Description

L. GLANZER A ril 16, 1929.
SNOW FENCE Filed Oct. 11, 1927 2 Sheets-Sheet Patented Apr. 16, 1929.
UNITED STATES LUDWIG GLANZER, OF WINKLER, KANSAS.
SNOW FENCE.
Application filed October 11, 1927.
This invention relates to improvements in snow fences or snow deflectors, and has for its object to provide means whereby snow may be prevented from settling in road or railway cuts.
Another object of the invention is to provide a deflector for directing snow away from road cuts.
With the above and such other objects in view as may hereinafter more fully appear, I have invented the device shown in the accompanying illustration, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a snow fence or deflector;
Figure 2' is a rear elevational View thereof;
Figure 3 is an enlarged elevational view of a single section of the device;
Figure 4 is an end eleval ional View thereof.
Figure 5 is a plan view on a reduced scale.
Like reference characters indicate like parts, throughoutthe following specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 1 indicates a snow deflecting fence consisting of a series of connected sections 2, 3. 4, etc.. each of said sections consi tag of a sei'nicylindrical wall 5, having end walls 6 and 7, said members 5 being mounted upon supports 8, having base members or arms 8' and forwardly inclined uprights 9 and 10 which latter members connect with one another at their upper ends 11 and form a support for the tube 12, said tube being tapering in form and connected to the member 5 at its lower edge 13, and opening into the interior of the said semicylindrical member 5.
Brace members 14 and 15 are connected at their upper ends 16 and attached to the forward side 17 of the tube 12, and have their lower portions 18 and 19 fixed to the edge 20 of the member 5. The extreme ends 21 and 22 of the members 14 and 15 project beyond the edge 20, and are provided with apertures 23 for cables 24 and 25 the outer ends of which are connected to stakes 26 and 27 respectively, whereby the device is thoroughly secured against the force of the wind.
The end walls 6 and 7 are provided with reinforcing connection plates 28, having bolt holes therein for the passage of the securing bolts 29 for connecting the sections 2', 3, 4, etc., together. The members 8 are provided with apertures 30 for the anchoring stakes 31.
The above described deflector fences are intended to be placed along the edges of road Serial No. 225573.
or railway cuts in position to catch the full force of the wind so that during snow storms the wind will carry the snow into the cylindrical deflectors and thence through the. draught tubes 12 wit h great force driving the snow away from the cuts.
Having described m v invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is: I
1. A snow deflector including a semi-cylindrical deflector member, having a relatively large tube conected therewith.
2. A snow deflector including a semi-cylindrical deflector member, having a relatively large tube connected therewith, said tube a ing tapered.
IS. A snow deflector including a semi-cylindrical dettector member, having a rclativelv large tube connected therewith. said tube being tapered. its outer end being of lesser diameter than its inner end.
4. A snow deflector including a semi-cylind ical defiector member having a relativclv large tube connected therewith. said tube being tapered, its outer end being of lesser diametcr than its inner end. and means for supporting said member, said means inc uding a horimmtal base. i l
5. A snow deflector including a semi-evlindrical deflector member having a relatively large tube connected therewith. said tube being tapered, its outer end being of lesser diameter than its inner end, supports for said member. including forwardly inc ined uprights.
6. A snow deflector including a semi-cylindrical deflector member having a relatively large tube connected therewith, said tube be ing tapered. its outer end being of lesser diameter than its inner end, supports for said member, including for ardly inclined uprights, said supports being connected at their upper ends.
7. A snow deflector including a semi-cylindrical deflector member having a relatively large tube connected therewith. said tube being tapered, its outer end being of lesser diameter than its inner end. supports for said iember. including forwardly inclined uprights. said supports being connected at their upper ends, and with said tube. and braces for the for and end of said deflector menihers.
8. As claim 7 and said braces being secured to said tube and to said semi-cylindrical member.
9. As claim 7 and said braces being secured to said tube and to said semi-cylindrical 111e111her, said braces havin terminals prejecting beyond the edge 0t said semi-cylindrical member and cables connected therewith and t0 ell'set anchoring stakes.
10. A snow deflector including a semi-eylindrieal deflector 111e1nber. having a relati'velfi large tube, connected therewith, said tube being: tapered and said deflector member having side walls.
11. A snew defieetor including :1 semi-eylindrieal deflector niendiei', having :1 relatively large tube connected therewith said tube beingtapered and said deflector 111en1ber having side Walls, and a fence formed of a series of said semi-cylindrical members.
12. A snow deflector including a, semi-cylindrical deflector member, having a relatively large tube connected therewith, said tube being tapered, said deflectermember having side Walls, a fence formed of a series of said semi-eylindrical 111enlbers, and means for seen ng the side walls of one section to the side Walls of another section.
113. in :1 snew deflector a curved wall having' an opening); therein, and a tapering tube eenneeted with the opening.
14. In a snen defleetor a curved Wall having: an opening thereinand end Wills.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
LUDlV IG GLANZER.
