This invention relates to feedt'rough, de,
signed primarily for use in the feeding of fowls, but it is to be understoodthat a trough, in accordance with this invention, can be employed for anypurposes wherein it is foundapplicable, and the invention has for it'sobtured cover or lid therefor and with the container andrcoverhaving coacting means for detachably securing thecover in closure position with respect to the container andin a manner to prevent the cover from being accident-ally; shiftedfrom :oftlthe container. 7
, A- furtherobjectof the invention is to provide, in a manneras hereinattersset forth, a feed trough forthe *purpose referred to, .in-
cludingi a cover anda containerand with the cover provided with means for-hooking on.
either side edge of the container and on the means provides, in-connection with the container, aitastener to preventthe removalof the cover other than by shifting the same longitudinally withirespect to the container.
A further object of the invention is to pro-v vide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, .a
feed trough for the purposereterred to, ineluding 'aconta-iner anda coveror lid therefor,vand-with the latter provided with longitudinally extending means capable of engaging over the side Walls-of the containertorconnecting the covertherewith, and With said means so constructed whereby when desired, the cover canbe removed from the. COllttllIlQB by shifting the cover from oflfione end'of the 7 container.
Further objects of the inventionare to pro-' vide, vin a manner as hereinafterset-forth,=a 7
feed trough, lwhich =isa'si'mple in its construe tion and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly efficient in its use, readily assembled, and inexpensive to-manutacture:
With the toregoinga-nd other objects in view, the invention consists ofithe novel construction,.combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter: more specifically de-- scribed and illustrated-in the-accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an'embodiment ofthe invention, but=it is tobe understood that changes, variations and modifications can resorted towhich come Within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

in accordance with this invention.
.F}8111re 2 is a side elevationthereof; Figure 3 is a section'on line 3+3, Figure 11 A feed trough, in accordance with this in- VGIltlOIl, is constructed fromjsheet metal. of
suitable gage, and comprises a trough-like ,OOIltllIlGI for the feed and a cover or lidftor the container and with the cover andcontamer having coacting means fordet'a'chably securing the lid in position. The container, as Well as the lid, is preferably stamped from. sheet metal to the shape as illustrated. I
The trougli-likecontainer or body portion is substantially rectangular in plan and con- S1|JS- 0f a bottom 1-, a pair of oppositely inclined side Walls 2, 3 and apair of'endwalls 4, 5, which are oppositely inclined'withrespect to each other. The bottom l'is formed centrally thereof with a lengthwise extend ing up-set portion 6,.f0rming a reinforcing 131b, and each corner of the bottom 1- is formed with a hollow depending semi-spherical'por;
tion 7 and the said dependingportion'? constitutes supports to maintain the bottom 1' above the surface oft-he ground Each corner of they contalner or. body portion is corrugated, as at- 8,. for'reinforcingthe saline.-v
Each end wall increases inheight towards the center thereof from each of the side walls.
The setting up of the container or bodypor-' tionin the manner as stated, provides the same of flaringcontour, not only atits sides but atits ends. I i 1 i The cover or lid isr'eferred. to generally by v the referencecharacter: 9 and inelines downwardly inopposite directions from its longitudinal center, as indicated at 10, 11. The
The cover or lid 9 is of a length to project from the end of each of the side walls of the container, and each side of the cover or lid 9 isformedwitha lengthwise extending angle-shaped depending resilient fastener member, referred to generally by the reference character 17. Each fastener member consists of a depending latching arm 18 of a length greater than a sidewall of the container. The latching arm 18 inclines inwardly throughout towards a side wall of the 7 container.. The arm 18 extends in the same inclined plane throughout. The arm,18 at its lower end merges into an outwardly extending downwardly nclined arm 19 of the same length as the length of a side wall of the container and of less length than the length of the arm 18. The arm 19 extends in the member 17 for detachably securing the cover orlid 9 to the container or body portion, see Figure 3, and to remove the cover or lid 9 after it is connected with the container or body portion, it is shifted lengthwise from off one end of the container or body portion. To secure the cover or lid 9 in position, it is positioned on the top of-the container or body portion and then pressure is applied-to the cover, or lid and it is forced into connecting position with respect to the container or body portion. When the cover is positioned on the top of the container or body portion, prior to the securing of the cover in position, it is hooked over one sidewall, after which pressure is applied and the cover is then connected in position to the body port-ion. The
fastener members are of like construction but oppositely disposed with respect to each other and either one of which can be hooked to a side wall prior to the application of pressure to the cover to cause the engagement of both ofthe-fastener members with both side walls cover in position. 1
I of the container to detachably secure the The coverhas both sides thereof constructed alike, and in View of which the arms 19 can be seated on the uper edges of the side walls of the container, so that on the application of pressure the arms 18 can be automatically sprung to latching position with respect to the sides of the trough, that is to say the cover can be mountedon the top of the trough and when pressure is applied thereto it will be snapped to. engaged or latching position. Furthermore, in lieu of removing the top lengthwise of the trough, it can be pulled off vertically in lieu of longitudinally. V 7
It is thought that the many advantages of a feed trough, in accordance with this invention, can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction can; be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What we claim is: 1. In a latchable closure for a feed trougl of that type having oppositely disposed, outwardly extending inclinedside walls, the
combination of a cover member of greater length than the length of said side walls, a depending inwardlyf inclined latching arm integral with each sideof said member and of greater length than the length of a side wall, and an outwardly'extending and downwardly inclined, lower arm integral with each bottom of the latching arm and of a length substantially the same as a sidewall of the trough and providing means for supporting the cover member on the top edge of a side wall whereby on the application of down pressure to the cover member the latching arms will be swung to frictional latching engagement with respect to the outer faces of said sidewalls. I
2. In a latchable closure for a feed trough of that "type having oppositely extending,'out wardly disposed inclined side walls, the combination of a cover member of inverted v shape in cross section, a'depending inwardly extending inclinedlatching arm integral and coextensive with each side of said member, and an outwardlyextending and down wardly inclined lower arm integral with "the bottom of each latching arm and providing -means for supporting the cover member on the top edges of said side walls whereby on .the application of pressure to the cover member the latching arms will be swung to latching engagement with respect to the outer faces of said side walls.
3. In a latchable closure fora feed trough of that type having oppositely extending, outwardly disposed inclined sidewalls, the combination of a cover member of inverted V-shape in cross section, a depending inwards ly extending inclined latching arm integral and coextensive with each side of said member, and anoutwardly extending and downwardly inclined lower arm integral with the bottom of each latching arm and providing means for supporting the cover member on the top edges of said side walls whereby on the application of pressure to the cover member the latching arms will be swung to latching engagement with respect to the outer faces of said side walls, said latching arms of greater length than the length of said 10 I In testimonywhereof, weafiix our signatures hereto.
