to, said hinge element, said casing having a slot out-let underneath, the floor 10 forwardly of such slot bending upwardly and forwardly to provide a spaced front ledge, and said hinge element being re-bent to form a raised platform spaced from such slot to the rear, and a lock in the top of the aforesaid casing cO-operativewith the hasp-flange, exposed surfaces of the casing being covered with enamel finish.
4. In a device of the character described, the combination of a wall plate, marginal flanges on said plate, one of said flanges providing a loek-hasp, a front casing member hinged to said plate below, said casing having a slot outlet underneath, the floor forwardly of'su'ch slot bending upwardly and forwardly to provide a spaced front ledge, a raised platform spaced from such slot to the rear and integral with the hinge for joining the front casing and wall plate, and a lock in the top of the aforesaid casing co-operative with the hasp-fiange,
Signed by us, this 16th day of May, 1927.
